You have a 1978 trans are you just had the motor built 400 and you got it in the car and was filling up the fluids and it is steaming out the left head gasket how do you change it and what do you need?

To replace the Head Gasket you will need: Head Gasket Water pump gasket Intake Gaskets Hi-temp RTV to seal the valley pan Torque wrench Gasket scraper This will be long but hang on!! Ensure that the engine is at TDC. This will make setting the timing much easier later on. Step one: Remove the plug wires, vaccuum lines, electrical wires, radiator hoses, heater hoses, throttle cable, trans kickdown cable (if equipped), water temp gauge, from the intake and carb. Also remove the valve covers BE SURE TO LABEL WHERE EVERYTHING GOES!!!!! Step two: Remove the header/manifold bolts, the gasket, and the bottom header/manifold bolts (those attaching the exhaust to the header/manifold), remove the plugs from the head (only to ensure you don't break them, and then move the header/manifolds out of the way as much as possible (no need to pull them out) Step Three: Remove the bolts that secure the intake to the heads, as well as the bolts that secure the water pump to the eninge (there are also two bolts that attach to the water pan) remove the water pump, and then the intake. (they are 7/16"), then double check to ensure all electrical connectors, throttle cable, vaccuum lines etc. are removed from the carb and intake. Then remove the intake, you may have to pry ever so slightly in order to get it loose. Step Four: You should now be able to remove the two bolts securing the valley pan (1/2" or 9/16" usually). you will have to carefully pry it loose, as the valley pan is probably sealed with RTV. NOTE: ENSURE THAT YOU DO NOT DROP ANYTHING DOWN INTO THE OIL PAN AFTER YOU REMOVE THE VALLEY PAN!!!! Step Five: Now loosen the nuts that hold the rocker arms down. These bolts only need to be loosend enough to allow you to remove the pushrods. Once all rocker arms are loosend then remove the pushrods, make sure that you remember the order in which they were removed. Step Six: Now you are ready to remove the head. Loosen and remove the bolts holding the head to the block, NOTE: the bolts vary in length, make sure that you remember where they go!. With all the bolts removed pry up on the corner of the head to remove it. When you remove the head, there will be antifreeze that will leak everywhere. also note the location of the two plastic keepers on the gasket Step Seven: Clean the heads. Use a gasket scraper to remove any of the old gasket. be careful not to gouge the head, just remove the gasket. Do the same for the engine block. Also clean up the mess left over from removing the head, to include removing all of the old gaket material Step Eight: Reassembly. With everything cleaned up, place the new gasket on the engine block, make sure that you insert the plastic keepers as well. Then set the head back on the engine, and reinsert the bolts. Follow the recommended steps to torque the head bolts. Reinsert the push rods, and tighten the rocker arm bolts to specs. Apply RTV to the valleypan, and allow it to become takcy before setting it back on the engine, and tightening the bolts. Next install the intake and gaskets, as well as the exhaust manifolds (beware the exhaust manifolds can be a pain to install). Reinstall the water pump as well. Tighten all bolts, reconnect the wires and vaccuum lines, and reinstall the valve covers. Step Nine: Setting the timing. The engine should already be at TDC. Reinstall the distributor and note the location of the rotor. The nearest point on the cap will be #1. From there install the rest of the plug wires and then the cap. Step Ten: Start the enigne, and look for leaks, be prepared to shut off the engine just in case. Finally adjust the timing, and idle speed, and you should be good to go!!!

How do you replace the AC belt on a 1997 Honda Civic ex?

Honda civic A/C belt replacement

If it is the 1.6L 4cyl that is on the 1998 civic cx then this is what I did.

1. jack up car and support it with jack stands, lower the jack so that the car rest on the stands

2. take off the top pulley that the power steering belt goes around, so you have a clear view of the pulleys, right next to the motor you will see a small pulley-idler tension pulley,i think that is what it is called, loosen the screw in the center of the pulley, next screw down on the screw next to the motor so that the pulley goes down,

3. now jack up the motor so that the weight is just off of the motor mount and unscrew the motor mount, lower the jack just enough to make clearance for the top of the belt and slide it over the motor mount,

4. put the screws back into the motor mount and tighten,

5. put the belt over the pulleys and screw the pulley back up to tighten the belt then tighten the screw in the middle of that pulley back.

6. now put the power steering pump back on and put the belt back on and retighten the power steering pump using a half inch rachet or pull bar to tighten the belt.

