Mazda Protege

You can purchase a wheel adapter in the size you need. It will allow the axle to bolt to the adapter and then the adapter will fit the wheel you select.

If you look from the front of your car with the hood open, look where the exhaust manifold is at should be right in front of you engine..follow it down about half way on the left side you should see a rubber hose that runs from the radiator to the engine. Follow it towards the engine youll see it ends at a water outlet kind of at an angle held by two bolts, thats where your thermostat is.

Its easy to repalce,

-Drain coolant from radiator

-pull the hose off the outlet

-unbolt the outlet

-pull thermostat

-replace with new thermostat and new gasket (maybe some gasket sealer also if you want)

-Rebolt back on along with hose

-fill with 50/50 coolant, and let it run with the radiator cap open

to let air bubbles out untill the fans turn on at least twice and you see it level out. Keep an eye on the temp gauge.

- once thats done recap it and your done

probably an 1hr to 2 hour DIY job with basic tools

Yes it does I too own a Mazda protege 95 with a 1.5 liter and i had to replace the tone ring on my mazda. I ask what does this do and the shop told me its for the abs. But only the LX and ES model has it.

It is run off of the same fuse as the engine computer.

Check to see if the wires that go from the hold light down on the shift lever aren't shorting because of the insulation peeling. I had the same thing happen to my 94 Protege but the light started doing that after I whacked the dashboard really hard so I must have messed something up under there. I had the same problem on a 93 Mazda and it was a bad fuse just search for it and put in a new one it will all start to work again. The speed sensor which is located up near the instrument cluster is bad. My 1994 is doing this too, I need to find out if the speed sensor is part of the cluster or if it's a separate item.

To remove the door panel on a 1999 Mazda protege you need to do the following:

1. there is a screw hidden behind a cover that can easily be opened on the door's side that is closer to the body - unscrew it.

2. there is a pin by the latch that keeps that door closed, it has two layers. you need to pull out the only the pin which is the smallest layer.

3. there are two screws holding the handle in place - remove them.

4. behind the handle there are two more screws - unscrew them too.

5. there is a screw holding the inner lever - unscrew it.

6. carefully pull out all the click on connectors that are places all around the door.

7. carefully pull up the electric window switch if you have it (start from the back of it).

8. Carefully push the lever and window switch into the door so that they stay hanging when you take out the panel.

9. You need to pull the door about 2 inch up from the window before you take it out. pull it away from the body first to take it from under the mirror and then up.

10. now put the door panel back carefully so that you do not move the lock out of place.

11. make sure you know which screws go where!!!

Trouble code P0134 means:O2 sensor circuit no activity detected (Bank 1 Sensor 1)

Mazda recommends that the belt be replaced every 105k.

The Mazda 323 fuel filter is located in the fuel tank. The fuel tank will need to be drained in order to change the fuel filter.

The thermostat is located in the cooling neck located at the end of the cylinder head next to the distributor. Instructions: Drain coolant, remove both bolts to thermostat housing (one bolt may not come completely out because of a sensor and expect much coolant to pour out), unstick the thermostat housing from the engine, remove thermostat from engine, clean all gasket surfaces, install thermostat in engine with the spring towards the inside of the engine, install gasket with thermostat housing, tighten bolts, fill coolant, start and check for leaks.

There are O2 sensors on the 99 1.6L Protege I don't know about the 1.8L. The 1st one is located at the top of the exhaust manifold where it comes off the engine. The 2nd is located about a foot down the manifold from the 1st. They are not cheap to replace I suggest you know witch one is bad before you replace it.

I have a manual 96 Mazda Protege, with the parking break located behind the shifter. The adjustment bolt is located right next to the parking break on the left side (drivers side) of the parking break handle. you will have to remove the rubber cover around the parking break shaft in order to see the bolt.

Necessary... no. a good idea... yes. The belt should have been replaced 30,000 miles ago and could be getting old enough to break, but is probably at least stretched some. Replacing it will prevent engine damage when it decides to go.
You don't list what engine or year. Only the 2002-03 2.0L 4-cylinder (DOHC) engine is an interferance engine. If the belt breaks on this engine you will have severe engine damage. The reast you will just be stranded. All the other Mazda engines recommend replacing the belt at 70,000 miles, (106,000 km). The 2.0 Liter recommendation is 100,000 miles, (160,000 km). So if you have a 2.0 liter you have time left. Any others start looking for a repair shop.

In simple terms, overdrive is the final/cruising gear. It reduces the power output by lowering the gear ratio. The overdrive mechanism increases fuel efficiency, and saves strain on the transmission and the drive train. When the vehicle is started the overdrive is always on, but it can be turned off by a switch button, which is often located on the shifter. Turning the overdrive off will prevent the vehicle from shifting into the overdrive when traveling at the speed of around 40 MPH. It is recommended that the overdrive is constantly on under normal driving conditions. It should be turned off when, for example, hauling heavy loads or going up a long gradual incline.

The most common problems that would cause these symptoms are a bad thermostat or a bad water pump, to check you water pump allow your car come to operating temp with the radiator cap off and look inside to see if water is moving, if it is then your thermostat is probably bad, if it isn't then your pump is the problem

Buy a new one.

The speedometer cable (which runs from the transmission to the dashboard) has snapped. This is a two-piece cable, and the one-piece cable in later Proteges will not work. I had the transmission replaced, and the cable could never be fit in properly. This is a mechanical speedometer, so you would have to change the entire speedometer part of the instrument panel to use a magnetic/electronic speedometer.
