A baby's First Laugh Ceremony is when a baby is considered to be of two worlds at birth: that of the holy people and that of the earth people. As weeks pass, adults wait and listen for the child's first chuckle - a sign of joy that signals his desire to join his earth family and community. In Navajo culture, it is believed that a child assumes the qualities of the person who witnesses, his or her first giggle. The laugh witness hosts an A'wee Chi'deedloh ceremony. Guests, often bearing gifts, file past the infant with plates full of food. With help from the host, the baby holds out salt crystals for each of them. Placed on the food or tongue, the salt is meant to rejuvenate the good character in each recipient and serve as the first in a lifetime of generous acts by the child. At the meal's end, a family elder blesses the baby, wishing him a life of generosity and gratitude.

The female ones are the most common for people to live in over the last 100 years. They are cool in the summer and warm in the winter. When it was too hot in the summer people stayed in shade shelters nearby. Today there is usually a wood stove in the center, in the old days there was a fire and a smoke hole. It should be built and blessed in certain ritually prescribed ways. It is said that First Man made the first hogan. It should have a dirt floor or connection to the earth, and four opes for each direction. The walls were made of wood poles and the roof often corbeled. The whole thing or just the roof was covered in dirt for insulation. Today some are made with American construction and materials. Almost every part and area in a hogan has ritual meaning as well.

Churro have long staple of protective top coat and soft undercoat are well suited to extremes of climate. Some rams have four fully developed horns, a trait shared by few other breeds of the world. The Navajo-Churro is highly resistant to disease, and although it responds to individual attention, it needs no pampering to survive and prosper. The ewes lamb easily and are fiercely protective. Twins and triplets are not uncommon. The flavor of the meat is uncomparably superior, with a surprisingly low fat content. They are thought to be a cross between Jacob and Churra.
Horned Merino rams have long, spiral horns which grow close to the head. Merino wool is finely crimped and soft. Merino need to be sheared at least once a year because their wool does not stop growing. If the coat is allowed to grow, it can cause heat stress, mobility issues, and blindness. They are not usually raised for meat.
Rugs woven of Churro wool are much tougher and long lasting.
There is a Spanish saying that says do not mix churrasand merinas , i.e., do not confuse different concepts.
