What are the sales promotion strategies by McDonald's?

McDonald uses sales promotion to increase product use. Sale promotion is a way to keep loyal customers and gain new ones. McDonald's does this by giving coupons, premiums, and sweepstakes.

coupons- is a price reductions certifiction when a customer buys a product. McDonald's every few months sends out a little coupon book to promote its food. Some times you can find them in newspapers, other stores that are partners with them, go in to a store and ask if they are handing out cuopon books, or even now just recently they have been giving coupons out on the back of receipts.

premiums- is a extra item offered when a product is purchased or can be two of the same products sold for the price of one. A premium they do is with their happy meals. You buy it and get a toy as a little some thing extra. Anothe way is they offer the Big Mac or filet o fish 2 for $4.

sweepstakes- Depend on chance and participation is free. It also attracts more customers. Mcdonalds does the monopoly sweepstakes. The sweepstakes allows the customers to collect tokens which are given on certain items in the menu. In order to win a customers has to collect all the tokens of a certain property of that color and they win the prize.

What is the difference between McDonald in US and McDonald in India?

I work at an American McDonald's, but we're close to the border of Canada, so we have a lot of Canadian customers.

As far as menu items go, the Big'n'Tasty is called the Big Extra in Canada, and they seem to have "junior" meals available with small fries and drinks. American restaurants don't have the McRib, to the best of my knowledge, or hockey cards. Or Fruitopia, but they do have Hi-C Orange.

As far as employee benefits go, Canadian McDonalds workers get a GoldCard which entitles them to half off any meal at any McD's in Canada or White Rock, and free soda at their restaurant.

American McDonalds employees get one free meal per shift that can only be eaten on a half-hour lunch break (unless your shift isn't long enough for a half, in which you can eat on your ten minute break), and, though I don't know if this is the same nationally, one slip on the back of paycheques good for half off of one purchase up to five dollars, and we're prohibited from using it with dollar menu items. Also, taking as much as a soda when you're not "entitled" to it (read: not on break) is considered theft, and appropriate action is supposed to be taken by managers.

------------------------------------------------

I work at a Canadian McDonalds and we're a Franchise so we are not run by the corporate head office. The biggest differences that I notice is definitely the menu items.

At my McDonalds we do NOT offer:

The Big Extra OR the Big'n'Tasty.

Twist cones (Chocolate&Vanilla ice cream)

Frappes, Lemonade, or those cherry Ice slushies.

20 piece nuggets

Honey Mustard sauce, ranch sauce, or buffalo sauce.

Also our Jr.Chickens are the size of the American McChickens. Our McChickens are full size sandwiches that come with their own meal. We also don't have a dollar menu, we have an Extra Value Menu instead, with the cheapest item being $1.29 for a plain hamburger. Also American Sweet Tea is our Iced Tea. American Iced Tea is DISGUSTING! It's basically just cold tea.

As far as employee benefits, it's actually called a Platinum card and it can be used at any McDonalds across Canada. It entitles us to 50% off everything on the menu including EVM items and drinks. We never get free meals unless a Manager is so inclined to promo our order. We only get free drinks 30 minutes before our shift, during our shift, and then 30 minutes after.

I've never actually heard of Hockey cards, and the meal that the person above speaks of, the "junior meal" does not exist at my McDonalds. People ask for them ALL the time and we have to explain that they don't exist, at least not anymore.

I'm also fairly close to the border as my McDonalds is in Ladner, BC.. which is about an 45 minute drive from the Peace Arch Washington border. We get a lot of American customers who ask for several things that we don't have on our menu. We also have issues with Canadian customers asking for American menu items due to TV Commercials. We even have an option on our tills for US Cash that does the exchange rate for us.

I hope that gave some perspective!

The most common thought is that MacD's meat comes from old cows that have lived past their production lives, and chickens (being broilers) that have been raised in crowded conditions eating massive amounts of grain. And it's probably true, but the company will probably never tell the public the truth of where they get their meat from.
