In the Marvel Universe, Loki's birth father is Laufey, king of the frost giants. When Odin slays the giants, he takes Loki in as his own son rather than allowing the baby Loki to die. In Norse mythology, Laufey is actually the name of his mother and his father's name is Farbauti.

I believe this comes from a theory proposed in the manga Durarara!. But this is two different cultures: the Celtics and the Vikings. Both are riders on horseback (in some parts of Ireland then durllan is in a horse drawn cart), both came to deliver souls to the beyond. But Valkyerie are beautiful women who take only warriors who die in battle to a great hall until then end of the world when they will fight with Odin in a futile last battle. It is an honor to be looked forward to. The Durllan is something to be feared since it is a rotting headless knight sent to claim the dead and carry off anyone’s soul. They are usually male, carry their own heads and only speak once. They shout out the name of the dead. If you accidentally meet a Durllan they will throw a bucket of blood at you. A Durllan is the representation of an old fertility god that received human sacrifice usually by beheading. Valkyries are daughters of the goddess Frie.
