Do you need to use the strut mount with certain struts?

Mazda Miatas do not have struts (they use shocks), so the braces that go across the engine bay are not absolutely necessary or beneficial as they would be with vehicles that have a strut setup. Shock tower bars on Miatas do tend to add rigidity, but there is a very mixed consensus by Miata enthusiasts on whether they offer a lot of value on Miatas.

Can you replace the soft top with a hard top on any of the miatas?

Hardtops do not typically replace soft tops, they are an addition. When you use a hardtop, you typically place the soft top in the down position, and then mount the hardtop on the car.

Some owners enjoy a hardtop only and will permanently remove the soft top, but it is not mandatory.

Hardtop will mount to the windshield latch points similar to the soft top. The rear of the hardtop will also require two Frankenstein bolts, which will replace two of the chrome screws located on the chrome metal strips behind the soft top on the outside of the car.

It will also require you to purchase side strikers so that the hardtop is firmly mounted on the sides. The side strikers will be mounted in the side panel just before the seat belt towers. It requires cutting the plastic panels, which can be done with a small rotary tool.

All years will have hardtops that can be used. Be aware that some hardtops will not have defrosters and others will. If you are purchasing used, be mindful that a hardtop with a defroster may not have the correct defroster pigtail to mate to your Miata year. In which case you can replace the pigtail if needed.

What kind of battery does a 2003 miata have?

How do you replace the oxygen sensor in a Mazda Miata?

The first O2 sensor is located under the hood in the exhaust. It is a simple matter of unplugging it and removing from the exhaust. The second O2 sensor is located under the car and the wire runs through the floor board and the connector is found under the carpet under the drivers seat. The drivers seat will have to be removed and the carpet pulled back to disconnect the O2 sensor wire. The car must then be jacked up the catalytic converter unbolted and pulled down to gain access to the O2 sensor.

Is it possible to tow a 1993 Mazda Miata equipped with a 5-speed trans behind an RV?

if by a five speed, you mean a standard shift grannie, then yes. Mazda says not to tow with the rear wheels on the ground (including a tow truck). Either put dollies under the rear tires and tow normally or I back mine onto a tow dolly and tow it backwards. As long as the drive wheels are not on the ground you're fine. I've seen lots towed behind RV's with all four on the ground. But like I mentioned Mazda says no. warning when towing in reverse like I do you MUST secure the steering whell the locking mechanism does not lock befor the wheels turn. I towed mine about a mile then saw it in my mirror going down the road at an angle.

Where is the battery on a 1992 Mazda Miata?

Why does Mazda miata gets water in the frame rails?

Ha! Glad you asked.

There are two drain holes on either side of the convertible top when lowered. They are several inches from the elbow joint on which the top pivots. Leaves and dirt tend to build up and clog the drain holes. Use a slim pipe brush with an attached non metallic stick of somesort. I used a plastic gun barrel brush with a straight piece of hanger with electric tape wrapped around it but must be of plastic bristles in order to avoid scratching the protective coating in the drain tube which can cause corrosion. Once you find them and clean them out you should raise the top close the windows and hose down the roof . You should see water draining on both sides of the car right in front of the rear tires. Not doing so will accumulate water inside your miata and you will actually here it sloshing back and forth when driving. Worst part is that it can corrode the outer layer of your cars CPU and give you serious problems.

The convertible top will last forever if treated properly with each wash. Ask me how.

What makes a 1994 Mazda Miata bog down when hot on acceleration?

It is probably because your car is pinging, so your ECU is pulling timing to avoid the damaging consequences. Try a higher octane to see if it helps your problem.

With the age of the car, it may also be a good idea to replace the fuel filter. If you cannot clean the injectors, run some fuel injector cleaner through the engine as well.

New plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, air filter, even higher grade gas i run premium in mine...it's a 92.

Where is the fuse for the cigarette lighter in a 91' miata?

The fuse block is just above the drivers kick panel (above where your left ankle would be when your foot is on the dead pedal). The cigarette lighter fuse is fuse no. 9. There are 3 vertical rows of fuses. No. 9 is the top fuse on the middle row. It's not the easiest thing to get to. You'll need to be somewhat flexible, and I think you need an Allen wrench to get the cover off. I took mine off and left it off.

What does airbag code 12 on a miata mean?

Here's a site that will explain everything you need to know about airbag lights and resetting the system. http://www.airbagsolutions.com/ This website gives you the procedure for diagnosing and resetting airbag lights. See if your car is listed here. http://www.airbagsolutions.com/vehicles_list.aspx On most vehicles, the airbag light should come on for @6 seconds, and then go off if the system is working properly. If there is a fault or a problem in the system, the light will remain illuminated, or flash continuously. If the airbag light does not work properly, some vehicles have an audible tone that sounds indicating a problem with the airbag light system. When the light is on (or the tone is sounding), the airbag will NOT deploy, even in an accident. The flashing light on your car is telling the answer you need. On some vehicles, the light is flashing a two digit code. Once you know the code, you can most likely repair it yourself. There are fairly easy procedures that most people are capable of repairing. Airbagsolutions.com has the fault code charts to tell you what is wrong and how to fix it!

Some vehicle manufacturers accommodate systems without a scanner (like Toyota, Lexus, Nissan, Infinity, Honda, Acura, Ford, Lincoln, Mazda & Mercury) and some require a scan tool. Check out these websites also for more info on airbag systems and the light. http://blog.airbagsolutions.com/archive/2007/11/18/why-is-my-airbag-light-on.what-should-i-do.aspx

How do you replace the fog light bulb in a Mazda miata?

Courtesy of ehow.com:

  • 1

Park the vehicle on a level surface away from traffic. Loosen the lug nuts of the front wheel on the side of the Miata that has the blown fog light. Block the rear wheel on that side of the vehicle with both wheel chocks.

  • 2

Lift the front of the vehicle with the jack. Place a jack stand under the front frame and lower the vehicle onto it.

  • 3

Remove the loose lug nuts and front wheel by hand. Loosen the black plastic trim pins in the inner wheel well trim with the Phillips screwdriver and then pry them out with the trim tool. Fold the trim over to expose the rear of the fog lamp assembly.

  • 4

Use the socket set to remove the bolts from the guard panel over the fog lamp assembly. Move the guard aside by hand.

  • 5

Squeeze the fog light socket by hand, turn it counterclockwise and then pull it back, out of the fog lamp assembly.

  • 6

Remove the old bulb from the socket by hand and replace it with the new H1 fog light bulb. Insert the socket into the lamp assembly and turn it clockwise until it clicks into place.

  • 7

Reinstall the guard, inner wheel well trim, wheel and lug nuts in reverse of how you took them off. Lower the Miata off the jack stand with the jack. Tighten the lug nuts with the lug wrench before driving.
