Who would know a ball park estimate of what it would cost to change out the timing belt on a 1992 miata labor and parts?

I just had my timing belt changed for $350. This included replacing the water pump. Simce the water pump costs about $40 and requires the same labor as a timing belt change, it's wll worth haveing done at the same time. My Miata is a 2000 SE, the cost should be close as the work is the same for all the model years. There's probably a local Miata club not to far from where you live. Check out the http://www.miata.net site, club link. Connect with the club, they will know who does good work and what the going rate is in your area. Good luck, Jack

How do you adjust miata headlights on a 2002?

Find the long "bolt" jutting out from the green connector behind the headlamp. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to adjust it up and down.

A second adjuster is found further down, but is protected by a grey, cylindrical plastic piece and in most circumstances should not be touched.

Why does your airbag warning light in your 1994 Mazda miata flash on and off?

Problem in the air bag system, its probably flashing a code that will give you direction as to whats wrong. I had a 91 flashing code 4, I put in 5 used air bag modules all flashed a different code, bought a new one from Mazda cured the problem. Just replace the module no matter what the code blinks are, the modules go bad fast, sensors almost never go bad.

When you pull the lever to pop open the gas cap cover on your 2005 Subaru Outback the door doesn't pop open how do you repair it before you run out of gas?

Solved the problem myself. Have to disassemble rear panels inside rear hatch until you find cable leading to gas tank door. About a hour or two. Replug plastic unit that opens gas door. Later glued it in place so this may not happen again.

What engine is in 1991 miata?

A 1.6L inline 4-cylinder BP family engine.

Why does your check enging light keep coming on. It always reads EGR valve insufficent flow. The mechanics says there is nothing wrong at all.?

There's a small sensor that sits in mid air on 2 hoses that come off one of the lines to the EGR valve. It has a 2 pole electrical connector going to it and sits about 6" above the driver valve cover and 8" behind the power steering fluid reservoir. It's Motorcraft part # should be 4U7E-9J460-AA. This is a common problem on the 4.6's especially. What's the year and engine size of your truck?

AnswerGo to another mechanic. If the light is on, then there is something wrong with the emissions system. Sounds like the EGR valve need cleaning or replacing. AnswerMiata engines typically run very rich and it is not uncommon for carbon deposits to build up enough to clog smaller ports on the emissions system. The common culprits are :

1. Crudding on the EGR Valve itself, which will cause the mechanism to freeze. You can review cleaning this at the following site:

http://sites.google.com/site/redcapsmiata/tutorials/egr-valve

2. The port after the EGR valve, which runs into the front of the intake manifold:

http://miata.net/garage/manifold/index.html

Both cleanings can be done by people with a basic, mechanical aptitude.

Where is the EGR valve on a 1999 miata?

The EGR Valve is located behind the intake manifold, and held by two bolts.

Where is the map sensor located on a Mazda Miata Mx5 2000 located?

There is no MAP sensor on a 1999-2000 Mazda Miatas. There is a boost sensor that assists with controlling the EGR Valve solenoid and a few other features, and is located on the passenger side on the lower part of the intake manifold, and says "Boost Sensor" on it.

The primary sensor for monitoring incoming air and fueling is done by the Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF), not MAP (like Hondas). This is located on top of the stock air box and is a black, cylindrical tube about 6" long.

How do you replace the fan belts on a 2001 Kia Sportage?

Kia belt InfoWell you could buy adifferent car, that would "change the belts"... I own a Kia Sportage.. a 2000...I am just today doing this.... Mind you I am replaceing the radiator, belts and hoses....

There are 3 belts.... The belt around the fan (BTW That fan will eventually freeze up on you and make it feel like the car is running rough... a new fan will cost about 125. and a new radiator about $140 from 1800-radiators) I already have the radiator out and the hoses out.... here is what I am seeing. The first belt is on the fan and generator, I think I remember that the generator has a tightening bolt... loosen it, you may also have to lossen the bolt that the generator hinges on.The second belt is the AC belt and again, you have to loosen the bolts..The third belt I have not found the tightening bolt but it does have a pivot bolt that has to be loosened... it may be that it does not have a tightening belt and you have to pry it taunt while you tighten the pivot bolt... I will know more Sunday.Mean time I will be at the library looking at a chilton Asian car repair book that says it covers the kia, and I see there is a kia book on a different kia car (Acura?) and who knows the engine might be the same....

as always legal disclaimers apply, and you should not take action on my words cause I am not a professional.G'Luck... I'm going to trade my Kia in for a REPAIRABLE car!!! even if it has to be American!

How do you replace just the mass airflow sensor for a 1990 miata?

The Mass air flow meter in a 1990 miata is attached to the black airfilter box on the driver's side of the engine compartment. It is the big silver metal and black or brown plastic item between the filter holder and the black plastic pipe that goes behind the radiator over to the other side of the engine. Replacement consists of removing the pipe, disconnecting the electrical plug from the sensor, unbolting the airbox and MAF sensor as a unit from the car, then removing the four bolts that hold the sensor to the airbox. You can usually get used units on eBay or at Miata Mania. Many times the "Flapper box" type MAF units like this one are just fine, it is the electrical plug connections that go bad due to corrosion. Try unplugging and cleaning both sides of the connection with electrical contact cleaner ( any automotive store will carry it) before removing and replacing the unit.

How do you fix the power window on a Mazda miata?

It depends on the problem your experiencing. There are two main components to the window, the window lift motor and the regulator. Either can be replaced rather simply. And both parts can be ordered online. I do now that to get in there and see the problem, you need to take off the inner door panel by unscrewing all screws and carefully pulling the door away (so you don't break and have to replace the door clips).

Most body shops will fix it for you for around $200 - $300 (including parts and labor). this also depends on cost per hour and what not though
