Did the West invade Iraq to gain access to oil reserves?
Yes why not? The first answer was wrong. Bush went into Iraq to get oil and he totally lied about Saddam having Weapons of Mass Destruction. He thought that if we (USA) could control Iraq's oil supply, we could control all the oil supply in the middle east and, in the words of Dick Cheney, 'Nobody will ever mess with us anymore!' All we would have to do is 'alter' Iraq's form of government by taking out their long time leader, have them pass laws by us and everything else all in exchange for oil. We did the same thing to Cuba. Now gas is really expensive because we barely have gas. Just because we went into Iraq to get oil doesn't mean that we would necessarily get oil. We failed to get oil because it was obviously harder than we thought to obtain oil.
I'm hoping whoever answered this was joking, otherwise they are speaking out of their @ss. The reason "oil" was such an issue with the Iraq war was because the media made it so. Never was there a statement made that oil was the reason, nor was there ever an attempt to retrieve oil because it wasn't the original intent. I literally lol'd at the statement "We failed to get oil because it was obviously harder than we thought to obtain oil". We (the US) have the premier equipment and technology in obtaining oil. If anyone were to pull oil out of anywhere, it would be us. This leads me to believe this poster was joking because nobody could be that stupid.
Sadaam was a ruthless dictator who continuously slaughtered the Kurds and slaughtered his own people.
The Iraq situation is almost identical to the situation Obama is in with Libya.
Obama/Libya war & Bush/Iraq war similarities:
-Our President wants to rid a ruthless dictator slaughtering their civilians
-Our president sends military and drops air strikes and bombs on the country.
The only difference is that the media is portraying the Libya situation as a means of Obama keeping peace, whereas the same could be said for Bush. Why the difference? Because the media (other than FOX) has loyalty to the democratic party (Anyone who argues that is clearly insane).
Moral of the story: When you hear something the media (including FOX) tells you, do some research because you are 9 times out of 10 hearing a biased story filled with half-truths.
All it takes is for some hobo off the street to say "Bush eats human brains" and any journalist could write an entire article of how Bush eats human brains because "a source" told them so.

Who were the enemies in the Vietnam war?
Well, that depends what side you are on. The war was between the capitalist U.S.-backed South Vietnam and the communistist U.S.S.R.-backed North Vietnam. The war was won by the North Vietnamese.
The cold war ended; there was no nation capable of preventing the US...as the US was the most powerful nation in the world in 1991. With no Soviet Union to prevent operations, with the life blood of the world in the balance (oil), the US requested approval...the UN saw no reason not to agree to it; no one had anything to lose by the decision...except for Iraq.
There was 155,000 and now in 2011 its down to about 50,000

What was the reason Saddam Hussein started the gulf war?
The US did not start the war in the Persian Gulf; border disputes started the Iran-Iraq War in 1980-1988.
In the minds of many, the reason the United States went to war with Iraq is still not clear. The historical account goes like this:
Saudi Arabia had been asking the US for a long time to leave their country, but the U.S. did not leave. That made one particular man named Osama bin Laden angry and he hatched several terrorist attack plans against the U.S, the most devastating being the attack on the World Trade Centers and the Pentagon. Then he went into hiding. President Bush vowed to hunt down bin Laden, and the U.S. declared war on Iraq. The reason given to the public was originally that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction; however, no weapons were found. The public was later told that the U.S. Was in Iraq to instill democracy.
Unfortunately, not finding any weapons of mass destruction left doubts in many people's minds about the "real" reasons the U.S. went to war with Iraq. It also came to light that bin Laden was trained by the C.I.A and that the bin Ladens were visitors to the White House on several occasions, In addition, during the time when all planes were grounded on 911, it was alleged that President Bush flew bin Laden's brother out of the U.S. Since 911, there have also been doubts raised about the events that occurred that day and whether bin Laden was really responsible for it, along with allegations that the U.S. Made billions of dollars from the sale of weapons to Iraq.
So, there is the historical account, but in many people's minds we may never know the real reasons the U.S. went to war with Iraq.

What countries were involved in Desert Storm?

Counting Iraq, at least 20 nations were involved.
The Cold War is the name of the many conflicts and international disputes that took place in the latter half of the 20th century. The Cold War includes the Vietnam War, the Yom Kippur War, the Six Day War, the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, the Iranian Embassy Siege, the Korean War, and the Cuban Missile Crisis. The Cold War was mainly between the United States and the Soviet Union, who both had large stocks of nuclear weapons. The Cold War dissolved around 1991, when the Soviet Union collapsed.
What would happen if you started a nuclear war with Iraq?
Every living organism on this earth would get destroyed in the cataclysmic events of a Nuclear War (WW3) which would leave the scorched earths land left in radiation and devastation:
Interestingly, this is linked to most religions and cultures that believe that is the day the earth ends or and some people may say it is apocalypse day.
How many us soldiers have committed suicide since returning from war?
417,000. Although that is of course a very large number, as a percentage of total US military in the field it means a death rate of no more than 2.5%. Even among the Marines the death rate was 'only' 3.6%. Part of the reason for this is that many soldiers served in support units that rarely came under fire, if at all. The same went for the British, who had a death rate of 5.2%.
Among Russian, German and Japanese soldiers the death rate was between 25 and 30% of troops in the field. One of the reasons for this difference is the style of fighting: Russians always charged head-on, regardless of opposition while US infantry usually got artillery or air support to clean up resistance when it was encountered. Japanese and German troops lost many men because of orders to stand and fight, even in hopeless positions.
Yes, Iraqis can vote, infact they just held a general election around a month ago.
What countries does Iraq share a border with?
Iraq is in a relationship with the UK. This has become a relationship involving domestic abuse over the past 20 years. I'm pretty sure they will split up soon because England has enough money to get the divorce. Iraq has the kid though, Oil.
There is no single "war in the Middle East". There are numerous Middle East Conflicts. All of them ended or will end when one of three criteria are met:
(1) One side is victorious and has completely eliminated all opposition. An example of this is the Turkish War of Independence where the Ottoman Elite were completely eradicated by the Young Turks and the Greek Forces were evicted from Anatolia.
(2) One side is removed from conflict by a third party. An example of this is the Iran-Iraq War. The fighting was ended by ceasefire in 1988 without a true victor, but the overthrow of the Iraqi State by the USA in 2003 allowed the new Iraqi State to make peace with Iran and re-establish diplomatic ties.
(3) Both sides find a mutually acceptable compromise. An example of this is the Taif Agreement that ended the Lebanese Civil War of 1975-1991 that allowed the Lebanese Maronites, Sunnis, Shiites, and other minorities to resolve many of their differences. All of the parties accepted the agreement.
What amendment organize a protest march against the war in iraq?
It doesn't have to be Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Libya, or Norway; the 1st Amendment protects US citizens to peaceably assemble to protest.
