Thermostats

Thermostats are instruments used for regulating one or more sources of cooling and heating to maintain a desired temperature. They are generally classified into three types: insertion types, immersion types and surface types.

Where is the thermostat located on your 2006 Chrysler 300 3.5 liter located?

it is under the housing where the lower radiator hose hooks to the engine.

it is under the housing where the lower radiator hose hooks to the engine.

How do you replace the thermostat located on a 1994 Mazda Navajo?

TO replace a thermostat, begin by draining the coolant completely from the engine. You can flush out the system with water at this point if you like. Next, locate your thermostat housing and remove the hose from it that goes to the radiator. Then remove the housing and take out the thermostat, it should just pop out. Clean the surfaces around where the thermostat goes and put the new one in. Replace the housing gasket and re-install it. Next put the radiator house back on the housing using a new clip. Now add coolant to the radiator until it is full, but be aware that you will need to add more as you start the engine and the system is filled. add more coolant until the level reaches the top of the radiator, and just barely starts to overflow into the resivior. Wait for all the bubbles to stop before putting the radiator cap back on before ti gets to warm. Check for leaks.

What is the purpose of a thermostat in an engine?

to keep engine warm faster n regulate heat to radiator

Why does your truck get hot after replacing the thermostat and full of coolant?

Try bleeding the system. Sometimes there's a valve or sometimes you just open the raditor cap or reservoir

Where is the thermostat located on a astra mk4?

hi on astra 1.6 8 valve 2001 mk 4 it is located left side of head top hose connects to it, not a quick job, remove camshaft belt and inner cover to get at it, hope this helps. jj

Why does your top radiator get soft while the engine is running?

If the question is: why does your top radiator hose get soft while the engine is running? If that's what u want to know, it's because the thermostat in the engine opens to flow the coolant thru the motor to keep the operating temperature from getting to hot. It's stores water in the radiator which cools the water and the thermostat blocks it until a predetermined temp.

Can driving with a broken thermostat on your car eventually make your water pump go bad?

Probably not in the context you had in mind. If the thermostat is constantly open, however, it can cause the water pump to run excessively or even continuously, and that'll cause the pump to wear out faster.

Can you run your jeep without a thermostat?

No you cant it would not work with out it.... sorry

How do you know your cars thermostat is not working properly?

usually, after you start your vehicle, if it doesn't take long for the temp. to rise past the normal position, and your car is full of water. It's probably the thermostat faulty. terry.stone21@yahoo.com.

Do car thermostats wear out?

Yes, they do. For various reasons a thermostat can fail to open completely - or even the least bit - always resulting in engine and automatic transmission overheating and sometimes causing permanent damage. This happened to me a couple of times so for decades I have replaced my thermostats every 75,000 miles. (I typically keep a car for 200,000 miles.) Sometimes thermostats will stick open resulting in altered performance and poor emission control. Thermostats are cheap, even if you buy from the dealer, and changing one isn't like brain surgery. Make it a mileage related maintenance item for your car.

Why does a thermostat turn a house's heating unit on and off?

The short answer is that it's what it was designed to do. It is so designed in order to keep an indoor area at a constant, comfortable temperature.

Inside of the thermostat is a coil. The coil expands and contracts with the temperature. When the coil expands to the point it's supposed to, it makes contact with an element detached from the coil, thus allowing an uninterrupted circuit to be made, which in allows power to get to the HVAC system.

Where is the thermostat located and how to change on a vz holden v6?

REMOVE THERMOSTAT FROM VZ V6

1. Disconnect the battery earth lead, then remove the engine covers and radiator top cover.

2. Drain the cooling system and then remove the itake manifld assembly. Make sure to plug the inlet ports to prevent entry of dirt etc.

3. Remove the coolant inlet pipe.

(a) Remove the radiator from the end of the inlet pipe, then remove the pipe to alternator bracket retaining bolt.

(b) Remove the bolt retaining the inlet pipe to the thermostat housing, then remove the inlet pipe from underneath the vehicle.

4. Disconnect two heater hoses.

5. Disconnect the engine harness and lay it out of the way.

(a) Disconnect engine coil packs for cylinders 2, 4 & 6.

(b) Disconnect coolant temperature sensor.

(c) Disconnect the pre-O2 sensor connectors.

(d) Remove the engine harness ground terminal bolt from the cylinder block, then release the retaining clips for the harness mounting bracket.

(e) Disconnect the engine to transmission harness connector located at the rear of the engine.

(f) Remove the two bolts securing the harness mounting bracket to the rear of the engine.

(g) Carefully lift harness assembly and place out of the way on the right side of the engine.

6. Remove the bolts securing the heater pipe to the right hand side of the cylinder head, then remove the heater pipe assembly.

7. Remove the bolts and grommets securing the thermostat housing then remove the assembly from the vehicle.

INSTALL THERMOSTAT INTO VZ V6

Note: always replace all gaskets and O-rings with new ones on assembly.

1. Clean the thermostat housing surgaces.

2. Install thermostat and housing using a new gasket then tighten retaining bolts to specifications.

THERMOSTAT HOUSING BOLTS..........10NM

3. Install the heater pipe assembly into position using new O-rings then tighten retaining bolts to specifications.

HEATER PIPE TO THERMOSTAT HOUSING..........10NM

HEATER PIPE TO CYLINDER HEAD..........35NM

4. Install the electrical harness.

(a) Carefully position the harness assembly into place on the engine.

(b) Instal the two bolts securing the harness mounting bracket to the rear of the engine.

11. Run engine and check for water leaks.

Can an air bubble cause your car to overheat and have no heat inside?

yes
Yes when an air bubble makes it to the water pump the water stops circulating and there for you will over heat and the heater core will no longer produce heat through the cars heater vents.

What size wrench removes the housing around the thermostat?

The one that fits correctly. Stupid questions get stupid answers

Is thermostat important in a car?

Yes, it controls the coolant flow around the engine block, without coolant the engine would overheat.

What are the symptoms if thermostat is stuck open?

Low Engine Temperature, Poor Fuel Mileage, Low Heater Temperature, possibly transmission shifting problems/and or no high gear in Automatics. Fix it!

What happens if the thermostat is removed of the engine?

The first thing you will notice is that it will take longer for the engine to warm up to normal operating temps, then you will see more of a swing in operating temperatures for different operations and ambient air temparatures. If it is very cold outside you may see the engine overcool when not working hard. Thus will be more of a nuisance than anything unless it's a diesel, then you may actually overcool the engine and cause excessive wear and tear on the engine and may cause fuel oil dilution ( diesel in your oil). Diesel's need a water temp above 140 degrees f when operating due to the high flashpoint (140f) of diesel compared to gasoline.

Why does water bubble up through your expansion tank coming off your radiator and the engine gets very hot?

That is happening because you have a leak somewhere in the system and it is not allowing it to build pressure. when there is no leaks it would not boil over because the pressure in the system would in a way compress the water from becoming a vapor. and that pressure can be getting lost threw a crack in the radiator, a hole in a hose, a loose hose, a bad radiator cap pressure seal, or a crack in the block.

Can you change a thermostat when the engine is hot?

NO! Because the coolant on a hot engine is VERY hot and under pressure, you risk SERIOUS injury if you open the cooling system on a hot engine. If you are going to be working on the cooling system, you should allow the engine to cool to ambient (or at least near ambient) temperature.
