Do nutritionists recommend vegetarian or vegan diets?
Yes. There is a growing body of scientific research demonstrating that cancer, obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease occur more frequently among meat eaters and that people with a plant-based diet experience lesser rates of disease and greater lifespans.
It's cheap, full of protein, healthy (unless you have allergies...), versatile, tasty (if prepared well), and can be processed to resemble meat.
What can vegetarians eat to stay healthy and lose weight?
It's so easy to be a vegetarian and stay healthy. Beans, lentils, tofu, peanut butter, nuts etc are all brilliant sources of protein. Most important...be adventurous. There are so many ways to cook exciting vegetarian meals. Get a book or cruise the net for ideas! I am a vegetarian also, and my problem is that I eat too many carbohydrates... The best thing to eat is a lot of vegetables and fruits. In addition, for protein try drinking soy protein shakes; this has really helped me cut down the fat in my body! Instead of counting carbs, eliminate simple and refined carbs from your diet. Exercise too! Eat protein and vegetables and fruit--most overweight people I know are sugar junkies! Eat complex carbs instead. just get out their and exercise!!! Cut out refined carbohydrates! Exercise! "Fast" weight loss is not the best way to go. Changing your long term eating habits is essential to not becoming a "yo-yo".
Oh, yeah--instead of depriving yourself, try to eat 6 to 7 servings of fruit and vegetables (preferably vegetables) every day. Just basically eat healthy things such as beans which are high in protein so they fill you up, which prevents you from snacking, I read that people who eat beans are usually 7lbs lighter than those who don't. Lentils are also good for vegetarians and they are healthy, make them into a soup or something. Things such as Quorn are healthy, not too much of it though, Just eat a balanced diet, have something like Weetabix or porridge for breakfast, beans on brown bread for lunch and maybe some fruit & then pasta or something along those lines for dinner. Try to drink 8 glasses of water a day too, as this is great for flushing any toxins out of the body and can help promote healthy skin & help you feel in a good mood and hydrated. Try to get your 5 a day. Lentils are vegetables, and so are beans. You need to make sure that you are eating al ot of vegetables; don't overdo it though; have a fair amount as vegetarians need this as they can lack in vitamins and minerals. I hope my advice helps you & good luck with your diet. Vegetables!! Eat protein, and minimize refined carbohydrates and saturated/hydrogenated/partially hydrogenated fats.
If you have the munchies, instead of that ice cream or donuts, eat vegetables, fruit (in moderation), and complex carbohydrates (whole grains). Upping your protein intake helps reduce those sugar cravings--(edamame, stir-fried tofu, nuts and seeds, yogurt, baked tofu, etc.) Minimize sugar, eat 6 or 7 fruits or vegetables a day, minimum. Eliminate sweetened drinks, up your protein count, start an exercise program. Minimize animal fat. Don't eat anything if you're not hungry.
Can vegetarians eat dairy produce and eggs?
People have different views of what it means to be a "good vegetarian." It might depend on your reason for practicing vegetarianism.
If you are vegetarian because you are against killing animals for your food, eggs and dairy products do not cause the death of the animals, so there is no problem.
If you are opposed to using any animal products whatsoever, for some other reason, then of course you would have to avoid eggs and milk products and many other things.
If you are following some spiritual program or health program that espouses vegetarianism, you would do best to consult your advisor or coach on what practices are required and why.
If you are a vegetarian, you may need to do some research. there is a recent study that if a person deprives themself from meat (aka being vegetarian) they can get brain deteioration and damage..... just saying.
Who needs protein complementation?
I know I need more protein when I feel mentally foggy and lazy. Also sometimes my legs will ache.
When they have a intense exercise regime, or are recovering from surgery (possibly).
The amount of protein someone should have depends on their weight, and also whether or not they're trying to lose weight. A 150 pound person should have 68 grams of protein. There are calculators and equations online that tell you how much your protein intake should be.
Why has there been an increase in vegetarianism?
