Is the orbit of the Earth around the Sun is circular and does it take 24 hours?

User Avatar
The orbit of Earth around the sun is mostly circular but a little bit oval like. The Earth takes 365.26 days to revolve around the sun.

How tilted is the axis of the earths rotation as compared to the plane of the earths orbit?

User Avatar
The Earth's rotational axis makes an angle of about 66.5 degrees with the plane of Earth's orbit. That is, it's not "straight up and down".

Why do bicycle tires lose more air in the winter than in summer?

User Avatar
actually bicycle tire or for that matter any kind of tire does lose air, the heat in the summer causes the air in the tires to expand. That's why is not a good idea to fill your tires to the max in the summer time.

What are the seasons in the southern hemisphere?

User Avatar
They are "opposite" of the northern hemisphere. When it is summer in the north, it is winter in the southern hemisphere. Therefore fall in the northern would be spring in the southern, winter in the N would be summer in the S, spring in the N would be fall in the south. Seasons in the Southern Hemisphere: Summer: December - March (northern winter) Fall: March - June (northern spring) Winter: June - September (northern summer) Spring: September - December (northern fall)

How many days Northeast Ohio average sunshine per year?

User Avatar
For Cleveland, OH... About 66 days of sunshine. The remaining 299 days consist of 97 partly cloudy and 202 cloudy days. Yes, 202 cloudy days! We've gone 2 weeks straight (usually in the winter) without seeing so much as a spec of sunshine. Percentage-wise that breaks down to: 18% Sunny days 27% Partly Cloudy days 55% Cloudy days Keep in mind too that during December, January and February we only have 9 sunny days on average throughout the entire 3 month span. (9 sunny days vs. 68 cloudy days). That's only 3 days per month folks. Not good. Only 4 other major US cities have less sunshine than Cleveland (Seattle, Portland, Buffalo and Pittsburgh). Here are 2 links that this information came from: www.weathertoday.net/weatherf...loudy_desc.php lwf.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/climate/.../ccd/cldy.html

What things would happen if the earth's axis was straight up and down with no tilt?

User Avatar
If the Earth's axis were not tilted, the following physical effects would occur: at a given latitude, the sun would rise and set at the same time every day; at a given latitude, the Sun would always elevate to the same zenith point each day at local noon time, at which time the Sun would always be due South for inhabitants of the Northern hemisphere, due North for the Southern hemisphere, and directly overhead for the equator, and the azimuth would always be (90-ABS(latitude)); and at a given latitude, the amount of daylight in a day (in hours) would always be (12 + (12 * Sin(ABS(latitude)))) These effects could give rise to the following changes: there would be no variation in the duration of daylight throughout the year; the further North you traveled in the Northern hemisphere, or the further South you traveled in the Southern hemisphere, the less solar radiation would be received. Closer to the poles, days would be shorter and temperatures generally colder. the North Pole and South Pole would be in a continuous, never-ending state of sunrise/sunset, and would see the Sun circle along the horizon. there would be no seasons throughout the year - at a given lattitude, the climate would remain steady throughout the year; the effects on agriculture, forestation, and on earth's flora in general would be significant without any cycles of "growing" seasons the familiar annual cycles that animals exhibit, such as migration, food storage, mating, and hibernation, might change or cease to exist.

Which date in year does the day and night equal?

User Avatar
When the day and night are equal it is called the equinox (means literately equal night). It happens twice a year. Once in the sping called the vernal equinox which occurs on the March, 20 or 21 each year. Once in the autumn or fall called the autumnal equinox which happens September, 21 - 22 each year.