Who gets the seat belt ticket?

Depending on where you live, in most states (possibly all) any person(s) above the age of 16 whom aren't wearing the seatbelt get the ticket, not the driver. If the person who is without seatbelt is under the age of 16, then the driver gets the ticket.

How do you replace the headlight bulb located on a 1998 Honda Civic?

I have a '98 civic LX and to change the driver side headlight bulb squeeze and remove the electrical connection on the back of the bulb. Remove the rubber cover. To aid in access pull the power steering reservior up out of its holder. Don't disconnect any lines. Push down on the locking clip and remove the bulb. Installation is reverse of removal. Hopes this helps.

Answer

I had the same problem. Here is the way to do it:

The bulb is covered by a rubber boot. You can't remove the rubber boot without removing the plug from the bulb. The trick is that to remove the plug, you have to reach around each of the horizontal edges of the plug and squeeze. There are little tabs there that lock the plug into the prongs of the bulb. The rubber boot makes pressing the tabs in very tricky (at least if your fingers are as big as mine), but it can be done. Once the plug is removed, pull off the rubber boot, nothing is holding it on except friction. Then you will see the bulb is held in by a wire bracket that is attached tot he headlight assembly by a Philips head screw. You do not need to remove the screw. On the opposite side from the screw is the end of the wire with a loop. Push this in and then up and the wire will swing away. Now the bulb is free. Make sure not to touch the glass part of the new bulb with your fingers. Just reverse this process to reinstall. Make sure to put the rubber boot back on with the holes pointing down.

The driver's side is much easier than the passenger side which is partially blocked by the air filter housing.

OK-but undoing the wire is a bit challenging sometimes, you have to press hard on the sides of the wire clip by inserting your fingers in between the clip and the rubber seal (note the headlight will feel loose).

Answer

This is the same as for changing the headlight on a 1997 Honda Civic.

Change the headlight 97 civic Change the headlight 98 civic Change the headlight 1997 civic Change the headlight 1998 civic headlamp head light lamp

Answer

Great stuff. This REALLY helped but led me add a couple of things.

1. I definitely recommend removing the bumper the first time you replace bulbs.

After you've done it this way you will likely be able to do it later without removing the bumper.

You can find that article by searching: "How do you change both headlights on a 1997 Honda Civic?"

2. Touching the glass part of the new bulb transfers oils from your hand that will drastically reduce the longevity of the bulb.

3. Removing the electrical plug to the lamp requires simultaneous squeezing of the two VERTICAL sides, not the horizontal top and bottom.

4. It took me about an hour my first time.

5. Make sure you research the type of bulb your car will accept.

I felt great after doing it and I couldn't have done it without these articles.

Thanks!

Pictures are helpful.

The clip shown below is blown up a little and looks funny.

Your are trying to push on a small clip about .25" square. just at the front of the wire harness.

Squeeze your fingers in to this position on either side and put more pressure into squeezing the tabs than pulling and the ting will pop right off.

Put your fingers on either side of the harness shown below.

Push the metal clip in and bring it up then pull it out toward the back of the car.

How hard is an engine swap olds 3800 series 2?

Answer

very...the engine and trans come out together through the bottom of the car with the sub-frame and control arms, then you separate the engine from trans and put back together, about 14 hours with the right tools and a lift

It was easy for me and my mechanic. We wanted to change the 3.8 series 2 engine with the LSS's supercharger 3.8 series 2 engine. A very excellent build.

At how many miles should you change a 2002 Saturn timing chain?

Saturn does not recommend changing the timing chain at any mileage. If fact I owned a 96 SL2 that went 240,000 miles and never had the timing chain changed. When I later pulled the engine apart I found the timing chain to still be very tight and it showed no signs of ware. Also read this... "It needs to be changed if it has excessive slack in it. Usually this is indicated by a noise that can be heard at idle and felt in the valve cover. It usually doesn't go away with increased speed. If you replace the chain, I'd also recommend changing the tensioner."

Are 19560 R14 tires interchangeable for 20560 R15 tires?

No, the wheel sizes are different. Other than that the two tires are only 10 cm difference in height so no real ride difference will be noticed.

How do you stop mice from entering your Honda Civic?

One of the ways mice get into Honda Civics (and other cars) is around the firewall between the engine and passenger compartment. Check to make sure all the rubber grommets around wiring are in place and secure. Check also for missing grommets. Mice can squeeze through a hole as small as nickel, believe it or not. They will initially search for warm areas which usually means the engine compartment. Once there, they will seek additional areas of comfort.

