Serpentine Belts

With a 15mm socket wrench on the center nut of the tension pulley (second highest pulley) turn anti-clock wise (carefully it wont turn. its spring loaded) & the belt will loosen so u can slide it off. Draw a diagram of the belt sequence first of course so u can put it back on the same way. Once removed you will know how to put it back on, same as taking off, beware of spring loaded tension pulley!.. Good luck, it's really quite simple!.. Terry.

if the serpentine belt breaks or comes off etc. the car will over heat as the water pump wont work. also it will die eventually as the alternator wont be working, as well as no power stearing etc etc.

this requires a special tool to pull back the tensioner to take off the belt, buy this tool at the parts store dont rent it, have them explain how to use it, i promise youll thank me. or let me know you have it and ill help you.

It should have a diagram under the hood somewhere. Look somwhere around where the hood latch is, Should have a sticker somewhere under the hood.

Under the hood is a diagram. If not try Autozone they usually have manual you can look at.

open the hood and it will be on a sticker attached to the hood. If it is not there, then go to an auto parts store, and pick up a haynes or chiltons.

An idler pulley usually tensions a belt.. eg supercharger belt is kept taut by its respective idler pulley

There is usually a deck belt and a drive belt.

There are three belts. All three have a bolt to loosen or tighten to remove or tighten up the belts. The first belt is right on top of the bracket in the center of the engine after the belt drives. The second is located to the passenger side right over the bracket that holds the idler pully. The third is on the bottom of the engine, you have to remove the skid plate to get to it. It is located more on the drivers side of the car. Good luck....

Assuming it's a typical FWD V6, you need to first remove the serpentine rubber belt that drives the water pump, pwr steering, alternator, AC, etc.Tension on this belt is achieved by the spring loaded idler roller ( the part you want to replace).CAREFULLY insert a pry bar or heavy long screw driver behind the idler puller and press down hard ( need some muscle for this). ..this will relieve the tesion on the belt which will enable you to slide it off whichever pully is easiest. Once the belt is off, let the spring loaded pully relax and then remove the bolts holding the tensioner assmbly to the motor. good luck

If not, go to a used car lot and find a like car and trace the route there should be a diagram on the hood of your car or the front that tells you the route and the belt should have an auotmatic belt tightner == == You would do best to loop it under the crankshaft, go around the water pump to the right, then loop up around the tensioner, down around the a/c compressor, and back up over the idler. then crank the tensioner and put the belt over the alternator.

To remove Serpentine Belt Disconnect Negative battery lead. Remove air cleaner box assembly to access alternator. Drain about half litre of Radiator fluid: remove pressure cap with COLD engine and undo drain plug at base of tank. Remove top radiator hose. Unclip power steering fluid bottle (attached to top of radiator on RHS) and tie out of the way with wire or string. Loosen Alternator adjusting bolts to relax fan belt,undo fan housing bolts attaching it to the radiator,undo bolts holding fan to pulley then remove fan housing and fan from engine bay at the same time. replace them the same way(easier this way)be careful not to dammage radiator core. Now you will see both fan and Serpentine belts. Loosen belt tensioner for Serpentine belt (3inch wheel 2 bolts in front)then you can remove both fan and serpentine belts together with fan pulley.You might as well change both as if one is due the other won't be far behind. Assemble in reverse order,don't forget to re-tension both belts and top up the radiator fluid. No special tools required. Not too difficult,take your time. Enjoy.

I changed the belt when i changed the water pump. To easily get to the belt, we romoved the fan shroud (held in place by two bolts and two clips)and the fan itself (held in place with four bolts). In the lower left hand corner of the belt system, there is a tensioner. To loosen it, simply use a large adjustable crescent wrench and a long pipe for leverage. Push it AWAY from the driver side to loosen. (Its not spring loaded.) Good luck.

There should be a sticker with the diagram on the right strut tower. If it is no longer there the way to find the information (and a lot more related to your vehicle) would be to buy a Haynes manual for your model from an auto parts store or go to your local library and look in a Chilton manual. Most libraries will copy the page containing the pertinent info either free or for a nominal fee. Local libraries also have Chilton's and Haynes repair manuals. Look for the year and make of the car, and there will be a diagram for serpentine belt replacement. Make sure the diagram is for the engine you have.

Loosen 13mm nut that secures tension pulley. Then loosen 13mm nut/bolt just above tensioner assembly facing upwards, to remove tension from belt. Then finally remove the three 10mm bolts holding tensioner assembly to engine block. Install in reverse order.

No, the battery has nothing whatsoever to do with the belt other than the belt is driving the alternator which recharges the battery. The alternator is working hard to recharge a weak battery. If the belt is squealing then the belt is either worn out or it is loose. If it is loose it is because the tensioner is defective and not holding the proper tension.