It depends very much on the culture. In India, about 30% of the population is vegetarianand there are plenty of restaurants that state they are specifically vegetarian.
As of 2003[update] the Vegetarian Society estimated that there were between 3 and 4 million vegetarians in the UK; one of the highest percentages in the western world, and around 7 million people claim to eat no red meat.
However, in other European countries such as France and Spain, it is difficult to be vegetarian as there are not such strict labeling in place. Many meals called "vegetarian" in Spain will contain some fish.
Around 1 in 200 children in the US are vegetarian, and as of 2004 around 2.8% of the population are vegetarian.

Which vegan foods are high in iron?
Some foods that are high in iron include: Red meat, Egg yolks, Dark/leafy greens (spinach, collards), Dried fruit (prunes, raisins), Iron-enriched cereals and grains, Mollusks (oysters, clams, scallops), Turkey or chicken giblets, Beans, lentils, chick peas and soybeans, Liver, and Artichokes.
Why are vegetarians at risk of developing vitamin B 12 deficiency?
Everyone needs iron in their diets, vegetarians are just less likely to get it easily because they don't eat meat. All this means is that they have to look elsewhere to get all the iron they need from things like beans, and leafy green vegetables.
Yes. A potato, with skin, with a mass of 173 grams of iron, contains about 10% of the RDA. Removing the skin, which reduces the mass to 153 grams of iron, causes all but 3% of the RDA to be lost.
What food can you eat as a vegetarian?
NO! Vegetarians don't eat meat!!!! They live basically on an all- vegetable diet!!! What they are saying is that they don't eat meat (probably going against killing animals!!)!!!
(Although we do not live on an all-vegetable diet...those are Raw-Foodists. Vegetarians can eat bread, cheese (Unless they are vegan), and other things such as that. Just not any meat. Yes, fish and poultry count as meat.) even peperroni is meat so u can't even eat that!!

I just have to say the Vegetarian junk is stupid.
Vegetarians are the cause of global warming.
I eat cows because they fart and when they do, they release gasses that are harmful to the o-zone layer. Plants go through photosynthesis, creating clean oxygen for us to breathe. I eat the problem, vegetarians eat the solution.
Probably not the right place to put this opinion.. but uhm; your answer kind of
states that you're a Vegetarian... For being one of those, I strongly dislike you.
Thanks.(:

The vaishya diet is traditionally vegetarian. In addition to not eating meat, a vaishya is also supposed to avoid alcohol [I would assume in the current world this would also include drugs]. The vaishya diet is a Sattvic one. The Sattvic diet has also often been referred to as the yogic diet and is made up of a very complicated system that delineates foods and the interrelations of their unique properties. Ahimsa [not harming] is a crucial part of the diet and the practice. Due to this, almost all practitioners choose vegetarianism or veganism.
Yes. The only "Lact-" ingredient that is derived from milk is lactose.
Um.. No. That answer is just blatantly wrong.
Lactose (milk sugar) MUST be added to the bacterial fermentation broth for the microorganisms to produce lactase (the enzyme that breaks down lactose molecules). Lactase is made using milk. So NO, lactase is NOT vegan.
Are Cadbury chocolate products suitable for vegetarians?
Nestle products are still suitable for vegetarians. A lot of the products come from plant products and they may include tea, coffee or chocolate drinks.
What happens when a vegetarian starts to eat meat?
You end up with an upset stomach for a while until the system gets used to it again. you'll feel sick for some time.
They will become more likely to become sick and may even cause vomiting. Their stomachs have a hard time trying to digest the meat.
The consequences are often more mental than physical, though if you haven't eaten any meat in 10 years your body may struggle to digest it in large quantities
They are no longer a vegetarian.
Nothing will really "happen". For a person who has been a vagetarian for a long time, they may experience some stomach cramps as the body is not used to having to digest animal protein in such a long time.
What is the Meaning of non vegetarian?
