Secularism

Secularism is the political philosophy of separating the institutions of government from those of religion. There are two main ways that secularism has been practiced: the "Uninvolved Model" as seen in the United States and Australia and the "Exclusivist Model" as seen in France and Turkey. In the former, the government takes no opinions on matters of religion and leaves each individual completely free to express his religion in the public forum. In the latter, religious institutions are progressively weakened by the state with the intent of allowing a non-religious pubic sphere to emerge.

The best synonym for secular is?

The real meaning of secular is "worldly", not spiritual nor religious.

YET: the word Sect is about groups of people devoted to a religion or spiritual belief.

It would be better to avoid confusion, to learn just ONE definition first (secular, or worldly), read and study that a few times daily, 7 times daily for 7 days.

AND then after that, learn the word Sect being devotion or spiritual belief, study, read the real meaning a few times daily, 7 times daily for 7 days.

THEN you know the difference. Most people would, if they learn both of those words "too close together", around 4 years later, would not know for CERTAIN about this. I, also, had that problem, so the above is the answer, for myself as well. I got the meaning of those words from a Chambers Mini Dictionary, a good dictionary since it's not rude nor explicit.

What is the difference of secular priest and regular priest?

A secular priest is a priest who does not live according to a rule of a religious order, society, or congregation of priests. He is a priest who does not take the vows of chastity, poverty and obedience of the members of a religious order, but instead promises obedience to a diocesan bishop and to live a celibate life. Most parishes are administered by a secular priest and parish work is his main canonical mission. Today, a secular priest is often called a diocesan or archdiocesan priest. Secular priest is differentiated from regular priest (regular priest meaning a priest living according to a rule, regula in Latin, like the Franciscans, Dominicans, and Jesuits), better known today as religious order priest. Today, there is not much difference in the academic training of a secular priest and a regular priest because they often study in the same college and graduate theology schools/universities though they may differ in the mission, vision, and spiritual formations since a regular priest has additional training unique to the order, congregation, or society he belongs to. What was secular music derived from southern rhythm and blues?

I bet you forgot you ever asked this question. I'm a high school student, trying to graduate so I can be a U.S Marine, and live the rest of my happy, and honorable life. Unfortunately, I am stuck with tedious questions such as this, because apparently it's imperative I know. I hope you're enjoying your life. Remember when you were in my position? Good times huh? I suppose I'm coming about in your life, whenever you read this, to help you remember the past, and possibly base your future on what you've learned. Good luck to you.

What is the difference between sacred and secular music?

Sacred is referring more to the church. In music history, it deals with the period of time after Gregorian chant when music was written for the church services in the Proper and the Ordinary including parts such as: Kyrie, Conductus, Antiphon...etc. Stylistically, it is more plain and goes more with the syllables of the text in the chant. There is often a lot of short phrase in repeated metrical patterns. Secular music is the more mainstream "non-church" music. Stylistically, it includes longer drawn out phrases. It uses a lot of expression to provide a mood with the music.

What Medieval secular music exist in the popular music today?

Very little music from the Medieval era is present today. And even less so in the secular variety. The Medieval era was primarily religious, mostly stapled by Gregorian Chant, motets and organa. The little secular music came mostly from french musicians - northern wandering Trouveres and the southern Troubadours. Today, you would be VERY hard pressed to find any Medieval secular music in popular music today. Very little existed back then. And even fewer exist now.
