If you cannot afford a tubal reversal what are your options?

There are many cases of women having normal (uterine) pregnancies after having their tubes tied, while their tubes are STILL tied. An ectopic pregnancy, is a pregnancy within the fallopian tube-this can happen to a woman who does, or does not, have her tubes tied, as well as a woman who have never been pregnant before or who has had normal pregnancies in the past.

However, woman who have had a tubal ligation reversed are at higher risk for ectopic pregnancies as her fallopian tubes will have scarring and may not be as 'free-flowing' as before the tubal ligation. This risk is especially high immediately following the reversal (for up to 60 days, while healing), as the tubes themselves are swollen due to the recent procedure. However, it is not as high of a risk as some believe. Many women go on to have a normal pregnancy.

Many doctors recommend performing reliable birth control methods during this time to lessen the risk of ectopic pregnancy,as ectopic pregnancies can irreversibly damage the fallopian tube and if left undetected cause death.

Invitro fertilization is possible also, but it is more expensive. Tubal reversals can cost 5-7,000 and cycles are much pricier with the fertilization. There is also a charge for EACH cycle.

Can i reverse tublication to get pregaant again?

Pregnant After Tubes Burned?Unlikely.

A recent study (the Collaborative Review of Sterilization, or CREST, study) looked at 10,000 women who had undergone tubal ligation and found 143 failures (a failure rate of 1.4 percent). It can be higher when a tubal is done at the time of a C-section. The failure rate also tends to increase the longer it has been since one had a tubal ligation. The U.S. Collaborative Review of Sterilization (CREST) found the failure rate for tubal ligation (all occlusion methods) to be 1.85% after 10 years.

Here are other answers and opinions from Wiki s contributors:

  • Yes, anything is possible. I personally knew someone who concieved a healthy child after she was tied and burned.
  • Yes, it is possible to get pregnant after having your tubes burned. I had my tubes tied in 2000. I had a modified Pomeroy procedure done (with cauterization). I now have a healthy, happy 5-month-old baby boy five years after having my tubal ligation! If you think you might be pregnant after a tubal ligation, see your doctor immediately. Women who conceive after having a tubal ligation have a greater chance of an ecoptic pregnancy, which can be a life treatening condition.
  • Yes, you can get pregnant. My mother had her tubes tied and burned when I was born in 1983, I now have a happy, bubbly 5-year-old brother!
  • It is not common, but still is very possible. Even after a vasectomy some women (that do not cheat) will still become pregnant. This is how doctors get sued.

Do you still ovulate after a tubal ligation?

Tubal ligation is a form of birth control and there is only a slight risk of pregnancy after the procedure has been done. The objective of a tubal ligation is to block the fallopian tunes to prevent eggs from traveling from the ovaries down the fallopian tubes, becoming fertilized and implanting in the uterus

Yes. You still ovulate after a tubal ligation and have normal monthly periods with all the associated discomfort. A woman who has their tubes tied still ovualtes, but the egg can't be fertilized because the egg and sperm can't meet.

What is the expected recovery time for a tubal ligation?

I heard that it can take up to 8 weeks to fully recover from a tubal. I had a scheduled C section, and a tubal. I am now one month post, and I feel tender still in areas, and still feel kinda bloated. I just started to feel little "twinges" on my left side, in my ovarie area. They are sharp, and only come on at times.. Anyway, remember, I had a C section also, so the recovery time for just a tubal is probably sooner.

AnswerI had a tubal ligation laproscopically (not at the time of a pregnancy/birth)last week. It is exactly one week later, and I feel totally fine, and have resumed all my normal activities and sexual intercourse. The first day I was groggy from the anesthesia and a little sore around my belly button (where the incision was). The second day, I was sore around my neck area from the gas they used to bloat my diaphragm for the surgery. The third day, I was able to lift my son again, and my belly wasn't sore, but the second small incision in the pubic area was a bit tender. But by the fourth day, I felt great. After one week, I still have bruising around my belly button, but am back to normal otherwise! :) AnswerI am 43 and had my tubes tied the beginning of Feb. The recovery was pretty quick. I had a sore belly(like I did too many sit ups!) for a few days and gas pains. I had the surgery on Friday and went back to work on Tuesday. You just can't do any heavy lifting for a few weeks. I really did feel back to normal in about a week.

