What is a GK in netball?

GK stands for goal keeper in netball. There are other positions such as WA which mean wing attack etc... It is the 'Goal Keeper'. They stand by the goal post and try not to let the opposing team get the ball near the goal. If the opposing team does get the ball, their job is to 'mark' the 'Goal Shooter' who would be trying to shoot. To 'mark' they stand at least 3 feet away from their opponent and streatch up their arms to block their view of the goal, making it harder to shoot and score. If the 'Goal Shooter' misses the goal then it is also the GK job to catch the ball when it comes down from near the goal, they can then pass it to their team, so they can get a goal up at the other end. The other positions in netball are: C - cenntre WA - wing attatck WD - wing defence GA - goal attatck GD - goal defence GS - goal shooter GK - goal keeper

Why is flexibility needed when playing netball?

Flexibility is essential in Netball. This is because Netballers need to be able to stretch far, for interceptions and receiving passes. Also, Netballers need flexibility to change direction (dodging) and pivoting (moving the body and legs). Flexibility is also essential when preventing injury, e.g. preventing cramp and pulled muscles when moving around the court.

How is Coordination used in netball?

In netball, players run to catch a ball in front of them or catch a ball passed high, and other ways. they must not infringe the footwork rule. Players cannot run with the ball. Players must develop different ways to land and jump for the ball, the can develop a turn in the air and step-ons. So need to develop or have good co-ordination to receive the ball without infringing the footwork rule.

They also must have good agilty to defend and get free from their defence to move to catch the ball. This needs to be done without contacting the opposing player so good co-ordination is used here too.
