1995 mercury villager van - shifter on column is loose - will not move into park - all other gears works good - transmission shifts correctly - is ploblem located in steering column?

Answer

Yes !! There are bushings at the lever pivot and the shift collar. These should be checked and replaced at the dealer or a competent repair shop.

Lay on the floor with your head by the brake and accelerator pedals. With a flashlight, locate the end of the steering shaft with the universal joint and the disc with the holes around its edge. Just above this you will see a plate (it's gold anodized on my car) with two Torx bolts holding it to a shaft. Wiggle the shift lever and you will see it move. Those Torx bolts are loose! With a size T-30 Torx bit, preferably a socket tool and ratchet, take one the rest of the way out, apply a little Loctite to its threads, and re-install the bolt and tighten it up. Do the same with the other bolt. You may have to move the shift lever to different positions to get to the Torx bolt heads easily. Make sure parking brake is set! If you have messed with the cable adjustment at the transmission in your earlier attempts to fix this problem, you might have to recheck this adjustment again.

Where is the EEC-IV Diagnostic connector located on a 95 Mercury Voyager?

The diagnostic connector is located beside the starter. On your car it should be a four pin connector with three wires in it. More important than the location is what to do with it after you find it. For that you should have a repair manual, as the procedure gets quite involved.

What is the e-at button for on dash?

On my 1995 Mercury Villager the button in question (labled Power EAT in my van) alters the shift points to higher speed settings for more power to help out with situations like towing a heavier trailer. EAT simply stands for Electronic Automatic Transmission; the labeling has always been somewhat of a mystery. The best explanation is that the transmission is electronically controlled for shifting rather than the old speed vacuum control methods and this switch allows for easy reprogramming of the shift points to avoid constant up - down shifts that would result from the standard economy oriented settings.

Why does your mercury villager check engine light flash 20 times?

How do you remove the inner arms on the rear passenger seats in a 2000 Ford Windstar?

I don't know if this will work but its worth a try. Rotate the armrest up and down to locate the pivot point of the armrest. After locating the pivot point try pushing the armrest toward the seat very firmly. While pushing inward try rotating the armrest past the up or down stop. If you can get past that stop a little further rotation should bring it to a point where the arm rest will release and be able to be pulled away from the seat. Good luck. This method has worked on other seats but I don't know if it will work on a Windstar seat.

Can a 98 2.2l ohv non-ecotech sunfire engine be replaced with an ecotech 2.2l dohc engine without engine bay modification?

From everything that I have read about this, the engine mounting and the amount of room that the engine requires, the engine will fit in. However on saying that it was also stated that while the engine will fit, the electronics that go with the ecotec will not. Therefore, while the engine replacement will not be exceptionally hard you will have to go through all of the electrical to make sure that everything in your car still works.

Water pump location on a 1987 3.0 mercury villager engine?

There is no such thing as a 1987 Villager, I assume you mean a '97. The water pump is in the center of the engine in front, behind and above the crank pulley. To remove it requires that the crank pulley be removed, which may require special tools.

What causes a 1996 mercury villager odb codes p1400 p0135 p0325?

P1400 Differential Pressure Feedback EGR Circuit Low Input (Dealer TSB Number: 99103 addressed some possibles with this issue)

p0135 Heater O2 Sensor1 Bank 1 (This is the first sensor nearest the engine)

P0325 Knock Sensor

The last code often sets with almost any other problem, there is probably nothing wrong with the knock sensor itself, it's a passive part.

The O2 sensor may be bad, but it may also have a broken wire about six inches up the harness where there is a splice, this is a COMMON problem on these vehicles.

The P1400 I would not worry about until you get the O2 sensor problem fixed. These codes tend to daisy-chain on these vehicles, sometimes one problem will cause 3 codes, I've seen it many times.

Why my sliding door on 95 mercury villager want stay open for children to get out?

if you look on the bottom track there is a little rubber bump in it. On your van it must be almost flat. it is supposed to poke up like an upside down V.

Mine has the same problem and although I have tried to get it to stick up again, it may have to go to a mechanic who can replace the rubber bump.
