My Best Answer: It could take from 1 minute to over an hour, depending on a variety of factors. As in any travel, the shortest distance is a straight line. The shorter the distance, the less time it should take.
McCarran was opened in 1941 as the Alamo Airport on Highway 91, which later became Las Vegas Blvd (the Blvd) and the Strip. The old terminal is still there (called Signature Executive for private jet), just south of the "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign that constructed 1959 to mark the beginning of the Strip.
So with McCarran, it all depends on which terminal, the destination, the route taken, present traffic conditions, and the mode of transportation you take. As a rule taking the Airport tunnel to the highway to get to a Strip Hotel is considered to be about 4 miles longer in distance than taking the northbound connector via the Swenson Street airport exit.
For example, let's say you get your bags, and head through the east doors where the taxis are waiting and it's almost midnight on a Wednesday night. It's November, Thanksgiving week, and the weather conditions are very favorable.
Your driver asks for your destination and you replay, "Tropicana". If you don't tell him otherwise, he may drive via I-15 N, it's 6.4 mi and takes approx 11 min.
