If your engine takes a much longer time for the thermostat heat guage to reach its required level of operatiing temperature then the thermostat may be stuck in the open position which means that it will need to be replaced.

dont know the name brand of T-Stat that would say EH.. but that probably means Electric heat..on all honeywell heat pump T-Stat's it is EM-Heating means Emergency Heating.. its just the heat strip comming on automaticly or manual depending how your T-Stat is wired..

A helical bimetallic strip is two strips of metal with differing boiling points that have been fused together, spiraling upwards around a central object. When heat is applied to the bimetallic strip, the different chemical properties in each metal strip will cause them to expand, forcing the helical strip to expand upwards.

You may use any two metals which have different thermal expansion properties. Steel and brass are commonly used because of cheapness.

There is not even a need for them to be metals - you could bond two glasses of different thermal properties, and these would bend as well.

FYI - For some reason Nissan decided to install them in the bottom hose on many models (such as mid 80's to mid 90's for the 240SX and Pathfinders. There are other models as well, but can't name them right off hand.

Depends on how much load it's seeing, and what the outside temperature is.

On heavy loads, somewhere warm, it might be just as well.

On partial load, somewhere cold it might run unevely and not burn as cleanly.

If you car engine is running hot and you are watching that temperature gauge climb higher and higher, especially while sitting in traffic, you know something is wrong. There is a normal process of elimination to follow to discover what the problem is, but first focus on the thermostat to see if it is the culprit before running out and buying a new one you may not even need.

*also engine that runs too cool is often cause by a broken thermostat as well

The question is not answerable. Assuming you're referring to an air conditioning condenser, it depends heavily on the make, model and year of the vehicle, condition and type of the AC system, and if you plan on replacing it yourself or paying a mechanic.

you can check your engine codes of the module. Is it seized up? Is your engine getting hot? The module will show pending codes even if your "check engine" light isn't on. Another way to check is a little more simple... 1. take your radiator cap off. 2. do this when the car is cool to avoid injury. 3. turn your car on and let it idle for 10 minutes. see if the water in the radiator starts moving. If it doesn't and your engine temp. gauge starts to rise above normal operating temperature, then you have a faulty thermo stat.

A thermostat is a temperature sensitive "door". If your car did not have one, the coolant would be circulating all the time and the engine would take a long time to warm up to optimum operation temperature. The Thermostat stays closed until the engine gets warm and then opens when it starts getting hot to allow the coolant to flow through the radiator and cool down.

If you follow the upper radiator hose, you will find the thermostat housing, the thermostat is inside this. Please ignore the idiot who replied to this question earlier, he obviously has no idea what a thermostat is.

The thermostat stays closed until the coolant inside the engine reaches what temperature the tstat is, at which point it opens and allows coolant to flow through the hoses and the radiator to cool it before returning to the engine to continue the cycle.
