Can volts kill a human?

Current is correct. Current is the flow of electrons, and it is this flow that is disruptive to the human body.

Another term for voltage is "potential," which is helpful to remember. Voltage is the measure of potential for current to flow. If the potential is small, the current will not flow so much, all other things being equal. By the same token, a large potential can create a large flow. This is why "high voltage" is considered dangerous -- it represents a large potential for current to flow. For current to flow, however, a circuit must be created to make a path for the electrons. If you make yourself part of this circuit, ZAP!

The amount of current that flows in a circuit is proportional to the potential, and inversely proportional to the resistance of the circuit:

Current = Potential / Resistance (often written I = V / R )

A useful analogy is to think of water (electrons) in a pipe (circuit). When the faucet is shut (like a switch in the "off" position), no water flows (current). But there is potential for water to flow because pressure (voltage) is exerted on one side. If you were a tiny person in the pipe (in a pressure suit with a breathing apparatus!) nothing bad would happen. The fact that there is pressure in the pipe means nothing when there is no water flowing. Now, open the faucet and let the current flow. The flow rate is greater when the upstream pressure is higher, but it is limited by the shape and size (resistance) of the pipe. If you were still hanging around inside the pipe, you would feel the effect of the water flowing by you. If this flow is very large, you could be torn apart. That is the analogy of being electrocuted.

Manvith Says:

Actually, voltage is the electric potential, or potential energy for each electron, not potential energy. Current is rate at which the electrons flow. In order to see what effect it would have on a person, think of it like this: if you have high current and low voltage, then the electrons would not have that much energy, but there would be a lot of them flowing into your body because the current is high. But, if the voltage is high and the current is low, then the electrons would carry more energy, but there would not be many of them flowing into your body because the current is low. Looking at it this way, current and voltage should be equally deadly, but in real life current is more life-threatening. This is because your heart uses electrical impulses to control how fast your heart beats and if you get a few high voltage electrons, it won't really do much to your heart beat, but getting a lot of them at low voltages would.

Vignesh Says

Current is Directly proportional to Voltage & vice versa

Shock depends on the resistance of the body.

If the voltage is 1000V and your body have infinity resistance(current=voltage/Resistance(infinity)=zero - no current flow in the body), it wont affect you.

If the voltage is 1V and your body have 0.001 OHM resistance (current=voltage/Resistance(0.001)=1000 amps current flow in the body), it will affect you.(Think.. why coin cell battery having very low voltage will shock your tongue, becoz tongue has very low resistance)

Voltage is not another term for potential. Voltage is another term for potential difference!

How can you be safe from an Earthquake?

When you feel the ground vibrating, quickly go under a strong table. If there are no tables around, go into the door frame of a door. It is the strongest part of the door. However, you can also snatch a pillow and cover your head if none of these things are around. The pillow will protect you from glass and other light, sharp objects. Just remember, always cover your face and head!

What is the best wood to burn in a wood heater?

Hardwoods such as oak, maple, and birch are generally considered the best wood for burning in a wood heater. They burn hotter and longer than softwoods like pine or spruce, producing more heat and less creosote buildup in the chimney. It's important to use seasoned firewood that has been dried for at least six months to ensure efficient burning and reduce smoke.

How can you prepare for tsunamis?

You should take your valuables (passports, cash, jewellery etc.) with you, together with foods, drinks (water), clothes, torchlights etc. in a bag or luggage. Evacuate to higher ground immediately when the warnings are given.

Can you fool a motion detector?

Motion detectors are typically sensitive to changes in infrared radiation or movement in their field of view. While it may be possible to fool them temporarily by covering them or moving slowly, they are designed to detect motion accurately. It's best to adhere to their intended use for security or automation purposes.

Where can you find a manuel for utilitech motion light model 75002b?

You can try looking for the manual on the manufacturer's website or contact their customer service for assistance. You may also find the manual by searching online on websites that offer user manuals for various products.

What did the first smoke detector look like?

The first smoke detector was invented in 1890 and used a simple design with a bent bellows chamber filled with air that would expand when smoke entered. This expansion would trigger a lever mechanism to sound an alarm. It was a basic system with limited effectiveness compared to modern smoke detectors.

In science labs what do you use the small sand bucket for?

The small sand bucket in a science lab is typically used for extinguishing fires. It contains sand which can be used to smother small fires by cutting off the oxygen supply. It is a safety measure in case of emergencies involving flammable materials.

What is the danger of running a lamp cord wire inside a wall?

Wires and cables are all tested and approved for certain locations by CSA or UL testing laboratories. These products are tested to destruction to see what the most extreme conditions that the product can operate under. Home construction cables are designed by the manufacturer to used in concealed areas such as in walls. With proper support stapling within the wall, the extra protection of the insulation and outer sheaths of the cable makes this possible. Lamp cord is designed to be exposed and is strictly designed to bring a voltage source from the wall receptacle to the lamp. Since lamp cord has a small ampacity, applying a large current to it could heat its insulation to a high enough temperature that the insulation could become brittle and break off. This would lead to a short circuit within the wall and if close to combustible material in the wall a fire could start. Use the correct conductors for the electrical projects that you plan to do.

Why are you getting a shock from the wall when the roof leaks?

Well, I'm no expert, but I'd say you most likely have a serious problem. Water and electricity do not mix. You may have a naked wire that's electrifying the wall when it gets wet. I would recommend getting it looked at right away, before it becomes a major problem.

How do you change a fluorescent bulb?

Ok I bought an apartment with a recessed light fixture in the shower.

The bulb blew out and its been driving me nuts trying to figure out how to fix it, but I finally figured it out.

