How do you replace a water pump for a 2001 Pontiac Sunfire?
Seriously, this is what I, for one, would consider a fairly challenging job at least at my skill/determination level. I've replaced them before, though not on a Sunfire, and once you can get at the pump, it's pretty straightforward. On the Sunfire, because of the sideways engine, there's not a whole lot of room to work. You'll have to pull the serpentine belt, (consisder replacing while it's off) locate the pump, maybe drain the cooling system before removing the hoses, pull the pump off, clean up the mating surface on the engine, probably use some RTV or similar gasket sealer and replace the pump. Sound easy? It really isn't too too bad, but I wouldn't even attempt it without a Chilton or Haynes manual. You really need to know the exact order in which to do things, or this job could become really painful.
I don't know if that helps or not. If you can, get a friend to lend a hand when you do it. Morale support is worth it's weight in beer. OR.... have a good local mechanic do it.
Good luck!

Plus if its a 2.4 litre i would highly recommend a mechanic to do the job if u don't know how to time the motor cause u have to pull the timing chain off to change it.
My guess would be the cowl drains are plugged up with debris. Remove the wiper arm assemblies and the cowl panels/screens and clean out the drains.

Oil leaking from 1997 pontiac sunfire engine?
To hunt for the leak, pick up some engine degreaser and clean the engine. This makes it much easier to spot new oil on the block. You can also lay some newspaper under the car and watch for drips. Sometimes you can determine where they come from by lining up the drips with whatever is above.
As a matter of course, check tightness of oil pan bolts, the drain plug and the oil filter. Tighten any suspicious looking nuts or bolts too.

What causes a 2003 Sunfire engine to keep dying when the battery is not dead?
Have you cheked your alternator? The battery only starts the car and runs electrical components such as your radio and A/C and lights. The alternator is the generator that keeps the engine running once it has been started.
Mine was the fuel pump went out
Where is the thermostat located for 2003 Pontiac Sunfire?
We get lots of questions about thermostats. Apparently, there are a couple of locations. If you look at the ends of the radiator hoses, you might find a stamped message saying something to the effect of "thermostat not here". In that case, it's probably at the engine end of the other hose. Once you find it, I suggest pulling it out and taking it with you to the parts house when you buy the replacement. This is to make very sure you have the correct part.
Why does fan control on a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire work only on high?

How long would it take to replace the power steering hose on a 1997 sunfire?
The high pressure hose: not too long, maybe an hour or less. Unscrew it from the pump, and then you'll need to get a long wrench extension and a crows foot. Then find the other end of the hose and unscrew it with your crows foot. Then install the new hose with the same tools.
Rubber hose: a few minutes. Loosen the clamp on both ends of the hose, take it out, put the new hose on and tighten the clamps up.
The metal return line that goes under your car: a couple hours. You'll have to loosen the clamp on the rubber hose, then unscrew the metal line(it's next to the high pressure hose). You're also gonna use the crows foot for the metal line. And if it's too warped and ground up(like mine) you will have to cut the metal line next to where you unscrew it and try to get a socket on it.
Good luck!
Replaced heater control on 2000 Pontiac sunfire. rear window defroster still inop.?
Those danged rear window defrosters are wonderful when they work. They are pretty fragile and if just one of the little wires in the glass becomes damaged, you're done.
Try opening the trunk and if you have to, climb inside. There has to be an electrical connection in there which goes to the defroster grid. It might have come loose. Or, it might have dirty contacts. Shoot it with a little contact cleaner or WD-40 and try it again.
If you can indeed get at that connection in the trunk, try turning on the defroster switch and check for voltage at the connectors with a voltmeter. If you have voltage there but the defroster still doesn't work, it points to a problem in the glass. If you have NO voltage there, it would point toward the cabin and the defroster switch or the wiring from the cabin to the trunk.
Buzzing noise from daytime running light?
Well, this is certainly among the strangest questions I've seen here.
Is the buzzing from the headlight it's self, or is the noise inside the cabin?

Can you fit a 3800 in a 99 Sunfire?
That's the 3.8 liter V6 isn't it?
It MIGHT be possible to shoehorn that motor into
a Sunfire, but not without a lot of fabrication. It
wouldn't be a job for a novice.
Sure would be nice, though! Talk about hauling ass!
Your fuel gauge doesnt work on your 99 Pontiac sunfire?
Chances are you need a new fuel level sending unit. This is located on the fuel pump assembly inside the gas tank. Replacement requires removing the gas tank from the car and replacing the whole fuel pump/sending unit assembly as a whole. These are usually available from your local auto parts store, but they are not cheap. Usually around $300

Can a 1997chevy cavalier motor fit in a 1997 Pontiac sunfire car?

How do you remove the ignition switch from a 1997 Pontiac Sunfire SE with no tilt steering?
There is a recall on '97 sunfires ignition switches. My car wouldn't start and after trying it several times smoke started coming from the ignition column. they will install a relay switch w/ your ignition switch to convert high voltage away from it. If it doesn't start and you continually try it or hold it back too long it will start to burn as mine did A Pontiac dealership fixed it for free but I had to fight them on the towing costs. I would do a search on the recall or call a Pontiac/GM dealership and they can tell you if it goes towards yours... you!
Also check for other recalls such as the PCM recall.
