Near the intake manifold, a small plug and wire sticks out on the pipe.

A small bit of oil, if on the firing end or at the initial threads is acceptable, but may indicate wear along the rings or head gasket. Oil in the area above the crush washer and threads (where the plug wire is connected) could indicate that the plug was not in tightly enough, or that your valve cover gasket needs to be replaced.

Check the fuse. If it is blown, lose, or missing, the lights won't work. If that doesn't work, check to see if they have jammed in place.

It is on the passenger side of the engine under the intake manifold. When I first located it, I wasn't sure it was possible to get a oil filter wrench on it, but you can with your left hand leaning over the passenger side fender.

the water temp sensor in the earlier NA models are at the coolant neck in front of the engine. it's the plug pointing straight up on the 90-93s.

A '99 is a Mk 2 or NB model. I'm more familiar with the Mk1 or NA models, so this may not be correct for yours but ... It is behind the dashboard on the drivers side. Remove the panel below the steering column and look for a blue plastic box. It should be above the steering column. It's very difficult to get out. you will need a 1/4" drive metric socket set with some long extensions. You will need to lie on your back with your head underneath the dashboard. Removing the steering wheel and the drivers seat, while not absolutely necessary, makes this much easier. NOTE!!: DO NOT remove the steering wheel OR fool with the control module, unless you are comfortable disconnecting the airbag. It is not dangerous if done correctly, but the hazard is YOUR responsibility. I STRONGLY recommend getting a shop manual and following the directions for disarming the air bag system. You may want to look at the forum on Miata.net for more info.

The plastic, black box to the right of the engine is the air intake box. The Intake Air Temperature sensor is plugged in by a rubber grommet on the fender-side of the air box. It comes out with a simple pull.

$500 - $600 for a mechanic to replace it with all new parts except flywheel, which is resurfaced. Doing it yourself will take between 8 - 12 hours, but will save the $300+ for labor. Tough job, though for diy.

every 60 to 80 K , its cool to leave it longer because this is a non-interference engine, so if the belt breaks the engine wont be damaged, but you will be stranded until the belt is replaced

put the top up It's probably the rain rail. This is a strip of rubber and plastic attached to the rear bottom edge of the soft top. You can't see it because it is below the point where the soft top and the body panels meet - just forward of the trunk lid. Its job is to collect water that runs down the back of the top and direct it to drain holes that are located in the body just in back of each door. What usually happens: - The plastic portion is thin polystyrene. After about 5 years is cracks and starts to leak. This is made worse if leaves have slid down the top and gotten in there. - You can buy a replacement rain rail from Moss motors (miatamania.com) for about $125. Replacing it is a headache, but not terribly difficult. Figure on about 5 hours if you are reasonably handy with tools; and you will need a friend to help. Get a shop manual to tell you how. The Miata Enthusiast's Shop Manual is excellent. You can get it from flyinmiata.com Before you buy the rain rail, make sure the drains are not plugged. The shop manual will tell you where they are. It's possible this is the cause of your problem, but in my experience not likely.

The oil pressure sender is right next to the oil filter, underneath the intake manifold. Unplug the wire connected to the oil pressure sender, simply by pulling it off.

It's difficult to reach and in a very tight spot. Using a deep socket and ratchet extensions is the best way to reach it.

I recently degrease my wifes 1990 miata, and had the same trouble.

i found that being twin cam . the water had gotten down in to the spark plugs.

I first removed the plug leads, then blew out the water with compressed air.

then removed the plugs and wiped clean, with a rag down the spark plug holes, then finished with a clean of contact cleaner , then reassembles and yay no more splutter

Its actually pretty easy. You can look it up on Youtube where a trained professional displays how its done; that's where I learned. I recently replaced mine with a little effort. First, you need to remove the bottom plate under the steering wheel that is connected with two screws on each side and then take the plastic portion around the steering wheel that is connected with about 4 screws. The top plastic portion that surrounds the speedometor has three self connectors that pulls out but before you do that you need to be very careful and be patient because the connectors will break and will possibly break the top plastic portion. You might be able reach under the dash and help force it out ward. Once you have taken the plastic portion off, you can see the speedometor connected and there is a single lip that you push down and it will disconnect. You know go to the engine area and squeeze the rubber part that is securing the cable, it will pop out and feed it outward. You then go underneath the car and unscrew the cable with some channel locks and feed the cable out. There is a clamp between the engine and the wall which is hard to reach but it can be bent back using a thin firm stick. Then all you have to do is repeat the process backward. You might have to play a little under the car in lining up the cable exactly with the connection. It took me a half an hour to complete. However for me, I broke the top plastic portion but I managed to buy another for only $20.00 off craigslist.

The IAT on a 94-97 models is not a separate component, like on later models. It is included in the Mass Air Flow Sensor.

The Mass Air Flow Sensor is the black, plastic tubular component connected at the top of your airbox on the driver's side.

Take off the interior door panel and assess the problem, it could either be the window lift motor or the regulator. It may be both. Either way, you need to order the new parts (gomiata.com is great) and install them. Many body shops will do this for you also, at a higher cost due to labor.

The Miata has extremely good gas mileage. Once the engine is hot in mine, I will get about 30 miles per gallon city and 40 highway on regular gas. I own a 1990. This is because the car is so small, that the engine does not need much power for the car. However, this doesn't mean that the Miata is a boring car. It has a ton of power for its size, and will accelerate and corner better than most cars in its stock form.

get the chiltons manuel from online or at AutoZone

Look closely at the radio and you will find two small, plastic tabs on either side of the radio. These can be lightly pried off with your fingertips or a small flathead screwdriver. Careful not to mar your radio bezel.

Once removed the radio can be removed with your typical Ford-style radio removal tools purchased at any auto shop.
