What did the slaves hope to be set free?
I think the question should be, "What hope did the slaves have on being set free?" The answer is, most had no hope in the 1600-1800's. If you were born or sold into slavery, it was pretty much the end of all hope. Some thought of escaping the Northern states, which had no slaves, but most were captured. If you were running away to freedom, it was a risky job. May men were willing to go without sleep just to find the slave. But, during the Civil War, a spark of hope shone through. And when Abe linclon issued the Emancipation Proclemation, hope was once again restored. Although that abolished slavery, most white people were still racist against them.

The 'Spanish Flu' epidemic of 1918, the name came from the early high mortality rate in Spain. The outbreak began in the middle east in early spring and quickly spread along the battle lines of Europe (WWI was in progress) through the military camps and civilian population. Each nation involved in the war went to great lengths to conceal the diseases effects on their population, even though the other countries were dealing with exactly the same situation. This gave the outbreak even more power. As the war ended, the soldiers returning home brought the flu home to North America in large numbers. This flu was very sneaky, it started with a few days of fever, followed by death. The outbreak abruptly ended in 1919 and disappeared leaving an estimated 70 million dead worldwide.
There are many! Liver, pancreas, stomach, esophagus, intestines, brain are all affected negatively by long term alcohol abuse. Cirrhosis of the liver comes after long term abuse. Pancreatitis and esophageal bleeds can occur too. Diabetes is not uncommon in long term alcohol abuse patients. Many who abuse alcohol long term can have withdrawal symptoms that can include the "shakes" or DT's (Delerium Tremens) and seizures.
Long term abuse can lead to severe malnutrition and there is a host of consequences from that. When one abuses alcohol long term it can sometimes lead to an unsavory lifestyle which can allow other diseases to manifest like hepatitis and high blood pressure.

Fashion didn't originate at once. It evolved over the years. If we look back at time to the earliest days, human beings dressed themselves in leaves and tree barks. After a certain period, man realised that clothes can be made out of cotton and various other fabrics. At that time, newer fabrics were fashionable. Later, the fabrics were designed to look better and more flaunting. That point defined haute couture. Ideas flooded the fashion industry as pantsuits for women, plaits for men and varied textures became extremely popular. Now, fashion is all about being different and futuristic, but at the same time, comfortable, wearable and affordable.
The origins of yellow fever most likely lie in Africa. It is thought that the virus originated in East or Central Africa and spread from there to West Africa.
Many people believe that it initially was a fairly harmless virus that lived in monkeys and mosquitoes and it was only the arrival of Europeans at the dawn of the slave trade that caused the virus to jump into humans and thus spread to other continents.

It was thin and lightweight, slightly thicker than aluminum foil that was practically indestructable and came with strange writing on it.
Why do Mexicans make fun of Americans?
As new immigrants have entered the US, the people already living here have always been unwelcoming to them. The Irish faced discrimination in the 1800's the Italians and eastern Europeans in the early 1900's; the Jews into the 1930's, etc. Once the groups assimilated the ethnic discrimination died down. The main difference with previous immigration and Mexicans is the fact that they have retained their native language and to an extent culture for a longer period of time.
This leads to the xenophobic reactions from many Americans.
A bit more:
The above answer tends to lump all Americans into one big racist group. I am not racist to those of Mexican heritage, or to those of any heritage or race. And I know my family and friends feel the same way. To put all Americans in the same group with those who are racist is not accurate, nor is it fair.
I detest racism, bigotry, and prejudice in any form, and will not tolerate it from anyone. All people, no matter what race, religion, sexual orientation, nationality, etc. are equal. So I, and many, many other Americans, are not in that group, and don't want it to be said that we are.
As to the Americans who are racist towards Mexicans, I don't think it's the race they have a problem with, but more the illegal Mexican immigrants than the race itself.
But, sadly, there are some who are prejudiced against all other races, nationalities, and religions. And there simply is no good reason for it.

What was the purpose of the student unrest in the 1960's?
In the US, student unrest mostly occurred after Johnson escalated the Vietnam War. The underlying cause of the unrest was mostly due to the draft, I think, but there was some protest against the war itself and how it was being conducted. There were concerns about the toxic effects of agent orange, a defoliant widely used to kill vegetation to make aerial surveillance and bombing easier. There also were some shocking incidents of American brutality against civilians that arroused protests.
