When a test indicates a leaking thermostat housing gasket and it has to be replaced would you need to drain the cooling system before you can remove the thermostat housing?

No just make sure that the engine is cool. take the radiator cap off MAKE SURE ENGINE IS COOL... then you can take the thermostat housing off and replace the gasket you might have to replace the thermostat as the gasket might be an O ring around the Thermostat and not bought separatly. after your done fill up with water.

How do you replace thermostat on 1998 golf?

Where does the thermostat goes on a 1999 Volvo tractor truck?

Need to know what engine you have. While Volvo engines were pretty much exclusive for the market outside of North America, in 1999, Volvo trucks could be had with a Volvo, Detroit Diesel, Cummins, or Caterpillar engine in the North American market.

What happens if you put an automotive thermostat in backwards?

It is very, very difficult to accidently do this. The heat sensor is so obvious that it naturally goes in correctly, without trying hard at all. However, to answer your question, since the heat sensor on the thermostat is not down and feeling the heat correctly, since the water is coming from the radiator in a cool state, and IF you could install the thermostat upside down (backwards), it will sense COOL water and tell your computer (assuming a new car) that the water needs to warm up. Wrong message, hot hot hotter hotter equals ruined engine (saw it in the desert in California), equals no good engine, equals $ $ $ $ $ $.

How do you access bottom hose rover75?

To access the bottom hose on a Rover 75, first ensure the engine is cool and disconnect the battery for safety. Then, lift the vehicle and remove any protective covers if necessary. Locate the bottom hose, which runs from the radiator to the engine, and carefully detach it by loosening the hose clamps using a screwdriver or a socket wrench. Be prepared for coolant spillage and have a container ready to catch any fluid.

What should your settings be on the thermostat for heaters?

If you're talking about an automotive thermostat and an automotive heater , then you should go with whatever temperature range thermostat the manufacturer originally specified . If you live in an unusually cold climate , you can go up a little on the thermostat heat range during the cold weather .

Why is my fiat multipla saying its overheating when the fan is running radiator is cold and ive had the thermostat changed?

The thermostat determines when the engine is hot and switches the fans on and off. You know it is working because the fans run.

You need to get the water pump replaced, because the coolant is not circulating (that is why the radiator stays cold even though the engine is overheating). Because this requires the cambelt ("timing belt") to be removed and then put back in the correct position afterwards, this is not a simple job and is likely to cost you a couple hundred quid.

Take the opportunity to check your service history for if the cambelt is due to be changed in the next 10,000 miles - if it is, you can save money in the next couple of years by getting it changed at the same time.

What happen if you dont use thermostat?

it is inside of an aluminum housing that join three hoses on the drivers side of the engine

Why is temp guage reading hot and the blower is blowing cold air and the rad is full?

My blower would blow cold air at idle & engine would start to overheat, I replaced my thermostat & problem solved.

Why does the lower water hose leak at the radiator end on a 2001 crv after I replaced the hose.?

clamp or fastener not tight enough!!! or hose not push up on neck of radiator or push to far on neck pass the marker which is a raised marker/stopper

Which way does a car thermostat go in?

How do you replace the thermostat on a 1992 Oldsmobile cutlass ciera?

Very tricky indeed ! Without the proper tools don't try it ! Remove the air filter housing. With the right tools you can now get to the 2 t-stat housing bolts. Remove the bolts and slide it out. Remove old t-stat and install new one(taking care to make sure it is positioned the correct way), re-install using gasket sealer !!! Note: easier said than done !

With no thermostat in my car it doesn't over heat but has no heat put a thermostat in it still has no heat but over heats why?

if it has a plastic impeller inside water pump it may be broke or faulty thermostat .check by boiling in water till temp its suppose to open

Replaced the thermostat and the furnace works but wont turn on?

Sounds like you might have a blown transformer, or a blown fuse on the transformer. Hope for the fuse. Its on the Furnace. Be sure your white wire is on the heat side of the thermostat, and the red wire is on the correct terminal also. The transformer can be checked with a voltmeter.

Why was power lost to a heat and air thermostat?

The power to the thermostat comes from the transformer in the furnace or air handler whichever you have. 1) the power to the furnace/AH is off, 2) the control fuse that protects the transformer is blown, 3) the transformer is defective, 4) the wire between the furnace and the thermostat got cut.

What does an automotive thermostat do?

A thermostat is a temperature sensitive device used in a vehicle's cooling system to control the flow of coolant between the engine block and radiator. A thermostat is important for several reasons. 1. It helps allow the engine to operate at optimal fuel efficiency. 2. It allows the engine to reach optimum operating temperature quickly. When the engine is cold, the thermostat stays closed, allowing the engine to reach operating temperature quickly. Once the engine approaches a predetermined operating temperature (typically 180-220 degrees F.), the thermostat begins to open and allows coolant flow from the radiator to the engine.

Mainly it serves as an emission control device by allowing internal engine temperature to remain within normal operating ranges.

How to replace thermostat on Nissan x-trail?

The thermostat on a Nissan X-Trail is replaced by draining the radiator, disconnecting the upper radiator hose, removing the thermostat housing, and pulling out the thermostat. A new thermostat can be dropped into place and a new gasket installed.

Where is and how to change thermostat in a Chrysler 300 2.7 v6?
