How do you unplug car speakers?

Please let me know what type vehicle this is and I can assist you with this.

Where is the oxygen sensor in a 1999 Saturn SL?

There is an oxygen sensor right on the exhaust manifold, directly behind the radiator and fan. Follow the spark plug wires down from the top of the motor. From where those wires plug into the coils, go left (assuming you're standing in front of the car ;P). The sensor is the cigar chaped white thing that screws into the exhaust manifold with one wire coming out of it. There may be a second sensor (somewhere "under" the car), some cars have them, not sure about the SL series. Yes, the 99 Saturn SL2 DOHC does have a 2nd O2 sensor, I believe it is located under the car, mounted to the exhaust, after the caddy.

How do you remove the shift knob on a 1994 Saturn sl2?

Its very simple actually. You pull very hard straight up. Watch your face though, i about knocked myself out when mine came off. There is also an easier way as well. I took a chisel and placed it right under the shift knob then got a hammer and went to town on the chisel. The shifter popped right off lol the easiest way is to sit in the drivers seat, put it in 2nd gear, grab with both hands, and pull, you cant hurt yourself or ur car that way

How do you set the clock on a Saturn's radio?

With the key in the on or acc position and radio off, the clock is displayed. Press and release the set button. The left hand "scan/seek" button adjusts the hours and the right hand button adjusts the minutes. Or you can do this by the "Swedish Method" - disconnect and reconnect your battery at noon or midnight.

For the Saturn L series

Setting the Time

Press and hold the RCL button and at the same time press the HR arrow (down) or the MIN arrow (up) on the AUTO/TONE button until the correct hour and minute appear on the display. The time can be set with the ignition on or off.

How much coolant to fill a 1997 Saturn sw1?

The amount of coolant it will take to fill your vehicle is dependent upon how low the coolant level is. You can add coolant to your coolant reservoir. The reservoir will have an indicator of when the coolant system is full.

Are the parts on a 1997 Saturn sl1 fit a 1998 Saturn sl1?

all parts of the car will work some things such as the second coolant temp sensor wont if you were going from a lets say 1993 to a 1997

because the newer models had no need for a second one

but that would only effect you if you were swapping the engine block itself

Where is the starter relay on a 97 Saturn sl1?

either the kick panel or on the starter itself. sometimes ther are 2 of them

Where is the relay switch located for wipers in a 1996 Saturn SL as the fuses are good?

the relay is part of the wiper motor assembly. if the fuses are good, and there is voltage at the motor, then you must replace the motor

What is Rattling noise when accelerating my sl2?

Can be a multitude of things. First see if its from inside the engine bay and occurs while in neutral reving the engine. From there check your headlight assembly.

Is a Saturn a sports car?

That depends on the model. Saturn made the SC, which was the "sports coupe", could be considered a sports car; and the Sky was definitely a sports car.

How do you replace the tensioner pulley on a 98 Saturn?

the location of the belt tensioner is in a tight spot. anyone who has replaced one and has normal size hands knows what I'm talking about. I'll try and make you a step by step procedure below. For visual reference, please view my BIO to gain access to my Saturn help site. In the serpentine belt folder is a picture of the tensioner and the two bolts that hold it in place, so you get an idea of where they are in relation to the tensioner unit.

1. Raise and support the vehicle with Jack stands on both sides

2. Remove the front passanger side tire (19mm lug nuts)

3. In the wheel well, remove the splash shielding to gain access to the motor.

4. Place a decent size peice of wood on your jack, and slide it under the oil pan, raise the jack so it firmly presses on the oil pan.

5. Under the hood, remove the motor mount on the left side of the motor, the mount is held on by Three 15mm nuts with studs on the motor itself, and Two 15mm nuts holding the mount to the body. remove the mount completely.

6. slowly lower the jack supporting the engine until the engine sits all the way down.

7. from inside the wheel well, place a 14mm wrench on the belt tensioner pully bolt. swing the tensioner to remove tension on the belt, remove the belt from the tensioner or main crank pully.

8. You should have access to the lower bolt on the tensioner. the bolt is 10mm in head size. i recommend using a 1/4" ratchet. Remove the bolt.

9. raise the jack as far as you can, making sure the vehicle stays on the jackstands!!! this should allow you to reach down and beable to remove the top bolt on the tensioner. the motor will come up on an angle.

10. once the bolt is out, the tensioner should just fall out of the motor. reinstall the tensioner with the top bolt first, lower the engine, reinstall lower bolt, reinstall belt, reinstall the upper motor mount, and raise the engine to level out with the upper mount.