What are signs that you are pregnant?

A missed period, morning sickness (nausea), along with rising HCG levels (which is what will make for a positive pregnancy test).

Sometimes there are so many symptoms like morning sickness, very powerful scents, missed periods. Other times you wont even kno you're pregnant. What I recommend is that if you have a reason to believe you are go to a free clinic just to be certain. you don't want to wait too long.

No period, morning sickness, belly slowly growing.

. Feeling sick and in some cases, actually throwing up ('morning sickness'). Headaches. Dizziness. Missed period. Hard abdomen (although not always until about 4 months). Fainting. Breast tenderness/soreness/swelling. Increased need to pee. Swollen feet/ankles. Exhaustion/extreme tiredness. Cry/get upset easily. Mood swings. Food aversions/hating certain smells. Food cravingsNot all of these things have to be present

Your symptoms of pregnancy will usually appear anywhere from the first week of your expected period to 1-2 weeks after your first week of expected period. Your first signs of pregnancy most commonly include missed period, tender/swollen breasts, change in color of the breasts, fatigue, nausea/vomiting, increased sense of smell, and weight gain.

* Changes in breasts (color, swollen, tender)* missed period* fatigue* ill to stomach* back aches

The biggest sign is always a missed period, but you will also notice that you are tired most of the time, your breasts are swollen and tender, and your areolas may darken. You may experience nausea and/or morning sickness. Mornign sickness can happen any time of the day. You may experience backaches, or headaches. You'll have to go the bathroom more, and with what seems less notice. You could have food cravings.

Some signs of pregnancy are:

- Darkening of the areolas (pigment of skin around the nipple). However this can also occur one week before your period is due.

- Morning sickness (which can occur throughout the day).

- Missed period (This is known as the most common sign, but stress and other illnesses or health issues can cause this).

- Mood swings (From good to bad at the drop of a hat) - More emotional.

- Tender breasts for long periods of time.

- Secretion of substances from breasts and breasts are enlarged.

- widening of the pelvis, and hips begin to expand.

- Cramps.

- Indigestion.

- Increased urination.

- Increased food cravings (Loving the look of that chocolate cake in the fridge, day after day).

- Sense of smell is accelerated (Too bad if you dislike the smell of your neighbours dirty washing).

- Sometimes feel movements in the lower abdomen.

- Stomach bloating.

- Headaches.

Good luck. :)

There are a lot, but keep in mind that not everyone gets the same symptoms.Headaches, backaches, nausea and or vomitting (morning sickness),urinating a lot, sore breasts, sore nipples, swollen breasts, and fatiguethose are just some of the many that I can think of.
Tired, cravings, nausia, bloated, some women loose rapid weight at first and then gain it, pressure in lower stomach when lifting semi heavy things, missed period, mood swings. How long does a tubal reversal take?

It takes about 2-3 hours depending on your size and how your original tubal was done. Filshie clips and rings are easiest to reverse. It also depends on your size. If you have a normal BMI then it will be quicker and your incision will be smaller. On average the incision is about 3 1/2 inches, a bikini cut, and if you have already had a c section then they will use your old scar. If you have it done microsurgically, then you will have a faster recovery. It takes about 10 days to feel like your old self again. You will be able to walk around the next day and some women say they are out and about just hours after the surgery, although I didn 't find that to be my experience. All in all, it was much easier than I expected and cured a whole host of problems that I had been experiencing.

How bad is it to get a tubal reversed after 5 years?

