My 1979 Jeep Wrangler is stuck in 3rd gear can you suggest anything to do?
I assume it's a floor shifter. Could be a problem with the shifter or else with the transmission itself. I'd suggest looking at the shifter first, which can be removed from inside the vehicle. The end of the shifter that protrudes into the transmission may have broken off, especially if this happened suddenly. That happened to me on my 81. It also may be very, very worn. If everything looks OK with the shifter, then it's probably the tranny itself, which is a much tougher scenario.
What is the towing capacity of a 79 jeep CJ7?
I believe that the official towing capacity for the short wheelbase Wrangler is 2,000lbs. The CJ7 should be the same since it has the same wheelbase. Wheelbase is the limiting factor. Vehicles with longer wheelbases are inherently more stable during towing, especially when braking. I personally wouldn't be afraid to tow a little over 2,000lbs though providing that I had some sort of brakes on the trailer.
How do you know what type of coolant to use if you have no manual?
If your search for auto manuals on ebay.com, there is a reputable company that sells manuals for all sorts of vehicles for like $5.00. That is where I got my 1999 Mirage manual. Hope this helps. Go to the auto parts store and they can look it up for you. If not, call a dealer.
3 weeks ago you found the upper radiator hose almost completely squeezed in on itself so you replaced the thermostat and upper hose! Also, the cooling system has been flushed and refilled and the cap has been replaced! Could be a partially plugged radiator. Flushing will not always take care of this. I would check the thermostat in a pot of water and thermometer prior to install. I have installed faulty new thermostats. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. thermostat in upside down ? spring should be in the block dying fuel pump

Anyone added 3 point roll bar mounted seat belts to a pre 1982 CJ7?
I have. It all depends on how much effort you are willing to give, I added a 5 point rollbar mounted seatbelt to my 76 CJ-5. (5 points are better than three.) I am assuming that you have a welder, (got a jeep, need a welder.) I first bought the belts, then I ordered racing seats with the seatbelt holes. I welded a tubular seat frame from oneside to the other and tied it into the front rollbar with side bars. Next I welded a bar to the existing rollbar horizontally about 2.5 feet down from the top bar. Then I welded mounting tabs to that for my shoulder harnesses. The seat frame gave me many locations to weld tabs to for the lap belts. the sub belt mounted to the seat frame near the floor.
How do you remove the rear seat from a 1994 Toyota Celica?

Is is possible to swap a 242 L6 4.0L Jeep engine into a 1987 AMC Eagle with a 258 L6 4.2L engine?
With some modification it could be done
The blocks are nearly the same. If you use the 258 intake and distributor in the 4.0; the only part that will need modifying is the exhaust from the manifold. I did one in a weekend using a 727 from a 91 wagoneer and a 02 4.0 engine. I used the 258 intake, carb, and distributor. I used the old v belt system to make it easy. It's easier to mod up an engine that's already running than making it work later.
Is it ok to drive in 4 wheel high?
It's best not to drive in either low or high 4wd on hard surfaces, unless the system is specifically designed to be full time 4wd. Jeep's version of this on the CJ was called quadratrac, but it was not very popular, and required additional maintenance over the part-time 4wd systems.
It is approximately equal to a 185/100R15. Diameter is about 29.5 inches, casing width is about 7.4 inches.
Compared to a modern tire, it is tall for it's width, so finding an exact modern replacement is difficult. If there is room to use a wider tire, a 235/75R15 is only 0.75 inches smaller in diameter - but nearly 2 inches wider.
What is the difference between 55-75 jeep cj5 and 76-83 Jeep CJ5?
Outside of the frame, rear axel, rear differential, sloping windshield, sloping sports bar, dash, fuel filler location, springs, seats, interior body design.........not much! The front end of the Jeep is pretty much the same, but from the windshield back almost everything was changed.
I can think of a couple of reasons: 1. Less stress in the brake line due to shock, and relative motion beteen the master cylinder (mounted on the firewall) and the distribution block (on my vehicle, mounted on the frame). 2. More brake fluid in the longer brake line, which should absorb then dissipate heat better.

How do you change the ignition lock on a 1984 Jeep CJ7?
Here's a write-up http://www.epiccomputer.com/dale/jeepjunk/tilt/tilt.html)
my dad made of hot to rebuild an 80's Jeep steering column. (We're Jeep fiends.)
There are two different years covered in the write up and pictures from both a tilt wheel and a non-tilt wheel.
It may not be exactly your model, but you should have enough info to get it done.
The lock cylinder changes sometime between 80 and 85, but we're not sure when because we aren't sure what years all of our stuff came from. But both lock cylinders should be covered in the write-up.
How do you replace winshild wiper linkage on 1982 jeep cj5?
The dash pad has to come off. Once you have removed that, there are two plastic covers over access openings inside the windshield frame. When you remove those covers, you'll see the linkage is held together with radial retaining rings, which you can pull off with pliers. Then remove the parts at the pivots on the outside of the frame. You can then remove the motor with one part of the linkage. The rest of the linkage gets removed through the access openings. It can be a struggle. Be aware if you think you have a linkage problem, it might actually be a problem with the windshield frame. If possible, make sure there isn't too much flexing of the windshield frame with the wipers running. If they are iffy, you might be able to keep them running for this test by taking off 1 or both blades. I replaced the linkage on mine thinking it was worn out causing it to bind, then found out it was binding because the frame was flexing.
