Oldsmobile Intrigue

I have a '98 Intrigue, assume the blower is in the same location. On passenger side under the glove box. Remove sound barrier under glove box and pull carpet out of the way. Disconnect the power supply on the engine side of the motor by pushing in on the small plastic tab to release the wires. Remove the 3 hex head screws and it will drop down - you'll probably need to remove the metal wire harness in the same area to allow the fan enough room to come out of the hole. Only took me about 30 minutes to remove it.

It is called a socket.

Either it's the switch on the dash (unlikely) or the blower motor resistor pack (very likely). The resistor pack is usually easy to replace.

I'd say it is, if you can find a reasonably priced mechanic or do it yourself. A head kit isn't all that much, it is labor to pull the head and replace the gaskets, clean the head, etc. I suggest doing both heads while you are at it. An '01 should be worth at least $4K in decent shape.

I've replaced three out of four window regulators in my wife's '98 Intrigue. It is rather straightforward. You'll need Torx wrenches or sockets(better) First you'll need to pry off with a flatblade screwdriver the fitting under the door handle. You will need to unscrew (phillips, I believe) the screw affixing the handle area and electric door lock button. Disconnect the wiring clip to the lock button. You'll find another (two if memory serves) Torx bolt under the armrest. There are plastic clips holding the door panel -- you should be able to pull the panel and they'll pop out. There might be extra/different torx bolt locations, so don't manhandle it -- make sure everything is disconnected. Front doors have window switch panels that come out and disconnect from wiring. You'll also want to disconnect the speaker. Pull back the plastic and remove the two of three bolts holding the regulator -- the other you can just loosen, plus remove the other three holding the motor. There are two bolts holding the glass to the frame-- remove these and pull up the window away from the window frame section. You can now pull the crusty, rusty frame and motor out and disconnect the wiring harness to the motor. Pull the window glass up out of the way and feed the new regulator in the same way the old one came out. Hook the wiring harness and bolt the motor into place, then secure the regulator into place. The glass can now be secured with the two small bolts. (Make sure the window is in the fuzzy channel!!!!) I suggest that at this point you quickly rehook the window button to test operation of the window. If it is all good, hook up the speaker wires, reattach the plastic sheet, put the door panel back on and reattach all the bolts, screws, wires to lock and window buttons. And get ready to do it all again, because these stinkers fail with reckless abandon!!!

The most likely culprit is the serpentine belt. Check the belt tensioner first, making sure it retracts and extends with smooth pressure. Make sure the weather shields are in place under the belt, keeping rain and snow out. If all this is okay, then replace the belt. One way to check before the repair is to spray the belt with brake-kleen or something similar that will evaporate. The noise will change significantly or go away when sprayed. Nothing in a can will fix this noise permanently!

From hat I know, when you turn ignition key off and on again, the light should stay off unless it's not enough oil in the oil pan. If the oil level is full, then the sensor must be stuck at the bottom. If it is stuck, fill the oil pan to proper level and use a metal wrench tap lightly on the sensor locate on the side of the oil pan. Doing this might free up the level in the oil pan. If this don't work then you might have to replace the sensor. Good Luck. Also, turn the ket to the on possition and with in 5 seconds depress the gas pedal 3 times. Then turn key to off and then start the car the light should be off.

happened to me a few times after my fuel pump float assembly fell apart,telling me at times i had a full tank, I learned after burning out a starter to turn the key without cranking to get the fuel back through the lines,do it a few times,each time wait until the fuel pump noise stops,turn off for a few seconds and repeat,try cranking after a few times,I dont know if you can flood a fuel injected engine but so far for me it seems to work in the intrigue which we all know should have been named gremlin

I may be able to help you with your problem if you describe the problem a little more throroughly. I'm not a mechanic but I did have an issue with my windshield wipers in my 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue. I was driving in the snow on the highway when I saw a snow plow up ahead. I got into the left lane and proceeded to pass the snowplow. Just as I was passing the snowplow put the blade down on the ground and began plowing at about 40 mph. The snow flying off the truck struck my windshield. There was a lot of force there. Actually I have no idea how it didn't break the winsheild. Anyways after the blast of snow my left wiper stopped functioning and a couple miles later my right one gave out. By the time I had gotten home the only thing the wipers did was move up and down a few inches or so. I took my car to the garage to have my mechanic check it out. It turned out the plastic worm gear (spiral shaped gear similar in shape to a drill bit) connecting to the armature (rotating part of the windield wiper motor) had snapped in half. The snow had pushed the wipers in the opposite direction that they normally move. The fix was relatively cheap. I can't remember how much I payed but I know it was well under $500. The worm gear was the only part in need of replacement so the motor itself wasn't shot. That's a good thing because they are much more expensive to replace. If this wasn't your problem just describe it to me. I have a good understanding of how the windshield wipers work and the parts involved so I should be able to help you.

Have you tried pressing the cruise control button on the dash?

Problem is due to the socket which heats up and partialy melts. These sockets are very easy to change as they have pigtail leads with connectors. Oh yes these sockets are very pricey. When I replaced mine I put dielectric grease in the socket to keep moisture out which I believe is the reason the sockets go bad. Mexican or Chinese made light bulbs, probably. Even name brands (GE, Sylvania, etc) are made too cheap. I have had to buy two sets before you install one that holds up. Also remember your front turn signal bulbs are always on while driving during the day, so they get some use. The correct number is 4157 NAK, but I have used other similar types (i.e 3157) as long as they are yellow.

The computer is located just below the air filter inside the air intake box. Driver side of vehicle under hood.

The alternator is located on the front left side of the car (facing the car) Above the AC compressor.

BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING-- WAIT FOR THE ENGINE TO BE STONE COLD! FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY DUE TO STEAM AND / OR FLUID PRESSURE

It's part of the thermostat housing on the front passenger corner of the motor. Remove the hoses going to it (one goes to the radiator), unbolt it, clean the surface where it seals, and bolt the new one on, making sure the gasket is applied properly. Make sure you refill the cooling system before restarting the engine, and then purge the system of air (shouldn't be much unless you drained the whole system).

Old belt broke can you please show me the diagram for the belt placement

Check the bulbs. If a bulb is burned out the signal may blick quickly, or not at all. Check the flasher. Try left/right/emergency to see if any will work. If one works, but not the other, I'd guess a burned out bulb. Last but not least is the switch in the column has gotten dirty or corroded. Try some spray contact cleaner with an applicator straw right into the opening where the turn signal stalk comes out before you tear into it, which is a pain.

Three Auto Upholster store tried to remove the visors from my 1998 Oldsmobile without success. My visor are literally disintegrating. I can't find replacement any place. I printed the pictures to them and followed them to no avail. (?)

Please any recommendation will be highly appreciated.

You need to buy a Haynes Manual that is specific to your car. Also you can check at car shows and the people are more than willing to help.

cruise control went first. then the heater controls started working one minute and then off the next. It would come on and wouldn't shut off. Then the next item that started about the same time was the headlights flashing.

change the ignition switch and solved all problems.

Right next too the coolant resvervior remove it and you will see it. Unplig the pigtail and remove the 10 mm bolt holding it into place.

the park tab is bent. it is a thick piece of metal that must be bent back slightly toward the wiper motor with a hammer or plyers.

I assume this issue started when there was snow/ice on the windshield?