Unfortunately I can not speak from experience but I have a friend (imagine that) that had a tubal done over 7 years ago and just about a month ago she got it reversed. She was not in the hospital for long and only stayed home from work for 2 weeks as she was advised to not do any heavy lifting and stay off her feet for a minimum of 7-10 days. She did say that she was in a bit of pain for the first 2 or 3 days but it was nothing a couple extra strength Tylenol couldn't handle. After that she was a little bit nauseous for the rest of the week but by the end of the 7 days she said she felt great and enjoyed her extra week off work. Good luck.

I have had a reversal 6 years after the tubal. I became pregnant within 7 months. Here is the link to the Doctor that preformed my surgery http://www.tubal-reversal.net/, Good Luck!!!

If you are HIV positive can you do tubal reversal?

You might have trouble getting someone to perform the operation. It's not life saving and it will put the operating staff at greater risk than for a patient that's not HIV positive. You should also consider the risk of transferring HIV to the baby, that is not something you'd want your baby to start out with.

Is it possible to get pregnant after a recent tubal?

I am 37 year old insulin dependit diabetic and I had my first child who just turned 14 month. At the time of birth the doctors cut my tubes so I thought all would be fine, but I just missed a period. I took a pregnancy test and it came out negative so I don't know what to think, I am worried.i had my tubes done laproscopically and they were burnt in April 2006, but have not seen period since baby born. she was born in December 2006. my husband say i need to chk cause he's having back pains like when i was pregnant. now u guys have me wondering.

i recently had a tubal ligation and i am currently wondering the same thing. the only facts i know have happened years after the procedure, for me it has been 11 months

I was wonding the same thing, i just had one done in late June and have missed a period. is that normal?

Yes. Anything is possible, but it is more likely to happen if you had your tubal right after child birth (atleast that is what the doctors have told me). I had my tubes tied right after my 3rd child was born. I found out I was pregnant 6 months later. It turned out that the doctor only clamped them, which I didn't even know was an option. My new doctor said that she knew of a woman that had her tubes cut, tied and burned twice and got pregnant both times. It is unlikely, but possible.

Yes!!!!You can become pregnant! I am 27 years old, and I had a tubal ligation done only a year and a half ago and guess what? I found out I am pregnant today. I have to go in for an ultra sound tomorrow to see if it is ectopic or not. I am still in shock. Everything happens for a reason.

I had my tubes clamped only 5 months ago and have found out today I am pregnant! I have to have an ultrasound to see if it is ectopic. I have 6 kids and am 41 so this is not a great situation for me. I am still in shock too.

I had my tubes tied and cut 4 years ago after asking the doctor to tie, cut and burn them...I took a pregnancy test yesterday it came back positive, I rushed to emerg I had an ultra sound and internal ultrasound they said it was too early to tell anything (also said I am 4 to 5 weeks pregnant) I am scared to death..Has anyone had this happen? and Is it possible for this to be a viable pregnancy?

What type of string is used in the tubal ligation?

Your tubes are not tied per se, rather they are either burned, which less surgeons do as a slight risk of damage of burning the bowels accidentilly may occur. Or, they use a clip, mine is titanium, to clip shut the tubes, my understanding is that over time the tubes will fuse themselves. this is a short version of what I was told prior to my operation.

Will Medicaid pay for tubal reversal in Texas?

No they will not cover a reversal, but will cover another ligation if you have a reversal done. Tricky there they want you to not be able to have more kids, so they dont end up paying for them.

I sincerely doubt it, contact them and ask, but cannot imagine that they would.

Is it normal to stop having your period six months after a tubal ligation?

No, if I were you, I'd go see a doctor as soon as possible. It isn't usually normal for a healty woman not to have a period. Well I personally had my tubes tied in June of 2005 and just had my first "REAL" period last week January 16, 2006, so yes it is possible and I was not pregnant and still am not pregnant. I had my tubes burned. if you were breast feeding then you have a good chance of not getting one for a while.

Is a tubal ligation more risky at age 25?

It is risky at any age. It is most recommended by doctors that the man get a vasectomy rather than the woman get a tubal ligation. The recovery time is less for men and it is less risky since there are fewer tubes and less chance of complications.
