I think the question should be, "What hope did the slaves have on being set free?" The answer is, most had no hope in the 1600-1800's. If you were born or sold into slavery, it was pretty much the end of all hope. Some thought of escaping the Northern states, which had no slaves, but most were captured. If you were running away to freedom, it was a risky job. May men were willing to go without sleep just to find the slave. But, during the Civil War, a spark of hope shone through. And when Abe linclon issued the Emancipation Proclemation, hope was once again restored. Although that abolished slavery, most white people were still racist against them.

The 'Spanish Flu' epidemic of 1918, the name came from the early high mortality rate in Spain. Long term abuse can lead to severe malnutrition and there is a host of consequences from that. When one abuses alcohol long term it can sometimes lead to an unsavory lifestyle which can allow other diseases to manifest like hepatitis and high blood pressure.

Don't forget the changes in a persons emotional, mental and spiritual state. But those are not "physical" affects.......

just in the united states alone an average of 20,000 fatalities a year are alchol related most crashes are earlie morning bar closing time i recently took a class on this this should tell Americans not to drink and drive in one year more people have died from alchol than soldiers have lost their live in Iraq in over 5 years i relly wish Americans would take drinking and driving seriously.
