A medical bill you owe can it affect your tax refund?
Yes, as you can't claim it as an expense unless it has been paid, therefore it can't be added to a deduction against income, which will effect anyone's refund.
Cancer isn't like bacteria. Cancer occurs when your normal cells mutate or change. Normally, when this happens, your body detects the change and destroys the changed cell. Cancer occurs when your body is unable to detect the cell has changed, and cellular reproduction occurs, thus the cancer grows. So when a doctor diagnoses cancer, usually they have to perform a biopsy to be certain (and even then it's not usually 100% -- malformed cells can be mistaken for malignant cells, albeit rarely). If the doctor sees a sore in your mouth, and knows you have a history of oral cancer, they can leap to a conclusion and assume it's cancer. And of course they can be wrong. Finally, there are cases of spontaneous remission, where the cancer, for no known reason, just stops. These are very rare, but they do occur. They may be mistaken about it NOT being cancer too. With cancer especially, I always warn people to get more than one opinon from different medical practices (not just from another doctor in the same practice). In fact, I think MANY opinions are wise. I strongly advise you to do this as well. Good luck!

Why is it important to keep a hospital ward clean?
It is important to keep hospitals clean because otherwise diseases like MRSA and Norovirus could spread around the hospital. This is bad in a hospital because for a very ill patient a small thing like a cold could make them even more ill and it may even kill them.

Why was orthopedic surgery called Orthopedic?
Ortho is from the Greek, orthos, meaning straight. Pedic comes from the Greek pais, meaning child. It's the same root as pediatrics.
So, ortho-pedic could be translated as "straight child". Orthopedics is the specialty of straightening (or fixing) disorders of the structure of the body, which in the earliest days of the specialty tended to be congenital defects of children.

Can you be sued for hospital bills of a parent 13 years after there death in ny?
That is well beyond the statute of limitations on debt. However, thare are other factors involved. Any contact that indicated "We'll take care of it" or "Yes, we know" can be construed as starting the time period over again. Typically the estate should have resolved the debts, including the medical bills of the deceased. If a child has co-signed any paperwork regarding medical procedures, they may be held liable.