How do you diagnose the trouble codes 1361 - 1362 on a 2002 Honda Civic EX?

This happened to me. Turns out my Top Dead Center (TDC) sensor was bad. Yours is too. This sensor in located behind the timing chain cover on my 2001 civic. You have to take the cover off to get to it. Honda dealer wanted $360 in labor to change the sensor. Because it was in the same the location Honda would have changed my timing chain for no extra labor charge. So I went to the Honda dealer and got the sensor ($56) and went to the auto parts store and got a timing chain, water pump, and new belts. Local mechanic changed all these parts for $160 in labor (others wanted $230). $130 for the sensor and timing chain and $30 more for the pump. I probably could have hacked that timing chain cover off myself but that is what thought would happen. A hack job. And it was time for a new chain anyway. 92 plus degrees outside and the civic is running fine. Praise Jesus from whom all blessing come.

What is the spark plug gap on a 1992 Honda Accord dx?

The spark plug gap on a 1992 Honda Accord (DX,LX,EX) is 1.0 - 1.1mm I verified this information today (01-09-2008) for my NGK ZFR6F-11 spark plugs at a Murray's Auto Parts store.

Cost of timing belt replacement cost on a Honda Civic EX 1999?

It's about 2.5 hrs of labor and the belt is about $40. Depending on labor rates in your area, you're looking at about $300. They will also try to talk you into replacing the water pump at the same time, which is not a bad idea since 90% of the labor is already paid for. A new water pump runs around $100.

IMO, since the labor cost is most of this expense, make sure these inexpensive parts are also replaced; oil seals to avoid future leaks, water pump which won't last much longer anyway, drive belts which are also due to change out, new antifreeze. This will also drive up the cost of the labor and the parts cost. Honda cars will go for a long time if the repair schedule is followed.

What could cause a misfire if the ecu does not throw a code?

Your engine can misfire and a code will not show if:

1 your could be arcing if they are laying across each other

2 the wires are arcing against the engine or other metal object

3 one of your spark plugs is fouled and is not firing the cylinder

4 one of your plug wires doesnt have a good connection with plug or distributor

5 possibly a crack in the distributor cap

6 possibly faulty rotor within distributor cap

Is it okay to still drive a car when the struts need to be replaced?

The primary purpose of struts and shocks is to "dampen" the unsprung weight of the wheel assembly to prevent bounce. In other words, shocks and struts stop the wheels from bouncing when you hit a bump.

Without shocks or struts, a wheel would bounce like a basketball when you hit a bump, and the wheel wouldn't be in contact with the road very much of the time. That makes the vehicle unstable and difficult to control especially when you're going much over 15 MPH.

As opposed to shocks, struts also include suspension springs and bushings, so it depends on which part of a strut is going bad. If the springs are getting weak and the vehicle is "sagging", that's probably not too terribly unsafe, just an annoyance. If the bushings are shot, don't drive it.

In my opinion, it's not a good idea to drive without good struts, but that has to be your decision.

What size of speaker goes in rear?

look at the speaker it will tell you what size it is

You don't need to cut the wires at all, I just got mine installed in 5 minutes with the adapter speaker plug, you can get them from Amazon or eBay for 16 bucks. You save a lot of time and you don't mess up the wire system of your car with the black tape and stuff.

How long does it take to replace a clutch in a 1997 Honda?

I used to do this to my Honda's It requires that you pull the front wheels. pull the tranny replace the clutch and throughout bearing. Then put it all back together It usually took me 2 days. I imagine a good mechanic can do it in about a 1/2 day. I always did it the hard way (At Home.)

Can you put a 96' civic front end on a 93' civic?

you can put the plastic pices on it but now the under workings like the front drive train will not work With minor mods its definitely do-able. CORRECT ANSWER this is how you do it. you need to buy a list of parts. front radiator support, headlights, fenders, hood and front bumper for a 96 civic. then you removed (by chizling) the stock radiator support and weld the 96 radiator support on. next you must cut the fenders in half, both the 93 and the 96 fenders. then you weld the front part of the 96 fender on the rear part of the 93 fender, fiberglass and bondo smooth. then you can install all the parts on there. you can use this method do also put 94-00 acura integra front end on your civic. how do i know, ive done it.
