Why is it bad luck to do your laundry on Easter Sunday?

User Avatar
It is not 'bad luck' to do laundry on Easter Day or any other day in fact. The reason for this is simple: 'luck' as such, does not exist and is part of superstitious nonsense. Easter Day is commemorated as the day in which Jesus Christ rose from death after his crucifixion the Friday before. 'Luck' therefore and other superstition, has no place in matters Christian or elsewhere for that matter.

What is the best direction to hang evil eye in house?

User Avatar
Protection talismans in a home are most frequently placed to be seen from the entryway (door) of the house. This is supposed to prevent the `bad stuff`from entering. In the case of a house with more than one entry a talisman should be hung for each one.

What happens to the change people throw in wishing wells and fountains?

User Avatar
There are a few different places the money can end up. In the most noble cases, the change is donated to a charity. For example, the fountains in the Mall of America collect roughly $24,000 a year, and that money is donated to several different worthy causes. In other, more practical cases, the money goes toward the cleaning and maintenance of the fountain. Finally, the far too common alternative is for the change to go back into the pockets of citizens. Maeri Ferguson from the New York City Parks and Recreation Department’s press office told The Atlantic, “[Fountains] are cleaned regularly by Parks staff (every few weeks) but we consistently find that most of the coins have already been removed by entrepreneurial New Yorkers and there is not a significant amount left to be collected.”

What are ways to counteract the bad luck when a black cat crosses across you?

User Avatar
First of all, if a black cat runs across your path and then retraces his or her steps, it's actually good luck. But if a black cat starts to cross your path, but stops halfway and retraces, it's bad luck. And if a black cat runs in front of you, less than four feet away, you will not have bad luck. 1) If a black cat crosses your path, walk backward ten steps. 2) If a black cat crosses the road, turn around and walk backward until you get over the place the cat passed. 3) If a black cat crosses you path, spit on the ground and rub your foot through it and then walk backward five steps. 4) If a black cat crosses your path, go home and sit half an hour before returning to what you were doing.

Is there a superstition about a clock falling off the wall?

User Avatar
There is a superstition that says a clock will react adversely to an "un-churched" woman after child birth, they are said to fall from the wall when one visits.
Asked in Superstitions

What is the superstition of a picture falling off the wall for no reason?

User Avatar
Not sure of the reason for the superstition, but have experienced this happening. On the night of the death of a family member a large mirror fell off the wall and smashed. The mirror had been up for 6 years with no movement and the nail and bracket were firmly fixed. The bracket had not broken on the back of the mirror when checked. The mirror had fallen straight down although this was not physically possible without the bracket breaking, which it hadn't - next morning we learnt of the death.
