The thermostat in a car regulates the coolant temperature inside the engine. When the engine is cold, the thermostat is closed, allowing the heat from the combustion chamber to heat the fluid (coolant) in the coolant galleys in the engine block. Once the engine reaches an optimal temperature, the thermostat opens, allowing coolant to flow through the radiator. The thermostat then controls the flow of coolant to hold the engine at its optimum operating temperature, irrespective of engine load and operating condtions.

Could be one of several things. From Least expensive to most expensive 1. Low coolant level 2.Bad Radiator cap. 3. bad water pump 4. Clogged heater core.5. Clogged radiator 6. Blown head gasket. If you check your oil when the engine is cold and see a milky substance in the oil you have a blown head gasket or cracked block. Otherwise start with the least expensive and troubleshoot your way up. Good luck.

Pressure test the cooling system, or a leak down test to determine if its a blown head gasket. Combustion gases can leak into the cooling system via a blown headgasket, causing air bubbles, not allowing the coolant to circulate and causing an overheating engine.

First you must locate the thermostat housing remove the three bolts and pull out the thermostat there will be a tiny o ring keep this for you will need to install this after you have placed the new thermostat in its proper place you will also need to replace the gasket that gets removed while taking the housing off to insert the new thermostat then you will need to torc the bolts back in place to avoid leakage from the housing you may also use a gasket sealent but not too much because it could drip into the thermostat if this occures it could clog the thermostat in this case you would need to start over in your mission

Find the large black hose coming from the top part of the radiator ana follow it to the engine. The point where it connects to the engine is a part that is held on with two bolts. The thermostat is directly under that part.

To remove a hose with a spring clamp, first, ensure the area is safe and that any fluid flow is stopped. Use a pair of pliers or a specialized hose clamp tool to compress the spring clamp, which will loosen its grip on the hose. While holding the clamp in the compressed position, gently slide the clamp along the hose or off the end of the hose. Once removed, you can pull the hose off its fitting.

One of the easiest thermostats on any model to replace. Simply follow the top hose back to the engine. You will see two half inch bolts, put a catch bag(a large zip lock works well) under the connection to catch any fluid when you loosen the bolts. Slide the hose and flange out of the way and pop the old thermostat out. Insert the new thermostat. The new thermostat come with a rubber seal already in place, so there is no need for a paper gasket or sealant. Tighten bolts to specs and refill coolant. Turn the engine on and check for leaks. No leaks? Then you are done. About 20-30 minutes.

Set thermostat to desired temperature; lets say, 70 degrees Fahrenheit, a few seconds will go by then the furnace should activate. Once the furnace heats the room to the set temperature the furnace should shut off.

In cold weather, you'll notice that the engine temperature gauge registers only slightly or not at all, particularly if you're driving at highway speeds. You'll also notice that the temperature of your passenger compartment heater isn't nearly as warm as usual.

Your car will show a temperature if you allow it to idle for several minutes. The heat flowing into the passenger compartment will be warm as usual.

If your thermostat is open, the engine will rarely warm to a level you're used to seeing on the temperature gauge.

If stuck open the car will run cold. If stuck closed the car will run hot.
