We only have 86 female killers from the US. Is a rare thing when a female serial killer comes up. Female serial killers tend to murder men for material gain. The an analysis of the 86 female serial killers from the U.S., tells us that the victims tended to be spouses, children or the elderly.

The prefered method for killing is poison but this is not the only method. Shootings (used by 20%), suffocation (16%), stabbing (11%), and drowning (5%) were used by female serial killers. Aileen Wuornos is a totally different female serial killer. She killed strangers instead of friends or family away from home.

In the span of four years, 13 people's deaths would be attributed to the Cleveland Torso Killer. The best candidate was Dr. Francis Sweeney which was put in a mental facility from 1930 until his death. After that, the murders stopped in Cleveland. Most investigators believed he was in fact the culprit. The Black Dahlia was in 1947 so he could not be the culprit and even the modus operandi didn't match.

Maybe its a big city like New York and there is large crowds to blend into. somtimes it is the exact opposite but not likely. most of the time they have a wife and kids that allows them to blend in as well. they have a good job and nice car. so that's th main reasons it can be difficult to catch them. or somtimes they go from place to place killing or they will change the way they murder to throw the police off. hope this helps.

As a little girl in Michigan, Wuornos fantacized of some day being rich and famous. Not an uncommon dream for an American girl. But into adulthood she would often tell people that someone would one day write a book about her. It is possible that she felt this way because she instinctively knew she was very different from most people. Wuornos is a textbook case of 'nature and nurture' as a recipe for serial killers. She was a product of bad genes in a bad environment. It would have been very difficult for her to rise above it. The Green River Killer Gary Ridgeway inserted triangular-shaped rocks into the vaginas of several of his victims.

One serial killer removed several teeth in his victims. Some pose the bodies so as to cause shock or alarm at discovery. The Boston Strangler tied bows around his victim's neck. The Lipstick Killer left messages at the crime scenes written in the victim's lipstick.

Ted Bundy used a variety of ruses to entice or encourage his victims to their deaths with fake police badges or phony casts or splints and crutches. Once the victim was close enough to his infamous Volkswagon Bug, he would knock them unconscious and/or handcuff their hands. As far as anyone can guess, only one young woman was able to break away, saving her own life.