Someone who does not eat any product by which an animal was killed for. Not only meat but also gelatin which is also in many types of sweets and of course jelly.
What are the negative things about being a vegetarian?

Good for saving lives. and getting it up the butt hole
Why are milk and eggs considered non vegetarian?
Vegetarians who drink milk are called Lacto-vegetarians (that's how they want to classify themselves).
Milk is not vegan, however. Vegans eat no animal products at all.
Milk is produced for calves of Cows/Buffalos. So, thinking rationally you could only classify it as non-veg. Secondly they are proteins from living body, synthesized by living body and contains ANIMAL FAT.
Let us look at the composition of milk:
About 98% of milk fat is a mixture of triacyl glycerides. There are also neutral lipids, fat-soluble vitamins and pigments (e.g. carotene, which gives butter its yellow colour), sterols and waxes. Fats supply the body with a concentrated source of energy: oxidation of fat in the body yields 9 calories/g. Milk fat acts as a solvent for the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K and also supplies essential fatty acids (linoleic, linolenic and arachidonic).
And most vegetarians say, animals are not harmed while harvesting milk so it could be called vegetarian. But its just a bad argument, if i suck 50 ml of blood from a goats body with a needle, not causing much pain or harm to the life of that goat and then drink it, will it make the blood vegetarian?
Its clearly non-vegetarian. And, anyone who call themselves vegetarian and drink milk could be called an hypocrite. We are just omnivorous social animals.
What is the origin of the word vegetarian?
The word vegetarian, coined by the founders of the British Vegetarian Society in 1842, comes from the Latin word vegetus, meaning "whole, sound, fresh, or lively," as in homo vegetus-a mentally and physically vigorous person. The original meaning of the word implies a balanced philosophical and moral sense of life, a lot more than just a diet of vegetables and fruits.
What are the disadvantages of being a lacto vegetarian?
Please take into account that if you ask for the disadvantages of being vegetarian, you're going to get a anti-vegetarian's opinion, so the view is biased. Just like if you asked for the advantages, you would get a pro-vegetarian opinion.
In the end, people are only going to support what they believe, so you're probably better off doing some research into the matter on a website that isn't as biased as this.
Opinion:Many believe it's better for your health. Studies show that there is a correlation between being a vegetarian diet and having a higher rate of cancers due to increased consumption of pesticides and herbicides, not to mention the increased rate of pathogens such as E-coli in raw vegetables. It is much easier to produce animal products on organic farms. Grass fed beef requires little in the way of antibiotics and produces healthier meat than conventional feed lots that use massive doses of growth hormones and antibiotics. We are able to feed vast numbers of people with our current means of production; if the world were to change over night to a vegetarian diet, many do not realized the huge increase in farm space that would be needed. On average it takes an area the size of a football field to produce the food needed by one human being for one year. Now, multiply that immediately by three for crop rotations, where one field lies fallow, one produces plant matter that puts leached nutrients back into the soil, and the third for production.
Fact:The most compelling argument by far is that made by the average hunter or farmer. Every years billions of dollars are lost and huge percentages of harvests are sacrificed to wildlife feeding. Deer populations alone are barely kept in check by hunters who harvest several thousand deer a year in the states where it is popular. If hunting were banned in these states and wildlife populations remained unchecked, the human populations would find themselves living in a very different place.
It depends. Many granola bars (pretty much all of them, actually) have glycerin in them. Check to make sure that the ingredients label says "Vegetable Glycerin" because if it doesn't then you don't know whether an animal was killed to make the granola bar or not.
What is a person who is partially vegetarian?
A person who is partially vegetarian is someone who still eats some meats. The most common form of this is a person who gives up meat most of the time, but will still eat it in occasion, or a person who totally gives up red meat but still eats white meat, pork, and fish. Next is a pescatarian, which is a person who does nit eat any meat except for fish. Some will be ova- or lacto- vegetarian, too. Certain religions ma prohibit the eating of certain metas, like beef or pork, but also the consumption of other meats, too,
