Why did China not become a highly industrialized country?
Due to internal conflicts, and during the decline of the dynastic cycle England forced trade. Since the British had nothing to trade with , they used Opium from Persia grown in India to sell to the Chinese. The Chinese became over addicted to the drug. Although the government tried to stop the trade, he was to weak. This resulted in the Opium wars, which led to an unequal treaty with the British. China became a British colony making manufacturing products for them. China wasn't making no new techological innovations and its isolation from the world is another cause.

In 1949, the communist party won the war and took control of China, causing a mass exodus of those who could not or would not live under the government of Mao Zedong. Hong Kong was still under British influence with a capitalist society. Those institutions remain dominant well after Hong Kong's return to Chinese rule in 1997.

Why did the Manchu dynasty fail?
The Manchu dynasty was met with growing resentment from the Chinese population. This population understood that China was not the world power when the British arrived with a relatively small amount of troops and defeated them easily. The global perception of China changed after the Opium Wars; after these wars, China was seen as an "easy target."
The Manchu Dynasty couldn't prevent the forces of reform from overtaking it.
The Qin Dynasty
Why did peasants align with Chinese communists?
Life could only get better. It gave some relief from the grinding poverty they suffered. It is obvious to any student of history and observer of human nature that if the ruling group treads on people hard enough they will finally revolt because they were given no choice. all revolutions begin that way. Communist uprisings like the Chinese example are no different. Whatever you think of communism or revolutions they would not have occured in the first place if the populace had been well treated. Your question is a good example of how politically naive and downtrodden peasants will align themselves to a group that promises better.
How do you write ilove you in Chinese?
What if china never became communist?
If the Bolsheviks lost the revolution and Russia remained a republic then Russia would not have pulled out of the war. The Republic's ideology was socialism, communism is the radical form of socialism much like fascism is the extreme form of nationalism. If Russia became a socialist state then the Russians would have not suffered so much and wealth would be more equally distributed. Russian Republic would be the official name of the nation. The Eastern Front would still have been more active had Russia remained in the war. By this point Russia would have been able to defeat Germany as well as Austria-Hungary. If the US entered the war then it would be even more advantageous for the allies and the Central Powers would have been crushed totally. Now onto the Great Depression, it would have not affected Russia as they are not workers and laborers right? Well there is always a catch. Russia would have still gone into the depression but not as bad as any nation. Robust economic growth and high worker productivity could help boost the economy. Onto WW2 Russia would have been prepared as well. Russia would be allied with Britain and France as they are not communist. In our timeline the USSR proposed a military alliance with Britain and France against Nazi Germany which was rejected. Since Russia is more Democratic and not radically socialist then the alliance would have been agreed. So if Hitler attempted to invade Russia, there would not be so much casualties for the Russians as they would be better organized. So once again Russia would ally with the allied powers. Let's say that Russia defeats Germany with Britain and then joins the USA in the Pacific. its hard to tell if the Cold War would happen as it was not just a conflict of ideology but also control over resources. Even if Russia is democratic and socialist instead, the US and Russia would still probably compete in the Space Race and so on. Would China become communist? Hard to say. Maybe since Communism failed then maybe Socialism would be adopted instead by China, Korea and Vietnam. Into the 21st century its difficult to know how exactly the world would be but what I can say is that the Cold War would not have been so tense as in this timeline there is an absence of ideological radicalness (Communism).
Is the People's Republic of China a democratic country?
NO. PR China is a Communist Dictatorship. Specifically, it is a LENINIST COMMUNIST STATE. Leninist Communism is the political theory that a single party called the Communist Party rules the government and governs all affairs as opposed to individual politicians. Although the single party in a Leninist Communist State is the Communist Party, the party need not practice Communist political theory. In both China and Vietnam, there is a state-directed, right-wing economic and political theory.

Although I would advise anyone reading this to go to an official source for this question.

What was the one child policy in China?
China's one child policy was created by Deng Xiaoping in 1979 because of the large population; 300 million people were born over 20 years. China knew it had to do something to slow population growth. People prefer to have males rather than females since males earn more money, females babies are killed, either that or they are given up for adoption. Recently, China had a horrible earthquake. All the families that lost their children will be allowed to have another baby but parents over 60 years of age that lost their child will be given $150 from the Chinese Government to make up for it because they will not be allowed to have another child. Couples that adopt a child or baby orphaned by the earthquake, that have not already given birth to their own child, will also be allowed to have a second child by natural birth. Those couples over 50 years of age who lost their only child to the earthquake would also be paid 600 Yuan ($89). Couples that already have a child that get pregnant will be forced to get an abortion whether they want to or not. If a woman gets pregnant with twins then she may keep both the babies just as long as she has enough money to look after both the children.

Why is the writing system considered the glue of Chinese society?
The writing system is considered to be the glue in Chinese society because the traditional Chinese culture and values were in the "sacred script" and this bound society together. Those who were literate were provided with financial benefits and prestige and took their responsibility of preserving the culture very seriously. The Communist regime and the advent of the computer, among other factors, have threatened to undo this bond.

Should Taiwan be Returned to China?
From China's perspective, there is only one China in the world. Taiwan has been a part of China for hundreds of years. They speak the same language, celebrate the same festivals, and have almost the same culture.
The present situation of separation between Taiwan and China mainland is the result of Civil War of China(or Liberation War of China 1946-1950). The former government of China, the KMT party government, fled to Taiwan island because of the total defeat in the mainland. Meanwhile, Communist China had no ability to cross the strait to reunite Taiwan island at that time. In China's view, the problem of Taiwan and China not already being reunited is due to interference from the U.S. government. In 1949, the Chinese government announced that Taiwan is a province of China. Since then, all the countries which want to establish a foreign relationship with PRC must recognize that Taiwan's belonging to China. The UN also recognizes that Taiwan belongs to China. In Taiwan's society today, DPP politicians who are absolute supporters of Taiwan's independence are in control, but a number of Taiwanses people believe there is only one China and that Taiwan is part of it. For economic reasons, as well as avoiding war, Taiwan should not be independent. Only the reunification of Taiwan with China will give Taiwan a more broader future. It is advantagous to mainland China that reunification with Taiwan take place because the Taiwanese people speak standard Chinese and know deeply about China. Mastering Chinese will be rather important in the future. So Taiwan maintaining a close relationship with mainland China will be the best what it can be. It isn't that the people or government of Taiwan see no cultural connection between the two countries; it's just that people are reluctant to give up their rights and submit to the rule of an autocratic government.
Also, the threat of force has been made by China, and this certainly doesn't make the mainland seem any more appealing. (Taiwan has also put on military displays on their coast, so both countries are guilty of provoking the other.)
As for the question of whether China has any right to claim Taiwan as its own, I've always thought that the claim made by China is flawed: Taiwan was a part of China in imperial times, and it was part of the Republic of China, but it was never a part of the People's Republic of China. The People's Republic was created by the people's struggle against the KMT, and that struggle never took place in Taiwan. A Communist government is, by definition, supposed to have been chosen by the people, not forced upon them by the Communist government of a neighboring region. For this reason, it seems illogical to suggest that just because it was a part of China's former incarnations, Taiwan should be considered a part of this most recent one. (The same could be said of Tibet.)
