A jellyfish is an animal in the cnidarian phylum along with anemones and other creatures with nematocysts (stinging cells). Some are tiny and some can grow very large (i.e. the lion's mane jelly). All jellyfish have nematocysts, however some jellies possess very weak nematocysts meant for tiny prey like copopods. The stinging cells in these jellies are generally not felt by humans with the exception of sensitive skin. Cnidarians do not possess brains, but some have eye spots for sensing light.

How to treat jellyfish sting?

I was stung by 3 jelly fish, first I applied vinigar but dident feel any releif from the pain, then I had a VERY HOT shower with gave immediate relief then i put mono floral honey (pure 100% honey) on 2 of the 3 stings. The 2 stings that I applied honey too were 80% gone with in an hour or applying the honey. The one sting I did NOT rub with NO honey was still sore and still had big red welts 72 hours later.

100% Honey works very good on jelly fish stings.

Is a box jellyfish sessile or motile?

Migration might be too strong of a term, but box jellies do demonstrate seasonal movement. During the spawning season (May - July) in Australia, box jellies congregate in the lower portions of freshwater rivers and mangrove channels. Their offspring then travel out to the coastal beaches during the wet season (Oct - Apr), where they grow to adult size and pose a serious threat to humans. Their life cycle completes when they travel back to the estuaries to sexually reproduce and then die.

There are dozens of box jelly species with varying life cycles and scientists are still largely unaware of the exact details, but the above description is generally true for the majority. Hibernation is not known to exist in these species.
