What was the land like in Sparta?

Quite the reverse! When the first Spartan settlers arrived in Laconia, it was so amazingly beautiful and abundant in all they would need the world basically lost contact with them becasue they were too busy enjoying their new land (which they stole from the natives by force and enslaved them, good old Spartans!)

Why did the Spartans have two kings?

Sparta ran on a system of democracy, therefore it had two kings who shared responsibilities. It is evident from Plutarch's; "Life of Lycurgus", that a lawgiver known by the name of Lycurgus derived the Spartan laws from the oracle at Delphi, which outlined how Sparta was to function. Within this Delphic Oracle it was stated that Sparta was to have two kings.

Careful there....Ancient Sparta had no such democracy! Sparta was a dinarchy, under the rule of two consecutive kings along with nine 'ephors' and a council. The common people had no say.

Clarification....

Sparta had two kings. The kings belonged to the Council of Elders (Gerousia) which had 5 Ephors along with nobles who were over 60 years of age. The Spartan government also consisted of an assembly made up of male citizens who were over the age of 30. The assembly itself had little power and was there primarily to support the Kings and Ephors. This was not a democratic government like Athens, but rather a government run by a small elite few.

Two kings, from two families, Agiad and Eurypontids, who descended from Herakles. One would go to war and one would remain in the city.

What role did military play in Sparta?

Sparta's military was famously brutal and single-minded, both in their own time and to our modern sensibilities. Spartan families would leave infant males in the wild for days at a time, and their survival meant military service. They kept sparse accommodations (living a "Spartan" lifestyle) and freely promoted a sexualized mentorship program in order to foster greater devotion to their comrades.

When could spartan males marry?

Spartan men were encouraged to marry at the age of 20. Although, if they were not married by the age of 30, it became compulsory. Spartan men were not allowed to live at their homes until they have finished the 10 years of military service, starting at the age of 20. In these ten years, if they were married, they lived away from their home and in their barracks with the syssita. When they turned 30 they went into the reserve, and could move home.

Is Sparta a Greek god?

If it is surrounded by water, at all sides, then it is.

No Sparta is not an island because it is connected to the mainland of Greece by a little piece of land.

Sparta is an island because of a channel that divides Sparta from the mainland of Greece, the channel is located between the cities of Corinth and Loutraki. Look for yourself on Google earth!

Would a girl be better off in Athens or Sparta?

A woman actually, would be better living in Sparta in my point of view. The women in Sparta could own property, houses, and even have an opinion. Although, the women in Sparta were brought up to be hard towards the value of life and actually trained to be fit and strong. That's only if you are a true Spartan, because there are three different 'levels'. A helot, which was a slave. You weren't a citizen, and were often killed if you posed a threat or if there was too many helots. Then the next level (the name escapes me) which you had no political say and were basically just a tad bit better then slaves. The true Spartans looked down upon both classes, as they felt they were of more importance. Women in Athens, however were not as lucky as the true Spartans. There were no levels in Athens, either. The women there, were not citizens; only the men. They had no say in politics or any other matter. They were expected to stay at home or only be seen out getting food for the family.

Did women in Sparta or Athens have more rights?

Women is Sparta had more rights than women in athens. For example: women in Sparta could inherite property while women in Athens could not. Women in Athens were also opressed... they had children and were expected to be a good house wife, being a weaver or potter. Women in Sparta were not oppresed because their husbands were never at home (either at war or in the barracks) Spartan women were supposed to have healthy babies each year (if they babies were unhealthy the babies were put in a pot and left abonded)

What was a captive worker enslaved by Sparta called?

The Spartans used Helots to till their land. These were, however, not slaves but serfs - that is they were bound to the land and delivered half their produce to Sparta. They were also used in war as light infantry, and the best of them freed from serfdom after good performance.

What did menelaus did during the Trojan war?

All of the suitors of Helen, which was essentially every king in Greece, took a vow that they would defend the honor of whomever was chosen as her husband, so as to prevent war from breaking out over the quest for her hand.

When she was spirited away by Paris, Menelaus forced them to fulfill their oaths. They laid siege to Troy for 10 years before finally defeating the city and razing it to the ground.

What did the education of Athenian and Spartan have in common?

An underlying foundation of war knowledge. Athenians focused on strategy while Spartans used the idea of strengthening the army with strategy applying later on as you moved up the ranks of their massive military.

No. But legend says that he tried 3 times and all 3 were crushing defeats.

What was an ideal citizen in Sparta?

In Sparta Males were considered citizens because males were usually the ones who had to go into the military to fight in wars at the age of 69 years old. The food there was not very delightful and there was not that much to eat, they smoked weed to heal wounds too. And usually if the boy was a weak baby when the king had examined the baby they would have to suck its tiny dick and move on to the next one in line. And all they wore was a scottish skrit as in those times that was the fashion.

What does the spartan uniform look like?

Depends on whether you mean historically accurate uniforms or glammed up costumes for films like "300"?

In reality the Spartans were renowned for their heavy infantry and uniform would be similar to the Roman legions (i.e. armour over cloth) - however whereas the Roman legions wore almost exclusively mass produced banded mail (except for the officer corp who could afford either by position/standing or wealth a solid breast plate).

The Spartans appear to have had a much higher ratio of solid breast plate. Although the idea that they all were armoured in a uniform fashion is unlikely to be true; Armour was expensive to make and would, along with weapons, be handed down from generation to generation so, just as today, different patterns and styles would be evident in any large force.

Also worn would be a cloth or leather tunic; grieves to protect the lower leg and a skirt/kilt probably made of toughened leather. not enough to stop a determined and well aimed thrust but good enough to deflect a glancing blow from both melee and projectile weapons (think of how tough boot leather is and you wont go to far wrong). this gave the spartan some protection of the upper leg whilst still enabling a large amount of freedom and manoeuvrability

The styling of the helm and shield appears to be two of the few things that the film "300" were relatively accurate about, oh and the red cloak. The Greeks believed Red to be a lucky colour (something that the Romans later picked up too).
