What food group does jam belong to?

It's made of fruit but if you check the label you will see it has been essentially stripped of all nutrients. It is also full of sweeteners so it should not be counted as a fruit. It would be in the sweets/fats/oils group.

How do you make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich?

Take two slices of your favorite bread.

Lay them out on the cutting board or counter.

Find your favorite peanut butter and jelly (grape is my favorite) then open up the jars.

Find a dinner knife, not a sharp one, you don't need a sharp knife for this job.

Use butter or margarine to "butter" both slices of bread. (only the side facing up)

Put the peanut butter on the right side piece of bread about 1/4 inch thick. (do not put peanut butter on the left hand slice, it will change the taste and mouth feel, you will have to start all over)

Put your jelly on the left hand slice of bread, about 1/4 inch thick.

Place your hand under the left hand side slice of bread, the one with the jelly!

Lift the slice and flip it jelly side down on top of the right hand side slice of bread (the one with the peanut butter)

Press down lightly to seal and if you want to be fancy, cut it in half and place both halves on a small plate.

Pour a large glass of cold milk, take both and go watch cartoons, let mom and dad sleep in for a change.

Do you need to refrigerate jelly after opening?

no you don't have to refrigerate the jelly. Mostly the companies that make the jelly say that you have to refrigerate it because if someone were to get food sick from something (anything, not even the jelly) then its likely in this day-n-age of sueing that the jelly company will be sued because they didnt promote "good health" (much like mcdonalds having to put the caution warning that their hot coffee can burn because some manipulative woman in the early 90s sued McDonald for burning herself while drinking the coffee and "not knowing that it would burn". The real reason that you don't have to refrigerate jelly after opening it is because there is a high level of sugar (obviously) and when bacteria get in it (and they get in anything regardless if its refrigerated or not) they die because they lose water from their cells as the water goes to the sugar to satisfy homeostatis (an equillibrium for water concentration). When they lose enough water they shrivel up and die. This is something that the average microbiology student should know but they tend to still refridge it out of habit, much like refrigerating butter (you also don't have to refrigerate this, LOL! for real!)

"

Although one doesn't need to refridgerate butter, by doing so it will go rancid less quickly.Yes. If you do not refrigerate jelly you can receive salmonella poisoning from the heat of the jelly.

Who invented jelly?

The making of jam and jelly probably began centuries ago in the Middle Eastern countries, where cane sugar grew naturally. It is believed that returning Crusaders first introduced jam and jelly to Europe; by the late Middle Ages, jams, jellies and fruit conserves were popular there. In fact, the word "jelly" comes from the French word "gelée" which means to congeal. The use of cane sugar to make jam and jelly can be traced back to the 16th century when the Spanish came to the West Indies where they preserved fruit.
