What is the gas mileage for an 01 Pontiac Sunfire?

For what it's worth, my '96 with the small OHV engine and over 200,000 miles on the odometer still gets between 29 and 31 MPG. I would sort of expect that your newer, presumably lower mileage car, would do that well, or better, if it's been maintained well and has no major problems.

Why does the 1997 Pontiac Sunfire not have a transmission dipstick?

Is it a Stadard Trans? If so, Then it doesn't need one. It has a 2 plug on the side of it - one plug to check it for 80wt. gear oil - one to drain it out omly if need be. You should only have to have it checked every 10,000 miles.

If it's an Automatic Trans, Then it's the RED handle at the back-right side of the engine.

Adjust a loose trunk lid on a 2002 sunfire?

By loose, do you mean that the trunk lid won't close snugly?
My '96 has two rubber "feet" mounted on the body. These sort of cushion the trunk lid when it's closed. They are adjustable by screwing them in or out. If you have them on your car, you might try messin' with them. If one or both are missing, you can probably find them in a junk yard. That reminds me, I have one missing on my car. I adjusted the other one and now my trunk lid at least closes fairly dependably.

How do you replace the headlight bulb located on a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire?

I just changed the headlights on my 1999 Sunfire.

There is a splash guard that goes over the very front of the inside of the car. Holding the guard down are some plugs (they're like wall anchors for hanging pictures in that they expand when they go into the hole to keep everything secure). Just stick a screwdriver under them and pop them out. Pull up the splash guard. You should see two large bolts right above where the headlight is. Remove those bolts, and the headlight assembly should come out. Once you get that part out, all you need to do is pull the old bulb out, carefully put the new one in, and reassemble.

I hope my experience was similar enough to help.

What type of antifreeze does a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire use?

I asked this question of a local radiator shop awhile back. The answer was, to use

antifreeze of the same color that is currently in the car.

My car is a '96 with 200,000 miles on the OD. In that case, they said

use anything that's available. Right now, I'm using PEAK, diluted 50/50

with water.

Where do the spark plugs connect on a 1996 Pontiac sunfire 2.4L?

Follow the spark plug wires from the plugs back. I imagine that most of those engines are very similar and the wires go to a coil pack on the back side of the engine. If you pick up a Haynes or Chilton manual, all will be revealed.

Does changing spark plug wires do anything?

Yes, particularly if they are old and cracked.

New wires will deliver a better spark to the plugs.

Where is the day light switch on a 1995 Sunfire?

I'm guessing that you want to be able to turn off the daytime running lights on your car.

As far as I know, there is no such switch on the Sunfire. The daytime running lights are

on whenever the car is running and is in gear.

What can you do to make the trac off light come off on a 2001 Pontiac sunfire?

When it says, "low trac" that just means you are on very grassy ground, or on ice or snow... It's proven that there's nothing to worry about. Just pray for better weather if it's snow.

Will a fender off a 1996 sunfire fit on a 1999 sunfire?

GM produced the Pontiac Sunfire from 1995-2005. The " J " platform chassis remained the same throughout those years of production. All fenders, doors, hoods bumpers and trunk were interchangeable.

In essence a 1995 could be completely retrofitted with parts from a 2005 including interior.

Important note: Cavalier parts from those years were also interchangeable in exception to fenders, hood, and bumpers.

Why do you hear a knocking sound when you drive your 96 Sunfire but when you put the clutch in its fine?

If memory serves, I think that you'll find that the throwout bearing in

the clutch is failing. I'd run it by a transmission shop and have them

give a listen.

Why does your car rattle really hard when you apply the foot break and come to stop as well as when you first pull out of a stop I hit a big bump a few days ago and that is when it started.?

It sounds like you've bent or broken something in the suspension.

I'd get the car into a front end alignment shop ASAP as this could

be a safety issue.

I brought it back to the garage .. it turns out they over looked the fact that the "block" had been pushed out of position and when I idled, it vibrated against the oil pan. causing all that "jackhammer"-like noise ....

thanks so much for your help --- the mechanic had originally told me it was just my struts, but I knew that couldn't be right :)

Why splugs become wet when trying to start engine on 1999 sunfire?

Wet where? On the outside? Or are you pulling the plugs out for examination when the car won't start?

If they're wet on the outside, is the liquid on them fuel?

What is the filter type for a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire?

The fuel filter, or the air filter?
Are you looking for a part number? I'd check with my local parts store.

Pontiac Sunfire 95 air conditioner doesn't cool. what might i do to try to repair myself?

Chances are. your AC is not cycling anymore. The most common reason that this happens is due to a small leak in the system that allows the refrigerant to escape and when enough has leaked out, the low pressure switch is activated to shut the compressor down to make sure that the compressor does not burn itself out. When this happens, you will notice the compressor running for a short time and then shutting off. The system needs to be recharged and then leak tested, repaired, and recharged. Generally, a fitting or a hose has leaked and once it is repaired you AC will work fine again.

Honda Mans answer Low refrigerant is the most common cause of car A/C not working. Use an AC gauge set to determine the pressures. With the AC off, the pressure should be around 90-100 PSI depending on the ambient/outside temperature. With the AC on, the low side should be around 30 PSI and the high side around 250-300 PSI. If the system is low look for oily residue (possibly UV dye) on any of the AC components including: AC compressor, evaporator drain, AC hoses, condenser (in front of radiator), drier and switches in the drier or AC lines (remove electrical plugs and look for oil). There are many other things to check, but this should get you going in the right direction.

Where is the water pump located and how do you replace it on a 1997 Pontiac Sunfire GT?

If the motor is the 2.4L it will be on the back side of the motor, right below the exhaust manifold. It's a job to do. If its a 2.4 the water pump is in the rear of the motor. You must remove the exhaust manifold to access the water pump. Then you must remove the timing chain cover. When you remove the timing chain cover you must remove the timing chain tensioner. Its quite a big job.

When do you know when a clutch goes bad on a 1996 sunfire Pontiac?

With the car in gear, if you push on the accelerator and the car won't move, or moves very slowly, that could be a bad clutch. If the car will come up to speed eventually, but the engine revs up without much acceleration, it could be the clutch.

Take a look at this page about how the clutch works;

http://www.howstuffworks.com/clutch.htm

If the clutch plate is worn, there will be little or no friction and the clutch will not engage properly or at all.
