Not only are we loosing a beautiful animal, but also, their prey will be favorable, causing more animals to come and adapt to the cold winter.

Most sources indicate that the long, coarse guard hairs, which protect the plush thick undercoat, are hollow and transparent. The thinner hairs of the undercoat are not hollow, but they, like the guard hairs, are colorless.

The hair of a Polar Bear looks white because the air spaces in each hair scatter light of all colors. The color white becomes visible to our eyes when an object reflects back all of the visible wavelengths of light, rather than absorbing some of the wavelengths.

Interestingly, underneath all that fur, a polar bear's skin is actually black.

Polar Bears in fact need sunlight to keep warm although they have 2 layers of skin

they respond to stimuli in many different forms like when a cub gets cold the mother puts the cub on her stomach and wraps her hind legs around the cub. Also the black bear goes into torpor when it is in the winter and it is semi aware of its surroundings and is a little groggy, the difference t in hibernation the bear would sleep all winter. It responds to stimuli like any other animal would. Sleeps when it is tired, eats when it is hungry, drinks when it is thirsty. To conclude these are a few examples of how a black bear responds to stimuli.

A polar bear can decapitate an armed human in a single swipe. A lynx is much smaller than a human, so they would have no problem killing lynxes.

There is no definitive source of, data empirical or otherwise, to say which sub-species, Polar or Kodiak is largest. In general and on average most observers agree that the polar bear is longer (taller) while similar observations suggest that the Kodiak bear weighs more.

Most observations also agree that the largest Kodiak and Polar bears (the males) can reach a height of approximately 12 feet and a weight of about 2,200 pounds. We may never know which bear reached the largest size due to over-hunting in the 20th century and more recent climate change each affecting immediate population sizes, habitat and migratory range.

bears vary greatly in size. during different months bears can double their weight. during winter most bears add about 4 to 5inches of fur on their withers adding to their height. bears can go from being small to immensely large. the polar bear is on average the largest bear, weighs about 1500lbs when at its heaviest, stands 4ft5 at the shoulder and can raise itself 10ft on hind legs. this is average. Kodiak bears come in second, weighing about 1200lbs at their heaviest, stand about 4ft5 and on hind legs are about 9ft. kamchatka bears are third, 4ft1 at the shoulder, weigh 900lbs for large males, stand 8ft6 on rear legs. ussuri brown bear or the amur brown bear weighs and measures about the same as the kamchatka but is typically slightly lighter. Siberian brown bears are 5th and are about 600lbs, just under 4ft at the shoulder and stand about 7ft at their maximum. grizzlies are not actually as big as many people depict them. at the shoulder they are 3ft3, weigh 500lbs and are 6ft6 on hind legs. eurasian brown bears are usually the same as grizzlies. syrian brown bears are very small. 3ft at the shoulder and weigh as little as 250lbs, and are 6ft on hind legs.

it is interesting to note that bears from Asia are actually far more aggressive than American and European bears. kodiaks, kamchatka polar bears are actually timid bears and will avoid man and other competition generally. amur browns are highly aggressive and come into competition with Siberian tigers. grizzlies despite popular belief will avoid humans and other conflicts. the same applies with the syrian bear. eurasians have been known to be very aggressive, particularly the bears from their Asian habitat.

Both species come from the same genus, being Ursa. Both have the same characteristics of any bear: long claws, a sensitive nose that can smell food from miles away, an appetite for anything they come across be it plant or animal depending on the season, sexual reproduction where the sow produces one to three cubs at a time, and can be found in northern climates (the polar bear more than the grizzly).

The polar bear is found in the Arctic Circle and the nearby islands. They can be found in good numbers in Alaska, Norway, Denmark, Russia and Canada. There are smaller populations in the surrounding regions near the Arctic pole. They prefer the Cold Icy areas of the Arctic and thrive in areas where the human intervention is minimal. They are found in good numbers in areas where their primary prey, the Seals mate and nest.
