Oldsmobile Intrigue

On my 1994 escort someone told me it was the heater core was cracked. I did not want to go through the trouble of changing it so I just connected the two hoses from the engine fire wall , bypassing the heater core. Then the puddles of antifreeze stopped soaking up the floor mats.

Taste of the water. If it is sweet, it is coolant, and you have a leaking heater core. Replace it. If it is just water, you probably have a clogged A/C condensor drain line. Crawl under the vehicle passenger side and clean it out. In rare instances, the cowl drain holes are clogged. There may be an easier answer. Open the hood and remove the piece of plastic that is below the windshield. This panel allows access to the cabin air filter. There is a thick piece of rubber along the top where the plastic panel sits. on my car, this rubber seal had fallen in, allowing rain water to enter the cabin through the air filter. Put the seal back on the metal lip, and reinstall the plastic panel. probelm solved.

The valve covers are under the plastic engine cover. Remove this plastic cover and the two valve covers are visible, one in front and the other in the back (V6 engine). They are held on by several bolts (about 8-10 I think). You will have to remove the coil pack and plug shunts first to get them out of the way. The coil pack disconnects via a clip style plug, and five or six bolts hold them onto the valve covers. Each valve cover will still be firmly attached after removal of the valve cover bolts. Carefully take a thin putty knife or similar tool to work around the valve cover gasket to separate the metal cover from the engine block. Once the cover is removed, scrape off all remaining gasket and sealant material from both the valve cover and engine block. Replace the gasket using sealant and reinstall the cover in the reverse of the above. Torque the bolts following manufacturer's specs (I don't know what the torque specs or pattern is, sorry). Usually the torque will be about 30 ft-lb and the pattern will be from the middle out, but some motors are different. You may get lucky and not have any oil leaks if you don't do it this way, but you have been warned. Why remove the covers? Oil leak? Just for fun to see what's in there?

Loose tailpipe (broken hanger or bracket), EDIT It could be the Exhaust system, as mentioned above. However, more likely, its the rear suspension. Rear struts, strut bearing plate, spring, or something along those lines. I suggest taking it to a muffler shop, and asking them to do a free inspection on it. Then you can determine if its something you want to tackle on your own, or pay someone else to do it.

The evap purge solenoid is located on the top of the engine.

The evap vent solenoid is located in the rear drivers side wheel well, attached to the charcoal canister.

The whole door panel comes off by prying the bottom edges until the plastic retention clips pop loose, then pull up on the panel to lift it off the window sill. Some of the retention clips will likely break, so have a spare pack on hand for reinstallation. The inside door handle needs to be removed first. There is also a smaller panel on the door handle for the window and mirror switches. Remove that by prying up at the rear of the panel and then lifting it up and back. Be careful, as the plastic will be brittle and the teeth at the front of the panel may break. If that happens, the panel is pretty much ruined.

If the sunroof will not close on the Alero, first check the fuse box to see if a fuse might be blown. The Alero could also need to have the hinges greased a little. Vegetable oil on a soft cloth will accomplish this.

You would have to replace the whole thing, it only about $30 its a locking pin that looks like a staple pull it out and it should come off....... easy do it your self

Do you have a Check Engine, or Service Engine Soon light on your dash? The 2 are related. Run it by your local autozone, and ask them to pull the codes for it. They can tell you if its serious or not. Or you can take it by AAMCO, I believe they have a transcheck 21 thing, and don't charge for it.

Behind the front bumper in front of the radiator, kinda to the passenger side. Easier to see with the hood open.

Remove the cylinder heads, replace the gaskets, and reassemble. (grossly simplified)

There's not really a good way to fix it otherwise.

There is a great temporary fix that you can purchase at any auto store called BARS SEALER. Just pour directly into you radiator, but follow directions exactly!

You are throwing good money after bad if you don't get the head checked. If it is warped, the new gasket will blow. Most machine shops can mill the head flat. That is really important. When you re-install, use new head bolts and torque them in the recommended pattern. Some heads require re-torquing after a number of running hours.

I had the same problem problem. Along with engine dying suddenly at stop light or when turning at very low speed. The shop that fixed the problem changed the faulty Fuel pressure Regulator(auto part stores sell it for around 60 bucks). Their explanation was that the regulator DID not release pressure so there was plenty of gas for higher RPM. But at low RPM it acted like flooding the engine (kind of like in the old carburetor days).

Anyway the problem did go away.

There's no way to reset this. If it's out of range or doesn't work at all, check wiring going from fuel sending unit inside the gas tank up to main harness. The fuel sending unit may just be worn out and need to be replaced.

Wrong oil filter. Must use OEM oil filter in Mini's. The aftermarket filters dont have the proper check valve inside.

The fuel pump is in the trunk area. Put the back of the rear seat forward so you can gain access to the carpet in the trunk. Pull the carpet back from the seat area and you will see a access panel with screws holding it in place. Remove the screws and pull the pump out and replace it with the new pump. ALWAYS DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FIRST!!!!

Remember the serpentine belt has ribs on only one side, the ribs face AWAY from the two guide pulleys and TOWARD the pulleys on the Alternator, Compressor, Crank, Cam and Tensioner. You should tell by the pulley being smooth or ribbed as needed.

it has 4 sensors two before cat and two after

It's not fused separately - it's on the same circuit as the identification lights. If it's not working, and changing the bulb hasn't corrected the issue, then you have either a faulty light or faulty wiring.

In my 2002 Intrigue, the cabin filter is under the black plastic covering the wiper mechanics on the passenger side. It has been a while, but the wiper arm has to be removed and the plastic plate going across has to be raised slightly to reach the filter.

The 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue gets an estimated 19 mpg in the city. The vehicle gets an estimated 30 mpg highway mileage.

It is housed inside the box where the air filter is. very easy to get to just handle with care.

This is a quick answer. Its above the starter going into the side of the block. (front side of the engine) Disconnect the battery. Remove the starter. Remove the wore plug into the sensor. The sensor has 1 bolt holding it in. Remove the bolt, you may have to wiggle the sensor at the base a bit as you pull it out. Replace, and make sure it is pushed in all of the way. Replace the bolt, wire plug, starter, reconnect the battery. If you have ever removed or replaced a starter this is cake, that is the hardest part of the job. Rich

Right in front of the ac condenser. Open the hood look down into the bumper area.

There is a plastic air dam small hole with a wire going into it on the passengers side.

It is on the back side of that.

I would check your Ignition Module. That's the first place to look.

The 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue coil pack is located on the firewall, in the engine compartment. The coil pack will be on the passenger side of the firewall.
