How do you put the alternator belt back on a 97 maxima after replacing alternator?

Once the alternator is bolted in and hanging on its curved barcket, you slip the belt over the pulleys and pull back on the alternator until it's just snug. Then you find the tensioner bolt/screw for the idler pulley at the end of the bracket. Tighten this bolt until the belt has about 1/8" give at the midway point between pulleys. I think all you need is a 14mm and a 12mm socket with a short extension to do all of it.

Rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise in order to relieve tension on the accessory drive belt. Remove the accessory drive belt from the pulleys and tensioner. Slowly release tension on the drive belt tensioner. Remove the breaker bar and socket from the drive belt tensioner bolt. Clean and inspect the drive belt surfaces of all the pulleys. Route the accessory drive belt around all the pulleys except the water pump pulley and tensioner. Install a breaker bar with hex-head socket to the drive belt tensioner bolt. Rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise in order to relieve tension on the drive belt tensioner. Install the accessory drive belt under the water pump pulley. From the factory there most likely would have been a label under the hood that shows the diagram. If you have an AutoZone close by, they are able to print most of them. Call and check if yours is one they can. Or, go to Autozone.com, look under specifications, then under belt routing. I found it there.

How do you tighten the belt on a 1992 Chevrolet Cavalier?

The belt is adjusted by the tensioner, which generally isn't adjustable unless the spring has started to fail or break. If the belt is slipping or making noise check it for cracks on the ribbed side. If you see any cracks, replace the belt. If the tensioner seems soft, it too can be replaced.

How to replace the lower accessory belt not the serpentine belt on a 2000 2500 6 liter silverado?

To replace the AC belt which is separate from the serpentine belt on a Chevy 2500 V8 6 liter do the following:

Turn the AC switch on the dash to the off setting. Remove the bottom cover under the engine. Remove the air intake pipe from the filter box to the top front of the engine intake. Loosen the serpentine belt by putting a wrench on the idle pulley bolt on the front top of the passenger side of the engine and pushing downward to take pressure off the belt. While doing this, you can slip the serpentine belt from under the idle pulley thereby creating the slack needed to remove the belt from the main engine crankshaft pulley. Carefully let the idle pulley back up into position as it's spring is very strong. You can get hurt if not careful.

Now from under the front of the engine, slip the serpentine belt off the engine crankshaft pulley. Before installing a new belt, be sure your AC compressor has not frozen up by turning the clutch by hand. If it has, it will just break a new belt instantly upon starting the engine. Put the new belt over the AC compressor pulley. Using a 3/8 driver, move the AC idle pulley enough to get the belt over the crankshaft pulley and under the idle pulley.

Now, put the serpentine belt in place as much as possible from the underside. Go back to the wrench on the idle pulley on top of the engine, apply enough pressure to allow putting the serpentine belt in place. Replace the air intake pipe. Make sure all tools are out of the engine area. Start the engine and turn on the AC. If everything is ok, turn off the engine and replace the bottom pan.

How do you change serpentine and supercharger belts on 2000 Grand Prix GTP?

Both the accessory belt and supercharger belt are serpentine. The supercharger belt comes off first. The tensioner is under the coils and easy access. Use a 15mm socket and ratchet to release tension on the belt and remove the belt from one of the pulleys. Slowly and carefully release the pressure on the tensioner. I had to remove the radiator reservoir to get access to the accessory tensioner way in the back. Just remove two nuts and lift up. Plug the overflow hole. Using the same socket, relieve pressure on the belt and remove the belt from the alternator or take your pick of pulleys. Carefully thread the new accessory belt on all but the alternator. Use a flash light to verify that the belt is properly aligned on all pulleys. Use the rachet to move the tensioner back to the limit and carefully thread the new belt over the last pulley (alternator?). Let the tension off and use the flash light again to verify alignment. Do not get your finger between the belt and pulley! The tensioner being accidently release at such a time will cause damage to the flesh. Repeat with the supercharger belt.

How do you replace the serpentine belt for a 1998 Grand Am?

For most cars and trucks there is a diagram showing the pattern the belt should take for each pulley. This is usually located under the hood on the radiator support. The vehicles I've had experience with have an idler pulley which supplies tension on the serpentine belt. This pulley is spring loaded, by using the correct size wrench, pull up on the pulley, relieving the tension on the belt and sliding the belt off or on.
