When did Katherine Parr and Henry meet?

Answer Catherine was the daughter of Sir Thomas Parr, an English nobleman from Kendall in the North West of England, and his wife, Maud Green. In 1529, aged about 15, Catherine had married Edward Borough, Baron of Gainsborough, who died in 1533. They had no children. In 1534 she married John Nevill, Baron Latymer from Yorkshire in England. Baron Latymer was a frequent visitor to Henry's Court and it was probably on one of these visits that she first met the King. Baron Latymer died in March 1543 and again there were no children.

Why did Henry VIII marry six times?

Answer

King Henry VIII of England was born on 28th June 1491. He became King of England when his father died on 21st April 1509, and he reigned until his own death on 28th January 1547.

One of the reasons he is famous is that he married six times.

His father, King Henry VII had become King of England after defeating King Richard III at the Battle of Bosworth Field in the year 1485.

This marked the end of a long and bloody Civil War in England over who should succeed to the throne, known as The Wars of the Roses.

The last time a female had inherited the English throne was in the year 1141 when the daughter of King Henry I, Matilda became Queen. This led to a long Civil War known as "The Anarchy."

Henry VIII was keen to avoid another, similar Civil War and wanted to have a son who would be an undisputed, male heir to the throne.

This was the main reason why he married so many times.

How did Thomas Cromwell close down monasteries?

Because he wanted the money because he had fought many expensive wars and didn't have very much money left

1.Religion- when Henry was a catholic, the pope didn't believe in divorce, and of course this was a problem for Henry, so he made the church of England. He might of not liked the monks (as they were catholic) so he shut them down.

2.Economics- as Henry fought many expensive wars, he had no money left, so by shutting down the monastries, he gained lots of land and property which resulted in lots of money.

3.The monks- the monks weren't being true to their religion, they are supposed to live a solitary life on their own. However they were caught sleeping with women wearing no clothes, others had wives and children and others were even theives! So Henry had even more reason to shut them down.

Did Henry VIII have financial problems?

Yes.

Henry was bankrupt. He spent a lot of money on palaces and books and wars. He spent loads of money because he wanted to be very powerful. Henry also needed to spend money on his three children. They all needed an education.

but he did get money when he opened up his own church - "the Church of England"

however, when henry opened up the church of England he raided all the monasteries and took their riches for himself. Again he spent all of it too quickly and a lot was taken out on the same needs as before

Why did king Henry the 8th make himself head of the church because of money?

He separated England from Rome and formed the Church of England with himself as the head So he could divorce Catherine of Aragon

The Head of State in most places would be Head of the Church, but only as Chief magistrate! The Church had been slipping outside the law, ignoring whatever it didn't like. This had led to a great deal of ill feeling amongst many people and we should ask ourselves do we want the Church to be outside the law? Or should we simply ignore it?

There are plenty of spots in the world where various churches have turned away from legality and are now paying the price.

It is a lesson the English Church and King, learned 500 years ago!

By the way it is not true that Henry separated the English Church from Rome! It was Rome who took umbrage at being corrected over a blatant piece of lawlessness. The Canons of The Church say quite clearly that one bishop has no place to interfere in another bishop's see without permission! That is what the Bishop of Rome had been doing and he'd been told to stop! He has no authority other than what the Catholic Church gives him.

What did Henry VIII do with money?

Henry VIII, like monarchs before and after him, was personally responsible for most of the expenses we would nowadays expect to be paid by "the government". He had to maintain his palaces, the civil service, and the military out of his private pocket. There was no clear line between what were Henry's expenses and what were England's expenses. The dissolution of the monasteries made Henry very rich but a lot of this money was paid out to courtiers and other powerful people in the country to help with the political fallout of the Reformation. Even more was frittered away in the wars against France which characterized the last years of his reign. Henry was, of course, fond of pomp and finery to a much greater extent than his parsimonious father, but this was not where the bulk of his great wealth went.

Did Catherine Howard have any children?

No, Catherine Howard did not have any children. She was the fifth wife of Henry VIII and two years after the marriage she was beheaded. It was Catherine of Aragon who had a daughter, the future Mary I.

Why did Henry VIII dissolve the monasteries?

Answer

Henry VII needed money urgently which he was not getting right now as his income was around 110,000 he thought of ways that he could make money. He later decided that he would break away from the Catholic Church and make the Protestant Church. But Henry knew it would be hard as it was very difficult for kings to control the church. The church was very powerful. It could make people scared and tell them they're going to hell.

As well as getting money by breaking away from the church he also had another reason, he had a quarrel with pope Gregory because Henry wanted a divorce from Catherine of Aragon since she could not produce a male heir since she was too old and at that time they did not believe in divorce so his pledge was refused by pope Gregory.
