What do the different warning symbols stand for on a Pontiac sunfire lost your owners manual?
The red water symbol is an indication that the water is overheating. The red battery symbol is a indication the charging system is not working.
check and see if ur e-fan is working The fact that it is heating up when you stop indicates that there is not enough air flow through the radiator to provide proper cooling. The likely culprits are related to the electric radiator fan. 1. Temperature sensor/switch. 2. Electrical connectors. 3. Fan motor.
What causes Trouble code multiple cylinder misfire in 1998 Pontiac sunfire?
This could mean that you have a bad/fouled plug or plugs, bad plug wires, bad coil packs, a misbehaving fuel injector, or a scad of other things.
I'd try new plugs and wires first. It's the cheapest fix and maybe the most likely answer.
I wonder though. It seems that I've seen codes that tell you exactly which cylinders
are not firing correctly. Your code seems to indicate more than one cylinder. That still points
to the things I mentioned above, but also strengthens the coil pack theory, as they feed more than one plug.

If your getting a code 0300 which is what i got. After changing just about everthing it turned out to be the coil pack housing...all went back to normal.$ 43.99 at autozone
Why does nothing happen when you step on the gas?
You really need to give us a little more information. I'm presuming that the car starts OK, right? When you press on the accelerator, with the car in neutral or park, does the engine rev up? Is your transmission auto or manual? If the engine revs up, does the car not move when you put it in gear and/or let the clutch out? Inquiring minds want to know! FriPilot
How do you remove the stereo in a Sunfire?
This is a copy of a post from some time ago. It's specific to my '96, but might help you figure out what you need to to.
Good Luck!
Let's see. First, open the glove box door. You can make it drop all the way down by flexing the little plastic piece that stops it from dropping, to the side. This gives you room to work. On the left side of the glovebox face, you will see a screw or two that hold the piece of molding around the radio on. Remove those screws and pull off the molding. Once the molding is off, you'll see a screw on each side of the radio, which holds the radio bracket to the dash. Take those out, then slide the radio forward. There is a connector which needs to be carefully removed from the back of the radio. The antenna needs to be unplugged too. Then the radio will slide right out. Installation is the reverse. FriPilot
Where is the reverse lights switch on 2002?
You didn't state weather it was an Automatic or Manual transmission. Well any way they are both on the transmission. Manual transmission has a separate switch for the backup lights the automatic is built into the neutral safety switch on the transmission. Automatic switch is about $50.00. Manual switch is about $10.00. Hope you have a manual it is a lot cheaper.
How do you remove the cooling fan assembly in a 2000 Impala with 3.8L?
It appears that you will have to remove both front motor mounts in order to make room to lift out the entire dual fan assembly. After that either replace entire assembly or replace both motors. I would be darned sure that the fan motors are the problem before getting into all that. The front mounts are torque mounts they do not hold the engine from falling out of the car they prevent rotation of the motor which is good in this case as it gives you more space Good Luck!
How do you remove fuel pump from Pontiac Sunfire?
The fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank.
You'll have to drain the fuel and drop
the tank to get at the pump.
you prolly need a new window motor... check a local junkyard.
Why my ac wont start on Sunfire?
What would cause a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire to not start?
Before you go out and spend money on a new battery. Check this do you have headlights? Are they very dim? Do you hear a clicking sound when the key is turned? Get a boost from someone to see if it will start. If it does then. Put your battery on over night charge (trickle charge). If you find you are still having problems then look into buying a new battery (Most auto stores will load check ur battery for free) I just dumped my battery for just this problem and bot a Motormaster Eliminator (which according to ctc doesn't fit my carrier - its does just a little tighter fix)
Where is the flasher relay on a 2001 Pontiac Sunfire?
The module has mounting hardware on it; just pull it free from the chassis.
Then simply pull the module out of the socket. I found that the socket is keyed so the module can only go in one way.
Since I was using a generic unit w/o the factory mounting, I taped the unit and the socket to a nearby wiring harness. Make sure you leave room for the panel to go back and don't just let it dangle, as it will work its way back to the brake pedal and could cause a jam.
Then twist the black panel back into place replace the screw and you are golden.
Rear brakes grab more than front and even stick sometimes on your 1996 Pontiac sunfire?
There could be several reasons. The ones that come to mind are;
Your front brakes are shot and the rears are doing all the work. This probably means it's time for a 4 wheel brake job.
The rear brakes are shot and have damaged the drums. This can make them stick sometimes.
The rear calipers are old or damaged and need to be replaced.
The upshot here is that you have a brake problem. Brake problems are a bad thing. If I were you, I'd get the car to my mechanic or a brake shop as soon as is possible. This could develop into a serious situation. PLEASE! Take this seriously!
Where is iol pump located sunfire 1998?
its located on the side of dat block it has another part dat goes with it dat makes oil float though the oil pan better.
Depending on the driving conditions, the pads may be worn again. I have seen the small metal plates on the pads (wear indicators) begin to contact the rotor while there is still sufficient pad material to last a while longer. I have bent these wear indicators away from the rotor to prevent the noise, not to mention stopping them from gouging your rotors, which they will do! Only bend the wear indicators until they align with some pad still below the contact edge. I would recommend replacing the pads not too long after doing this.
Another possibility is the brake system may need bleeding.
also if the grinding is coming from the rear brakes,it may be your brake cylinders leaking, possibility,of uneven or unneccecary wear on pads could be,seized caliper pins or the piston in the caliper may be seized,i would i myself would not bend the wear indicators,as some pads are held together with rivots, the indicators are there for a reason, take alook at your rotors also as they be worn, maybe not from the outside but look on the inside, rear drums could also be warped,my suggestion, take it to a mechanic,as it's your life and others in your hands when it comes to stopping your vehicleSchrader valve where is it on2002 Sunfire?
This thread is actually very old but i'm looking good piece of information about Schrader Valve because this is the main topics of my assignment.
I wrote a lot of blogs articles but in 1 article i found very valueable information specifically related ot Schrader valve. Anyone who looking to get fresh content about Schrader Valve then this blog post is useful.

