Why does my boat makes a clicking sound when trying to start it?

You may also have a faulty starter solenoid or starter Your battery is low, or you have a bad connection in your cables. -I would try to charge your battery first, but if that doesn't help then go ahead and have your starter looked at! :)

What course is longer The Grand National or The Oxford Cambridge boat race?

The Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race

The Boat Race course is marked by three classic bends, two in favour of the Middlesex station, on the north bank of the Thames, while the third favours the crew drawn on the opposite Surrey station. In spite of these bends the course is theoretically fair - the start and finish lines are exactly parallel, and in the unlikely event of the crews staying level throughout the race, they will both have covered the magic Boat Race distance of exactly 4 miles 374 yards.

Grand National The Grand National is a Grade 3 handicap chase currently restricted to six-year-old and above horses. It is run over a distance of 4 miles 4 furlongs (7,242 m) at Aintree Racecourse, Liverpool, usually on a Saturday in early April. There are thirty fences to be jumped in the race.

Where would you find the highest concentration of carbon monoxide on a boat?

Carbon Monoxide is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas which is slightly lighter than air. It is highly toxic to humans and animals in higher quantities. This being said, any enclosed space in a boat can trap CO. The American Boat and Yacht Counsel (ABYC) Recommend CO detector be mounted as follows

ABYC A-24.7.1

A carbon monoxide detection system shall be installed on all boats with an enclosed accommodation compartment(s) and,

24.7.1.1 a gasoline generator set, or

24.7.1.2 an inboard gasoline propulsion engine.

24.7.2 Detectors shall be located to monitor the atmosphere in the main cabin and each sleeping area

This being said, CO don't just come from your boat, a boat next to you with the generator running or engines, can envelope your boat in a "cloud" of CO.

There is also the "Station Wagon" effect while you are running, the exhaust can come back into your cabin. I have personally seen examples of both in my 25 years in the Marine field. Two people died in there sleep aboard their boat at the dock with the generator running ( Shore cord was bad so decided to run the generator ) Two kids were air lifted to the hospital after they were found unresponsive in the cabin of a flybridge boat on its way to the summer slip. Parents were up top running, kids inside playing games. Cabin door was open.

CO is very dangerous in boats and all boats should have CO detectors and they should be tested every time you go aboard. Dont just pull the wire to shut it off

Where can you get instructions on repairing a small crack in the bottom of your fiberglass boat?

== Answer 1== There are several websites that feature fix-it-yourself fiberglass boat repair. I know if I were to seek this information, I would start with my local Library first. Although answer 1 is not incorrect, I suggest that the manufacturers of the products to be used in the repair usually provide very good instructions both ON the product label, and often again on a printed insert or brochure, all of which are available at most marine supply house stores.j3h.

Do you have any recourse if a used car's engine blew 15 minutes after you bought it?

It depends. Was the car sold as is or with a warranty? If it was sold with a warranty, it should be repaired. If your state has a lemon law, you may be able to get a full refund.

How do you go about changing the bellows for the exhaust and drive shaft on a MerCruiser 5.7 Alpha One?

This is not an extreemly difficult thing to do, but you will need some special tools. You have to remove the drive which is quite heavy. You should change the drive oil, water pump impeller, and lubricate the gimbal bearing while you are there. Also do a pressure test to check for leaking seals. I would suggest investing in a shop manual.

As you have to remove the drive, I would suggest changing the shift cable and bellows and trim and limit senders, and the water hose also

A 50 to 1 oil to gasoline mix ratio equals how many ounces per gallon?

A 50 to 1 (50:1) fuel/oil mixture indicates 50 oz of fuel to 1 oz of 2-cycle oil. There are 128 oz to 1 gallon. Divide 128 by 50 to find how many ounces of 2-cycle oil to add to 1 gallon of fuel: 128 ÷ 50 = 2.56

You just raised your 60 hp motor to the top and it will not go back down?

Check your fuse first, then the trim switch.

