Can miracle whip be substituted for mayonnaise in cooking?
You could use Miracle Whip instead of mayonnaise in a cake recipe, but, Miracle Whip has less fat then regular mayonnaise and it also has added spices such as garlic and paprika. When you use plain mayonnaise you're getting more fat that contributes to the moistness and mouth-feel of the cake. You also aren't getting the added spices with plain mayonnaise that can cause some undesirable results with the taste of the cake.

Can you substitute dark Karo syrup for white Karo syrup?
Molasses has a much, much stronger flavour than Karo (Dark Karo, that is, light Karo has a completely different flavour) but other than the taste of the final product, it should not effect the recipe much. Because of the flavour difference, though, I would cut the amount used by at least half, if not more, if I thought the recipe would still be OK.

Can you substitute apple sauce for oil butter or margarine in a recipe?
It's might be better to substitute oils, butter and margarine with applesauce in oil-based baked goods like muffins and breads, or moist cakes. Substitute applesauce one for one with the oil, and it helps to add in 2 tablespoons vegetable oil. They say a little oil goes a long way in contributing to a better taste and texture. I've done this a few times with a zucchini bread recipe that calls for 1/2 cup of oil. I use 1/4 cup oil and 1/4 cup applesauce and the bread tastes great.

How much does 1 cayenne pepper equal in dried cayenne pepper?
Well, using the Scoville rating (heat index) of one tablespoon of each type, it would be approximately as follows:
1 tablespoon of Jalapeno = 2500-5000 heat units
1 tablespoon of Cayenne = 30000-50000 heat units
So a tablespoon of Cayenne is approximately 8-10 times hotter than the same amount of Jalapeno pepper. Since a tablespoon is equal to three teaspoons, one third of a teaspoon of Cayenne would be pretty close.
It's not a unit of measure. It's a kind of thing. In a recipe, lemon zest or orange zest is the thin outermost part of the rind. When grated into fine bits, it is used as flavoring.
In cooking, the zest is the thin outer peel of a citrus fruit, obtained by grating the peel of the fruit until one sees the white of the fruit. In a lemon, it's about a tablespoon. In an orange, it's about 3 tablespoon.
How does one convert dry mustard to prepared mustard?
Mustard, Dry Substitute. 1 tablespoon prepared mustard can be substituted for 1 teaspoon dry mustard. If you want to make dry mustard into prepared mustard, add cider vinegar a little at a time and depending on the amount of dry mustard you have. This does not create the kind of prepared mustard that French's sells. This mustard is more like those served with Asian foods and is pretty hot.

Can you use condensed milk instead of cream?
Yes you can! If you're like me and leave your condensed milk in the pantry at room temperature, then I would suggest chilling it in the freezer for at least 20 minutes beforehand (chilling the bowl is also a good idea). Condensed milk is also a great choice because it has less cholesterol than regular whipping cream.

Water and acetic acid have different freezing points. This will allow the acetic acid to evaporate and will change the taste of the thawed product. Can one freeze Dijon mustard? Yes, it will freeze. Should one freeze Dijon mustard? No, freezing will alter the taste.
How many tablespoons of bottled lemon juice is equal to one medium lemon?
An eighth of a tablespoon of 400 GPL Lime Juice Concentrate when added to 7/8th of a tablespoon of water will equal 1 tablespoon of fresh Lime Juice. Of course, fresh Lime Juice will taste better as the concentrate goes through an evaporation process which hinders the volatile top notes due to heating. Normal fresh Lime Juice is 50-55 GPL (Grams per Liter of Citric Acid) so the reconstitution rate is 1 part concentrate (400 GPL) and 7 parts water.
