The housing should last the life of the engine unless it's badly rusted out or something just use new gaskets, a little silicone blue & you are good to go. Just remember spring side down on thermo.

Take the 4 bolts out of housing on the right front side of engine where you lower radiator hose connects to the block and the hose that runs down from the radiator tank .

Blowers should continue running for a brief period after gas is shut off to extract residual heat remaining in hot plenum from burn process. It increases the efficiency for a given amount of fuel use. The heat remaining in the plenum will go someplace. Better to blow it into your living environment that to waste it as exhaust.

One way to easily tell is to check the bottom radiator hose, if the hose is extremely hotter than the top hose, the thermostat is not opening fully or stuck in the closed position.

If you don't know where is it, you can follow the upper pipe out from Radiator to engine. so its that part connecting to water neck.

Remove water neck the screws.

you will find the thermostat embedded in the neck. just replace it with new one..

Make sure to Clean the housing, the cylinder head mating surface and the screws with a small brush. then put thread sealer on the edges.

Hi i have a 98 buick lesbabre i have been filling my over flow tank with anmtifreeze and when i check it the next day its emtpy again i have checked hoses and made sure that it wasent mixing with anyother fluids and the car hasent been overheating at all could it be the thermostat going bad or stuck open?

An engine needs a thermostat in order to maintain a stable operating temperature. Because of thermal expansion, the fit between various engine components changes with temperature. Therefore, an engine is designed such that this fit between components is optimal at normal operating temperature. Also, the ECU in modern, fuel injected engines requires the engine to be sufficiently warm before closed loop mode can commence. Until then, it runs rich, which would waste gas and increase emissions if run this way for extended periods. And finally, if the oil does not reach a sufficiently high temperature during operation, contaminants such as unburned gasoline will build up rather than evaporating away and being burned off in the engine. This will decrease the ability of the oil to lubricate. For all these reasons, it is NOT recommended that the thermostat of an engine be removed in order to prevent overheating. If an engine is overheating, the actual cause of the overheating should be found and addressed.

Yes, because as the water heats it expands. The water system will then spill over to the expansion tank. The expansion tank is only big enough to store expanded water at the thermostat temperature. When your thermostat doesn't open the water will over heat/ over expand. You will see brownish burnt water marks all over the expansion tank near the overflow hole. Best off just throw away your thermostat you don't really need it.

You drill the bolt out that is snapped off in the engine,with drill bit made to drill through metal.

Then use a thread maker,tap. Auto parts stores carry these. I no u can get at autozone.

The tap makes new threads.
