How do you loosen tensioner to get belt off of 1994 Chevy truck?

Basically, all belts loosen the same way, you have to take a wrench that fits the tensioner, and, you can find out where the tensioner is by looking online, or in the repair manual. When you find it, you take the wrench, you may need to use something to give you extra leverage, and, then hook it to the wrench in a way that will give you extra pull. I usually use another box end wrench, loop another box end wrench around the open end side, so that you can get the leverage and pull. It can be difficult, but, that is the best way to do it.

Serpentine Belt

Under the hood should be a diagram of the belt, this is your best reference without the service manual. All you have to determine is which direction to rotate the belt tensioner, and then put the belt back on as shown in the diagram.

If it is not you can run down to your nearest auto parts store and they can print it out for you or just buy the Hayes or chilton manual on your car. It only cost a few bucks and it well helps you out later down the line if something else brakes.

How do you replace the serpentine belt on a 1989 Oldsmobile 98 Regency?

If it is like a 1999 buick le sabre, which has a motor support though it, you have to remove two motor support bolts (on right side of car, attached to the frame) using a 15mm 1/2 inch drive socket. Then you place a 2 by 4 board on a jack and place it under the pan of the engine. Jack the engine up until there is enough space to slip the belt in place. Replace in reverse.

Alternate method:

Jack the right front wheel, remove the wheel and mud guard. It is a straight shot to the lower support. bolt. The motor support has a spacer that can be removed. This allows the insertion of the belt.

Ah, the old serp belt. This thing raises so many questions. It's right up there at the top of the questions asked list.

Lots of folks have searched for diagrams, but there is little published. It's worth a GOOGLE though.

Many of the Pontiacs have a diagram on the underside of the hood or on the metal surrounding the headlight area. If you can find one on your car, good. If not, and the

belt is still on the car, you can make a diagram of the belt routing. If the belt is gone and you find no diagram, you might be able to get help from a local GM dealership.

How do you replace the belt in a 1998 Rodeo?

There is an idler pulley that holds tension on the belt. Use a 14mm socket with a long breaker bar to push the pulley down and the tension drops from the belt and it will slide off. Instalation is the same. The idler is the second pulley down from the left side of the engine while facing it. If the bolt starts to turn stop, you are either on the wrong pulley or you need to move the bar clockwise to get a lower starting point.