Assuming the Up trim still works correctly, I would suspect a failure (in this order) of the down trim solenoid, the trim switch, or the trim motor. If your outboard has more than one trim switch (most newer ones have one at the helm and one on the outside of the motor cowling), try the other switch. If it works, suspect a bad switch. There are two identical solenoids that control the up/down trim motor. If the outboard only trims in one direction, switch the two solenoids and see if the outboard will now only trim in the opposite direction. If so, one of the solenoids is defective. Note: These tend to fail in pairs. If you have to replace one, I recommend replacing them both at the same time.

To test the trim motor, take your outboard to a certified marine mechanic.

Fire Extinguishers

How many b-1 fire extinguishers must a motorboat between 26 and 40 feet have aboard?

Motorboats between 26 and 40 feet must have two B-I extinguishers.B-I is either 2 pounds dry chem, 4 pounds CO2 or 6 quarts foam. NOTE: According to US Coast Guard regulations. 46 CFR 25.30.

NOTE: When a fixed fire extinguisher system is installed in the machinery space(s), it will replace one B-I type portable extinguisher.

Under Canadian CG regs, it would need one Class B-II extinguisher, even if it is not a motorboat, if it has liquid or gas-fueled heating or cooking aboard, for boats 8 to 12 meters (26.2 to 39.4 feet). A B-II is a 5-pound dry chemical with proper approval labels.

Canadian regulations have the same requirement for powerboats 8 to 12 meters, or for any boat that size with liquid or gas-fueled heating or cooking.

If it is not a powerboat, but it has liquid or gas-fueled heat or cooking, under Canadian regulations it would still need at least one Class B-II extinguisher, if it is over 8 meters (26.2 ft) and under 12 meters (39.4 ft). If it were exactly 26 ft, it would only need one class B-1 extinguisher.

What is an outboard motor cavitation plate?

A cavitation plate is a permanent horizontal plate on the vertical shaft of the outboard right above the propeller. It sits just at the water level when the boat is up on plane (ie: flush with the bottom of the boat, for a planing style hull).
It prevents 'cavitation' of the propeller ie: prevents air from the surface of the water being picked up by the action of the propeller. Cavitation drastically reduces a prop's effectiveness & efficiency; basically a cavitating prop is pushing some air rather that just water. Over-revving can also result.

What is a regatta?

A regatta is a boat race or series of boat races. This can include both powered and unpowered craft. The term regatta may describe either a rowing race or sailing race, however it is not usually used to describe a race between powerboats. The term is also used to describe the festivities that occur during the lead up to the races, often a large social event for the town in which the regatta takes place.

What percentage of boat owners also own dogs?

There are no stats for this question. However, dog owners are growing and the owners are from all walks of life. Some psychiatrists use a dog in their office to keep their patients calm (child/adult.) Children's hospitals will also use dogs as well as nursing homes. It's a proven fact that pets that owners love (be it dog, cat, bird, fish, etc.) will lower a person's blood pressure significantly. Stats say that dog owners that truly love their pets will live longer. Dogs can: Water-ski Scuba dive Parachute (used during WWII) Live on boats Live in construction camps (mine did) Companions for truck drivers Camping Fishing **If you live on a boat then go to your local ASPCA or SPCA (Canada) and get an adult dog. Many of these dogs need a good home, are fantastic animals, smart and willing to please. They would already know the ropes of life, and less likely to fall off the boat and drown. Puppies shouldn't be left to roam around a boat. Dogs are extremely loyal and they will do almost anything to please their owners. Most dogs are extremely protective of their owners and families and don't think little dogs are left out when it comes to being great watch dogs. My Bichon Frise' is 20 lbs., and muscular and she means business. If I give the word "OK" she will back off. A small dog can go up someones leg like a rusty can opener. I also own a cat that is a good "watch cat" and you don't mess with "Molly Brown!" I only have to say "attack" and she'd be on someone like ugly on an ape. She's smart and I take full advantage of that. She's loving, yet loyal and watches over our family. If another dog goes after one of my dogs, the cat goes so ballistic that dog never enters our property again and that goes for Pitt Bulls! LOL Marcy