The job sounds complicated if you are not mechanically inclined, but its accually simple. you will not break anything by moving the motor. the job should take a average person about 30-45 minuites to complete.

ALTERNATIVE and BETTER WAY in my opinion: I just replaced the tensioner on my 98 Saturn SL; removing the motor mounts is completely unnecessary! This job is easy for anybody who can remove a tire. The key to this job is having a 10mm (six point) socket head (3/8 fitting) that fits a breaker bar (3/8 fitting) TO FIT BETWEEN the 10mm top bolt of the tensioner and the wheel well where the motor mount is connected.

A regular socket wrench will take up too much space, but a breaker bar will allow you to EASILY connect to the bolt. A breaker as long as a standard socket wrench shgould give you plenty of swing/arc to rotate the bolt. (btw...I have big hands and can palm a basketball)

Follow steps 1 through three, then break the top bolt first. KEY to EASY REMOVAL: Once the bolt is loose, I switched to a mini socket (1/2" fitting) to rotate the bolt off. HOWEVER I made the mistake of rotating to far initially and the socket butted up against the wheel well, so I simply screwed the bolt in a bit, removed the socket, and rotated it off by fingers. Use a 10mm wrench if it isn't loose enough instead of a smaller socket. Again, the key to this job are the tools: basic ones. Forget about the motor mount removal.

Ignore the bolt on the pulley that connects the pulley to the tensioner. The bottom bolt is a cinch. I recommend the breaker. The tensioner falls right out.

Reverse the steps of course for replacement. You don't have to take the belt off when your tensioner fails - assuming the belt is OK.

Which 02 sensor is sensor one on a 99 Saturn sl2?

There is a possibility of up to 4 oxygen sensors on a typical internal combustion engine.

They are typically numbered according to their "bank", meaning which head they sense. Bank 1 is typically the same side as cylinder 1 on the engine.

Sensor 1 is typically the sensor that is at the junction of the manifold and headpipe. Sensor 2 is the sensor that is behind the catalytic converter. Note that sensor 2 seldom fails.

So...

If you are being told that sensor 1 has failed, and it's a 4 cylinder, inline engine, you should examine the oxygen sensor that is at the base of the exhaust manifold, which, by the way, is the most frequent sensor to fail. You should plan to replace THOSE oxygen sensors every 50,000 to 60,000 miles as part of routine maintenance.

Why is there white and blue smoke coming out of the tailpipe when pressing the gas paddle?

If it only occurs when you press the accelerator pedal and the engine is running well otherwise, the valve stem seals have probably failed. Replacing the stem seals involves removing the head, and while you're there, you may as well have the machine shop perform a full valve job, since failed stem seals are usually caused by failed valve guides.

On the other hand, if the engine tends to feel that it's "loading up", (too much fuel) it could be a condition called "wash down", in which the excess fuel picks up some of the oil that is on the cylinder walls and when the oil burns it turns blue. If the engine is running well, that's probably not your problem.

Have a blown 2000 dohc. Is it possible to convert a 1.9l Saturn sohc engine to dohc?

I just did a 96 SL2 DOHC block swap into a 2k SW2 DOHC. My sister loves those crappy Saturns. She blows up one every 9 months. :P Before you go to all that trouble you might want to consider getting a non-GM car... You know, one that won't fall apart as soon as you finish an overhaul on it.

-----------------------------

All Saturn S-Series blocks are compatible with all Saturn S-series heads. Just make sure that you change EVERYTHING related to the timing chain. (Timing cover, cam and crank sprockets, tensioner, and guides.) These all need to be from the engine that the head is from.

Also, use the intake manifold from the head... even if the sensors don't plug up. You might have to splice the plugs in that are compatible with your manifold.

The exhaust may need to be changed also, but if you can get the one that came with the head to fit properly then use it.

If you run into the problem I did of the exhaust pipe not being able to mount up to the right manifold and not hang on the bottom of the engine, you must be very careful and tap holes for the other style manifold. WARNING: You WILL run into water galleys when you do this! I recommend coating the threads of the bolts with JB Weld or some other kind of "cold weld" product before putting them in and tightening them fully. Allow this to dry for a day before adding water.

It's best to tape the manifold gasket to the head, running it through the 3 studs that line up on both manifold styles (on bottom - far corners and center) so that it doesn't shift. That will give you a good marker on where to tap the holes. AVOID tapping holes in front of the #1 cylinder else you may run through both an oil and a water galley. This will turn your motor into crap faster than my sister would. :P
