A lobsters live starts as an egg which hatches and is released as larvae by the female, where they drift to the surface in their planktonic phase, which lasts for a couple months. At this stage they are only a few millimeters across, and do not resemble adults, but look more like small shrimp. These grow and moult a few times, the third time being a metamorphasis where they resemble an adult, and about a half inch across, where they begin to drift to the sea bottom (the benthic phase). Initially they hide all the time, as they continue to grow and moult they begin to venture out more to forage.

One definition of analogy is an agreement in details or features, which lobsters and crabs share; but, the words crab and lobster in common usage have distinct and separate meanings; a crab is not a type of lobster nor is a lobster a kind of crab. Probably a matter of opinion but it would seem to stretch credibilty to take license for direct substitution of one for the other in literature. It might be better to say they have analgous characteristics or analogous structures. Lobsters are not fish.
