What instruments did king Henry VIII play?

Henry himself was not known for playing any instrument, but in his day, he would have studied music and learned all about various composers and performers. We do know that he loved music and there is some evidence that he wrote a few songs. Further, he was a great patron of the arts, hiring and supporting a number of musicians who played for him and provided entertainment at royal functions.

What language was the bible with Henry VIII?

By the Tudor period (1485-1603) it was normal for English Kings to speak English as their everyday language, and generally all governmental business was conducted in English.

The kings & ruling elite of England stopped using French on an everyday basis during the so-called "Hundred Years' War" (1337-1453) with France, mainly to differentiate themselves/ their realm from their French opponents, & to promote themselves as distinctly English rulers/ war leaders. It's no coincidence that the first great writer in a recognisable form of modern English - Geoffrey Chaucer (?1340-1400) - emerged during this period, a time when a distinct English (as opposed to Anglo-French/ Anglo-Norman, or Germanic "Old English", ie Anglo-Saxon) identity was developing fast.

So, Henry VIII's first language (his "native tongue") was English: he was raised speaking it, & ruled over an Anglophone court. He was also a fluent French speaker, & had a good working knowledge of Italian. He was also fluent in Latin & had some knowledge of Classical Greek, reflecting not only his Humanist/ Renaissance education, but also the fact that as the second son, his father, Henry VII, had intended him to have a career in the Church. Additionally, Henry could sight read music & compose scores, & played the lute & harpsichord very well.

The young Henry VIII cut a very impressive figure - handsome & athletic; powerfully built, well over six feet tall (at a time when the average male was about 5'6"); adept in the martial arts (swordsmanship, wrestling, archery, jousting etc); an excellent dancer with a rich singing voice, and able to converse meaningfully with leading scholars on history & literature, law, philosophy, politics, theology & religion. He could do this equally well in English, French & Latin, & to some extent Italian! A "perfect prince" indeed: shame he turned out to be a monstrously egomaniacal tyrant as well - the "English Stalin"!?

How did Catherine of Aragon marriage ended with King Henry?

The first wife of Henry VIII (1491 - 1547):

The Spanish princess, who had previously been married to Henry's brother Arthur, Catherine of Aragon (1485 - 1536), was unable to provide Henry with a male heir; which he desperately wanted, despite six pregnancies and only one living daughter (Mary). After Henry became enamoured of Anne Boleyn, he decided to divorce Catherine in 1533 (they had married in 1509) and eventually had their marriage annulled. Henry used the excuse that Catherine had previously been married to his brother Arthur, even though Catherine had declared herself a virgin after Arthur died, and had special dispensation to marry Henry.

Her health went into decline and she died on 7 January 1536.

Is Jane Seymour the actress a descendant of Jane Seymour the third wife of King Henry VIII?

No. First of all, she was born Joyce Penelope Wilhelmina Frankenberg. She has no English ancestry - her father was the son of immigrants from Eastern European and her mother is Dutch. And Lady Jane Seymour had a single child, a son, Edward the Sixth, who himself died at age 15. So even if her last name was Seymour rather than Frankenberg, it is not possible for her to be a descendant.

Who was Henry VIII's most beautiful wife?

Anne Boleyn

The first answer couldn't be more incorrect. Infact Katherine of Aragon was the most beautiful of Henry's wives, during her life time she was described as "the most beautiful creature in the world". Anne Boleyn however, was never considered especially beautiful; Anne was 15 years younger than Katherine, though still older than when Katherine was when Henry married her. Anne was not unattractive, but not really beautiful.

The answer is indisputable, Katherine of Aragon.

Anglican Catholic Answer!

I think you've got the wrong chap, it was Henry's son, Edward VI and his Calvinist friends who ruined the place. Henry supported a theory that went back before the Norman Conquest where authority was held by the Bishops through the Ecumenical Councils, very much as the Orthodox and traditional Anglicans do today! It has been described as Catholic without the pope!

Henry did no more and no less, with the support of the Church, than say that the ancient canons of the Councils tell us quite clearly that no bishop is permitted to interfere in another bishops see? This shocked the pope, his support was in Europe and Henry was first to declare against him!

How many years was Anne of Cleves married to Henry VIII?

Anne of Cleves married King Henry VIII of England on 6th January 1540

They were divorced on 9th July the same year.

6 months 3 days

After the death of his third wife, Jane Seymour, Henry VIII (1491 - 1547) was eventually persuaded to marry again, but this fourth wife, Anne of Cleves (1515 - 1557) was chosen via a portrait Henry had commissioned from Hans Holbein. When he saw her in the flesh, on New Year's Day 1540, he was extremely unhappy with her appearance (apparently he called her "the Flanders Mare"). Although he went ahead and married Anne on 6 January 1540, Henry refused to consummate the marriage, so eventually this was annulled 6 months later. Anne received a generous divorce settlement and remained on good terms with the king.

How old was Henry when he and catherine got engaged?

Henry didn't really have an engagement.

In 1502 Henry's brother Arthur died. Henry was made Prince of Wales and heir to the throne. Henry's father greatly wanted the alliance between England and Spain to stay via marriage. And offered Spain Henry marry Catherine of Aragon his brothers widow.

In order for Henry to be able to marry his brothers widow, a dispensation from the Pope was required to overule the impediment of affinity. Catherine swore over and over that the marriage had been unconsummated. Both parties agreed that a papal dispensation of affinity would be prudent to remove all doubt regarding the legitimacy of the marriage. Fourteen months after Arthur died Catherine found herself betrothed to his brother. In 1505, King Henry VII lost interest in an alliance with Spain and Henry declared that the betrothal had been arranged without his consent.

Diplomatic measures over the fate of the proposed marriage lingered until the death of Henry VII in 1509. At 17 years old, Henry married his brothers widow on June 11, 1509 and the two were crowned on June 24, 1509.

How old was Katherine parr when married Henry?

Her exact date of birth is not known, only that it was between 1518-24. She married Henry VIII on 28th July 1540, so the oldest she could have been is 22 and the youngest she could've been is 16.

She was married to the King for less than two years before he had her executed for treason on the grounds of adultery whilst married to the reigning monarch (in those days, this was a treasonable offence). So she may have died when she was as young as just 17 years old. She is buried in an unmarked grave in the grounds of the chapel of St.Peter ad Vincula, the official chapel of the Tower of London- the King did not even bother to attend her funeral.

When did Katherine Parr and Henry meet?

Answer Catherine was the daughter of Sir Thomas Parr, an English nobleman from Kendall in the North West of England, and his wife, Maud Green. In 1529, aged about 15, Catherine had married Edward Borough, Baron of Gainsborough, who died in 1533. They had no children. In 1534 she married John Nevill, Baron Latymer from Yorkshire in England. Baron Latymer was a frequent visitor to Henry's Court and it was probably on one of these visits that she first met the King. Baron Latymer died in March 1543 and again there were no children.
