American collectors would call that U.S. Scott number 1470. It has the minimal catalog value of 20 cents, mint or used.

A standard letter from the US to the UK is 94 cents as of 12/10/08.

In general these are fairly common. Minimal value for this stamp indicates that the cost is in packaging and tracking and not the stamp itself. There are going to be specific issues with a bit more value, but you will have to identify the stamp and look it up in the catalog.

They sell some special stamps sought after by collectors. They actually have more on their official site than at any post office. Look on USPS site to see all.

In the US the official First Class rate was raised to 18 cents on March 22, 1981. That covered the first ounce of weight. Any additional ounces , or fractions thereof, were 17 cents.

First of all, it is not a 1732 stamp, as the first stamps weren't available for another 120 years. It is probably Scott Number 712, issued in 1931. A mint copy can be purchased for less than $1 and the used copy about 60 cents.

You need to fully identify the stamp you are interested in, some things to figure out:

What condition is the stamp in?

Is the stamp used or look like it just came from the post office?

Consult a stamp catalog online or at your local library.

The stamp or engraving of Michigan, or any other state, on a US cent was done outside of the mint by a private company. At least one company did this to cash in [pun intended] on the State Quarter program's popularity. It has no significant collector's value and, in fact, reduces any potential value to coin collecting purists. A couple decades ago a private company made up decorative boards with 50 pennies attached, each with a different state stamped on it. I've seen these novelty boards sell recently on eBay for about $20.00 However, a single penny with a state stamp has little value to it -- perhaps a dime in a dealer's miscellaneous bin.

Revenue stamps show that the appropriate taxes have been properly paid. They can be affixed to legal documents, such as deeds and registrations, as well as products such as alcohol and cigarettes to show the taxes have been paid.

In a properly addressed envelope, the stamp should appear in the upper right hand corner and the return address on the left upper corner. However, I often receive mail from overseas where the stamps are pretty much just slapped on anywhere, so I guess you could take a chance on it. I wouldn't try it myself though. Your letter may not get to its destination.

Yes, there are two cent stamps. They have been available almost since the first stamps were issued. For many decades the postage rate in the US was two cents. Today they are mostly used to add to other stamps to make up a new rate.

If your letter / parcel does not have adequate postage and it is caught, one of two things will happen. Either the PO will send the item back to you marked "insufficient postage" or they will send it and mark it "postage due" in which case the recipient will have to pay the difference.

I do not know what criteria is involved for the choice of the two. One thing I do know is that it can literally takes weeks to receive a package back with insufficient postage which can be a real inconvenience.

Otherwise, your stamp has negligible value ( less than 25 cent retail) , but please do not throw it away! Keep it in your stamp collection for your children or yourself when you have more time. If you have more than one, you may be able to trade it for stamps of similar value. .

Or give it to a collector friend. Collectors always appreciate the thought even it they do not need the stamp.

Scott 2138-2141 was issued to picturing 4 different duck decoys. These 22 cent stamps were issued in 1985. An individual stamp in mint condition will cost you $2 to purchase, and a used one for a quarter.

The cost of a First Class US postage stamp in 1903 was 2 cents. It was set at this rate in July of 1885. It stayed at that price until November 1917.

There are two John Muir stamps that have been issued. The 32 cent one is Scott number 3182j and has a catalog value of 75 cents mint and 65 cents used. The 5 cent on is Scott number 1245 and has a value of 20 cent used or mint.

That will depend on the specific stamp you have. Canada has issued many stamps, the condition, cancellations, what it is attached to, watermarks, perforations and even color variations can affect the value. You will have to consult a postage stamp catalog to find out.