Use either an analog VOM or a lab scope set for either Volts or Ohms to look for a smooth sweep as you slowly move the throttle from open to closed several times. Any jumpiness indicates a bad sensor. Voltage should read at spec for minimum and maximum at WOT and closed throttle, but any variation means little until you check for reference voltage and ground.
A digital voltmeter, ohmmeter, or multimeter is worthless for this purpose as the resolution will not catch a problem. A graphing multimeter is similarly not usable.
Where is the water pump located on a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire?
More: Unless the 98 is much different from my 96, the water pump has nothing to do with the timing belt. Also, there is no need to remove an engine mount bolt.
You should be able to loosen the belt tensioner enough to get the belt on and off the pump pulley.
What is the wheel bolt pattern on a 97 Sunfire?
You're asking how to properly tighten a wheel after taking it off and putting it back on?
In all cases, just alternate bolts. Tighten every other one a bit at a time. On four bolt wheels, tighten one a bit, than do the one across from it. Then do the same thing to the other two bolts. Rinse, repeat until tight.

I'm not sure about newer Sunfires - but the information above is incorrect regarding older models. I replaced the bulbs on my instrument cluster without opening or compromising it on my 99 Sunfire.
You have to remove the dashboard, then remove the instrument cluster. On the back of the cluster, you'll find that you can unscrew the bulbs from the back and replace them.

How do you remove the windshield wiper arm on 1996 Pontiac sunfire?
Remove the plastic covers off the wiper arm retaining nuts.
Remove the wiper arm nuts with a 13mm socket.
Twist and pull with your finger tips and finger nails at the base of the small rubber squirt tubing off the hard plastic squirt delivery tubes.
You may have to yard up and down on the wiper arms pretty hard to get them loose from their tapered shafts. Don't be a mindless gorilla but be brave and keep at it. They will come loose.
What does the red light that has an arrow pointing down inside a rectangle mean on a 1997 sun fire?
