Where should the timing be set for a 1985 jeep cj7 Jeep is misfiring when accelerated and no power. boggs down when pulling out of 1st acts like it is running cold all of the time timing off?

i`m not sure about the timing because there`s either a straight 6 or the hurricane 4 engines for that year, carburated of course. if its misfiring, it could be due to the plug wires .they might be incorectly in stalled on the distributor.it could also be dirty fuel and/or air filters. i would check the filters first(air) ,then check to see if the plug wires are in the right firing order on the cap. if your still having problems let me know, i`ll see if i can help.thanks, walt

On the jeep cj7 wiper switch 3 plug for what is each terminal in the back?

The wiper motor plug that goes into the back of the switch has 3 contacts: park, fast, and slow. The switch has 5 contacts, because two other wires come into it. One takes +12V from the fuseblock, and one goes to the washer pump. The rotary part of the switch has no position where contacts are open. When you have the switch "off", the 12V contact is connected to the park conductor of the motor.

Your cj8 scrambler shifts fine into and out of 4 wheel low but is very difficult to shift into and out of 4 wheel high?

This is very typical of the Jeep CJ transfer cases. This is usually a sign of

little use on the transfer case. This is nothing to be overly concerned

about. I have owned 6 CJs and all but one (with a 304 cid and less

common transfer case) had tight transfer cases. More transfer cases

usage will lead to easier shifting.

What are the best tires to fit a 1999 Jeep CJ?

First off no such thing as a 1999 jeep cj, im sure you ment "TJ". If its stock height then I would suggest about a 31in tall by 10.50width tire. A good web site is http://www.tirepackage.com. I use it myself

Wheels are very important also. You have an inset and an out set. The inset is a measurement from lugnut holes to inside edge off your wheel, and outset being to outside of wheel. For instance, if your tires were to rub your frame, you will need more outset. Britt

How do you remove keyswitch from Jeep?

well first get two tools. steering wheel puller and a lock plate "c"clip tool. remove steering wheel, lock plate and remove the three screws that hold the turn signal switch in place remove turn signal handle and 4 way button. pull the turn switch out of the way, there is enough cable to do so. the key switch is held in place by a small flat retainer about a 3/8 inch long. if you have a new unit in hand you can gauge where the release slot is. depress the retainer with a screw driver blade and slide out the old one and slip in the new. enjoy

How do you put a Jeep CJ7 into 4x4?

it depends on what year and what transfer case you have usually there is a rod on the floor then you turn your front lock outs to lock on the inside of your wheels this works for most unless you have quadratrac then there is a nob in the glove box that turns( the quadratrac is all pneumatic so the air lines might possibly be cracked) there is also a lever on the driver side of the tunnel to switch from 4 high to 4 low

Do ing a Jeep CJ7 body Transfer to 1988 Ford Bronco2 chassis with the 2.9L V6 TBI Throttle Body Injected so I need a detailed schematic showing which wires are needed and which can be cut or taped off?

More Info: The Jeep CJ7 is a 93.5" wheelbase, while the BroncoII is a 94" wheelbase, so it's a rather easy swap, the problem comes into play when you're trying to figure out what individual wires are actually necessary to run the engine efficiently, not in closed loop all the time. The jeep body has it's own wiring harness for the dash lights and cranking mechanism(ignition switch, etc). Since it's a TBI, i'd think it would be a pretty easy job. Although, it may just have to come down to pulling the bronco body, then checking what wires are hooked to what, and which ones just dangle from where they were attached to the dash lights, etc. If anyone has done this before, it'd be nice to have an input. Jeep frame is bent beyond repair, and had this broncoII sitting around that had been rolled over.

All comments welcome, thanks.

How do you replace the turn signal switch on a CJ7 - 1979?

first it's a pain. you have a GM steering column so parts are not a problem but you will need some special tools to make this happen. one is a steering wheel puller the other is a lock plate remover. pop the steering wheel center off and you will see a big nut, remove it first then install the puller and pop off the steering wheel. remove plastic dust cover and install the lock plate removal tool. tighten it up until you see a gap around the "C" clip at the base of the steering shaft. using two small screw drivers push down (yes down) on one end of the clip. insert the other small screw driver in the groove that you just pushed the c clip out of. now, with that in place, take the first screw driver and slip the clip over the second driver and walk it around until its free. (this can be very trying so be prepared). once the c clip is free remove the tool and the lock plate. you now for three screws that hold the switch in place. remove them and the emergency 4 way button and turn signal lever. now for the fun. under the dash and on top of the steering column is a long flat connector. remove it from it's mount, separate the connector and carefully pull the switch and connector out. fish the other one in and reverse the removal instructions. good luck, as this can be a 12 pack job.

What would cause a 81 cj5 jeep to sputter and then go dead after getting it up to 35 to 40 mph Runs fine in idle and in low speed Hard to start after it sputters out?

If the vehicle has a carburetor, check the rubber hose from the fuel filter to the carb. If it's old, when running at higher speed the increased pressure will cause the hose to "pinch" closed thus restricting gas flow.

Does a 1980 Jeep CJ-5 Have Manual Or Power Brakes?

It may have either manual or power. I am not sure if the factory put them on but I have seen them with power brakes.

To tell if you have MANUAL brakes look for the master cylinder ( this is where you add brake fluid ) and see if it is attached to the firewall directly.

if the master cylinder mounts to a some what large round unit with a large black approx. 1/2 " diameter vacuum hose attached to it it is POWER brakes.
