Where is the relay for the rear deck lid for an 88 fiero?
There isn't one, the switch powers it directly
How do you replace a speedometer cable for a 1988 Pontiac FieroV4 L2.5?
Fiero does not use a speedo cable
There is an electronic sensor mounted on top of the transmission that both the engine computer and the speedo in the dash read to get the speed.
How do you replace the fuel pump on a 1986 Pontiac Fiero 2.5?
All fiero fuel pumps are electrical and housed inside the fuel tank. It requires you jack up the car and completely drop the fuel tank. The fuel level gauge sensor can also be damaged if you are not careful. Due to the explosive nature of gasoline I had mine replaced at a local shop for under $200.
You may want to check the fuel pump relay and fuel filter before replacing the fuel pump.
Remove brake caliper on an 1984 fiero?
This is a safety critical system on your car, you need to have the basic back ground knowlege to perform this task. The answer below is geared toward such a person on purpose.
The front calipers are nothing special, remove the bolts.
The rear calipers can be a fight, undo the park brake cable first, the adjuster is under the rear of the car, and the cables get disconected at the caliper park brake arms. There are little tangs that hold the cable into the bracket, I have a small blunt chisel and hamer I release these with. The pistons cant be pried in as the piston must be turned toget it to retract. You may have to sand the lip off the rotor to get the caliper off the rotor. Retained the same as the front with two bolts.
How do you set idle on 1986 fiero gt?
Please read entire answer!
You don't adjust the idle, the computer does this for you.
If it will not idle down, usually not below 1500 rpm, you very likely have a cracked or broken "EGR" tube. This tube runs from the exhaust pipe from the EGR valve through a fabric insulating cover under the intake manifold. It will be cracked under the fabric cover.
I just blocked mine at both ends with metal plates, this is illegal in many places!
"The Fiero Store", an on-line supplier, has replacements.
If this is not your issue you will need to have your vehicle scanned with a scanner that will show actual sensor and computer activity.
Where is the emc on a 88 GT Fiero?
Behind the "glove box" in the arm rest between the seats, on the rear fire wall. Unbolt the armrest and you can access the ECM.
You have to remove both the right tire and the flexible skirting to get at the lower water pump bolts. When removing the rubber skirting I ran into a problem where one of the retainers wouldn't come out. It was the Philips screw - expanding type. I had to just rip it out with a pair of long nose pliers - not that this is difficult. But you can't just pop down to the hardware store to pick up a replacement. I also had to remove the battery side cover to be able to fit a socket/torque wrench along side the water pump. The job was done in an evening - probably around 3-4 hours of work. The biggest pain was the fiberglass insulation between the body and the engine. Wear a long sleeved shirt or you will be feeling the fiberglass for a day or so later!
Can you fit a short block Chevy into my 89 fiero 2.8 v6?
Short block means the engine has no cylinder heads or intake
This will make the job easier, but the engine needs these components.
The trans has to be relocated, the drive shafts changed, the water pump on the engine will need to be remote mounted and a special adapter kit and harmonic balancer fited for the small block chev conversion.
The last one I did took about 100 hours.
Good Luck
You can get your 86 fiero to start but it wont stay running?
Check the fuel pressure on the Fiero to start with. It sounds like it could be starving for fuel.
It could either be a leaking vacuum line, EGR Valve or I believe its a idle position sensor on the throttle body. If you're looking for a vacuum leak, spray some WD-40 around the vacuum lines till the engine RPM increases. You'll know right away. If it is a vacuum leak it could also be where the intake manifold joins the engine. In either case it is not a good idea to drive it as it could ruin your engine.
Can a oil pressure sending unit cause a 1984 Pontiac fiero from getting fire to the spark plugs?
no but it can stop the fuel pump from running.
i have a 85 fiero gt. i had the same problem. the coolant would boil out of the coolant tank. turns out the thermostat was bad. it cost me 20 dollars at autozone and was easy to replace. hope this helps
Where is the 1 cyl on an 1984 Fiero dist cap?
The firing order on a 2.5 Pontiac motor is 1-3-4-2, 1 being in front. The chilton book shows the firing order and the wire placement on the dist cap. #1 is at 10 oclock.
Would anyone have a diagram for the cooling system hoses of a 1986 Pontiac fiero?
Try the Fiero Stor online for this
when you look to your engine from the rear of the car, look to your cap distributer as a clock. starting from 9 to 12 to 3 to 6. the cylinders are number from the right to the left (from the strap to the trans.) the firing order is 1-3-4-2 starting from 9h and turning clockwise. so it means that at 9h the is connect to the cylinder #1, the 12h to the cylinder #3 and so.
Will the driv e axles on an 84 Fiero 4 sp fit in a turbo trans?
No. Different connectors, different lengths
The fuel pump the fiero uses is used on many other GM cars and trucks. It is generally reliable.
Fuel pumps can fail prematurely because
1. They have been subjected to running out of gas (Very hard on a pump)
2. The baffles in the tank have broken loose and are getting into the fuel pump
3. There is some other foreign objects in the tank (sand)
4. The intake filter screen is missing on the fuel pump
