How many strawberries can I grow in a 4ft by 4ft bed?
I planted some strawberries. The instructions said, space every 3 feet. I ignored them, but I shouldn't have. Strawberry plants put off runners which become new plants. So on a 4 foot row, you could start with two plants. Within months, plants will fill in the row. I used Everbearing Strawberries. They have a spring and also a smaller fall harvest. You could put 3 rows in a 4 foot space - one in the middle and two on the edge. On a 4x4 bed, you may not need rows. You could reach in from any side. When picking strawberries, if the tip is white then it is not ready. It needs to ripen another day.
Can you eat the tiny strawberries in your lawn?
If you don't know exactly what they are, don't eat them. They could be Fragaria virginiana (edible) or Duchesnea indica (edible, but tasteless) or something else. Take a piece of the plant to a local nursery or your Extension Agent to see if they can ID it. THEN you can determine if it is edible.