The lens cover sits absolutely flush against the ceiling. I put my fingernails beneath the rim of cover (around the outside of the fixture between it and the ceiling) and pulled straight down as hard as I could. I thought I was going to pul the entire fixture out of the ceiling, but instead, the lens cover finally lowered. It was held on by a pair of U-shaped springy wires that put pressure on the inside of the lighting fixture and holds it in place.

So pretty much, to remove the lens cover, I had to pry it off. Then once I changed the bulb, I simply pushed the cover back in place

Can you put a cabinet over stove?

No, it is not recommended to put a cabinet directly over a stove because of safety concerns. The heat from the stove could damage the cabinet and pose a fire hazard. It is important to maintain proper safety clearance between the stove and any cabinets or combustible materials.

How do you access a high ceiling fan to change bulb when it is in a dual stairwell?

There are extension poles for just this purpose available at lowes and home depot. When those poles will not work for whatever reason the only thing left to do is to get up there and change the bulb, fan, or fixture whichever the case may be.

One ladder that is most useful is a 21' A frame ladder from Little Giant. It conforms to meet the demands of many interior spaces and depending on the job can be much better than transporting, setting up, and then disassembling scaffolding to reach high out or reach spaces. It is still quite large and heavy but it takes a two man crew to deal with it.

Formula for watts and amps?

power in watts = voltage in volts x current in amps. or power in watts = current in amps x (resistance in ohms) squared i think what you meant was power in watts =(current in amps)squared x resistance in ohms

What happens when a 2A 220 volt appliance is plugged into a 110 volt?

Plugging a 2A 220V appliance into a 110V outlet may cause the appliance to not function properly or not turn on at all. The lower voltage can potentially damage the appliance's internal components, so it is not recommended to plug it in without a voltage converter.

How much explosive force is in a 20 pound propane tank?

A propane tank by itself has no explosive force. Propane will only burn when mixed with oxygen. However you can create what they call a BLEVE from a propane tank (boiling liquid expanding vapor explosion). Basically you would heat up the propane tank (example house on fire, etc) and a reaction would occur causeing the tank to burst. There are other ways to do it but it gets really technical. Research BLEVE and you will fand many references about blast effects and fireball radius, frag radius etc. The following link gives you safe separation distances:

Can you get shocked from peeing are electric fence?

Yes, it is possible to get shocked while peeing on an electric fence because the urine can create a path for electricity to flow through your body. It is important to avoid contact with electric fences or any other electrical sources while urinating to prevent the risk of injury.

What should an asexual female loner do if she feels trapped in her home because men sexually harass her every time she travels to do important things?

Men and women are obviously different. The biggest difference is communication. Men do not understand that hooting and hollering does not make a woman feel complimented, it's annoying. If you are not cosmetically challenged, consider yourself lucky.

But ask yourself, are you really being harassed or are you lacking self esteem and when men notice you, it makes you feel extremely uncomfortable?

I think I understand what you are saying, but if you are at the point of not being able to leave your home because you do not want the attention you are getting, it is an internal problem.

It sounds like a counselor would be your best advisory in this case. Not all men are harassing you. Men do not communicate the same way women do, and if you are unable to function on a daily basis due to these unwelcoming compliments, I strongly suggest you seek professional help.

Everyone is entitled to live freely. If you feel so trapped that you can not function, you need to look inside yourself and ask why?

I say I understand because I have been told I am pretty. I do not see that. I am ok with it. I feel "spongebob cute". That's it..

So, when I hear the "hootin' and hollerin'", I giggle and laugh. I don't see it, but if that's the way men do, I can't change their perspective. It's mine I have to work on. So, the best way to deal with it, and to do what I have to every day is to laugh.

Ignore it.

If it is TRUE harassment, call the police and make a report. If it's just men noticing how beautiful you are, it should make you feel good. It has nothing to do with your sexuality. It's cosmetic.

I hate when people look at me. I really do. So, I have learned to walk with my head held high and look straight forward. I will go into the store and get what I need, ignoring what I hear and tune it out. If I catch someone's eye, I will politely say hello, then continue walking on. I had to make myself learn to do that. And it says so much about you, when you don't walk looking at the ground. Look straight forward and tell yourself you have a job to do (whether it's going to the post office, or grocery store, or even taking your car to the dealership where you know there are herds of men) but it's the way you present yourself and the react - or don't react.

It's your life.. Don't let anyone else control it.. especially strangers.. (and even more especially - men.. ). You deserve to be happy, but it comes from inside.. not the outside..

I have found I get more attention when I don't wear make up. That is the funniest thing I have ever heard. But, to each their own.

So, pretty woman, try to think of them as giving you compliments but if it's actually interrupting your life, please seek professional help. No one ever deserves to feel trapped in their own home, for fear of being noticed.

Get help if you feel you can't accomplish daily tasks, because what you think may not be reality. It may be how you feel about yourself, and what you think others are doing, when in truth, it's your own lack of self confidence and self esteem that trap you.. We are are own worst enemy.

Learn to be your own best friend and then you might see the world in a different way.. But I feel 99% confident it's the way you are perceive things, than the way it really is..

Good luck..

Are humans flammable?

Yes, humans can be flammable. The human body is mostly water, however, so it takes a very high temperature fire to convert all that water to steam and then to ignite the remaining tissue.

We are sometimes subject to (heretofore unexplained) spontaneous combustion. See the related link listed below for more information:

How would you react if someone threatened you with violence?

Personally, I would stand my ground and let God handle it. But that is up to the individual. The last time someone tried to hurt me an angel violently tured him around and sent him on his way. That was a sight. The Lord has protected me all my life so I don't worry about this kind of thing happening to me. If you are close to God as he wants you to be in His way through Jesus His son, you don't have to worry about this. If not, you're on your own.

How many Americans are injured by toilets each year?
